Never do this unless you are going to store it for a long time, don’t need any expert or miracle fix in a can to know that. The lubrication is mixed with the fuel, so that’s not fully correct either.

Just out of interest................4 stroke engines? Whats the opinions on running carbies dry on them? I dont do it on mine, but just curious.

  2. Not advice sorry  (all the other comments have been so useful and spot on) but just a comment on boat ramps and etiquette...or lack of it mostly which probabaly adds to your anxiety too.

Just can't believe these days the amount of inconsiderate morons at boat ramps that don't give a rats about anyone else apart from themselves and their desire to get into the water at any cost and in front of others just so they can tear up and down the waterways. Most of the time they wait till on the ramp and then hold everyone else up cos they haven't done an preparation before backing down the ramp......grrrr

Sorry for my vent, but its so frustrating ☹️

I haven’t watched it yet but I suspect it was a free flowing game with no boofheads or annoying commentary and plenty of hard tackles and skill-basically everything that the NRL get wrong the NRLW get right !

I don’t see why at least one ( preferably more )game in the NRLW series can’t be televised every week on free to air and pay tv.

It certainly was a free flowing great game. No boofheads either but (in my opinion) there was annoying commentary from 2 of the biggest boofhjeads on the sideline....Joey and Gus😒

  4. I've been a Raiders fan since their inception in 1982, both myself and my wife went to school with a number of players back then. Sure we've won a couple of flags...but omg can they be frustrating to follow . Particularly this and the last few years, but like all good supporters should, I stick with them through thick and thin. At least we get 2 points this week from the bye 🤣

  5. As others noted, there are better eating fish out there, but in my opinion there is absolutely nothing wrong with a freshly caught, bled and skinned salmon. Pop it on the bbq or chuck it in a curry, fishcake or even better, they come up a treat in a smoker.

Apart from that, they are an awesome fighting fish that provide great fun on light tackle.

Sorry that it came across that way, it would be hard for us to access the spots mentioned as we have a car that is not fit for the off road tracks. I will look into the places with easier access but still an element of remoteness to them.

@Isaac Ct no probs. A lot of the places that I mentioned in my original reply are relatively close to the city and are accessible by bitumen roads. Cotter and Paddys River near the Cotter Dam wall are only 20 minutes out of the city.

    Hey Isaac,

I've read Canberra was a good trout fishery about 40 years ago. Canberrans now drive out of the ACT to chase trout. I'm not saying Canberra is a bad place for a fisho ... excellent native fishing and a day trip is feasible for the South Coast or Snowy Mountains.

You would have more luck with trout in the Southern Highlands or Pejar, or better still go the whole hog and hit the Snowies. If you have your heart set on it there are still trout in the Brindies in the ACT. It helps if you know your way around and have a 4wd. Two of the most popular areas are the Cotter River above Condor Creek and Flea Creek. Both require a fair drive on fire trails (wet at the moment). As with anywhere you can drive right to the water they cop a bit of fishing pressure.

    GG

@Ganguddy Goodoo Canberra is certainly not as good a trout fishery as it used to be, but most places are unfortunately like that nowadays with increased fishing pressure and sadly Carp and Redfin in a lot of our waterways. I have lived in Canberra for around 60 years and fished everywhere around here for that period. As I advised @Isaac Ctin my reply trout are harder to locate, but there are still plenty of streams where you can find them still. You are correct re Cotter River and Flea Creek, but as you rightly pointed out, they do require a drive on tracks that are wet . And even though Isaac never commented back on my advice, I assumed that he didnt want to venture too far out of the area.

Hi raiders, my mum and I where thinking of heading down to Canberra to target some trout. Any help on spots and gear would help.

    Cheers, Isaac

@Isaac CtTrout are becoming increasingly difficult to find around here now. There are some nice little trout streams just out of Canberra towards Cotter Dam (you're not allowed to fish in the dam btw). Cotter River between the dam wall and junction of Murrumbidgee River does hold some trout (and Redfin unfortunately). Paddys River nearby holds a small population of small trout too. You may be lucky in the murrumbidgee but more likely to encounter Carp or a Murray Cod possibly. Gudgenby River which is a fair bit furher out along the Naas and Tidbinbilla Rd may hold some small trout still. The local lakes in Canberra (particularly LBG) used to have good populations of trout, but you'd be lucky now to score one...plenty of Carp, Murray Cod & Yellowbelly though.

Molonglo River could still hold some trout in various spots, but again plenty of Carp etc

Failing all that, maybe a trip up to Eucumbene Dam may be a better option. Its about 2 hours from Canberra.

    Hope this helps you somewhat.

    cheers

Probably that 3/8 spanner you lost rattling around in the engine bay.

@Fab1more than likely mate. Another funny story...used to race a Torana on the speedway when I was youger too. Actually misplaced a spanner for weeks and weeks until 1 day after coming back into the pits, discovered the spanner in the back of the Torana. Luckily it was still there as it could have been a dangerous projectile.

Bet you wish you still had the XU-1? I had a HT 350 Monaro, worth heaps now

@noelmI sure do. My mate had a HG 350 same time as I had my 1st XU-1 and as great a car the XU-1 was, the 350 Munro was just dynamite. Over a period in my youth I had 2 XU-1's, an XY GT and an RT Charger. Omg if I had kept any or all of them I'd be a wealthy (and happy ) man. Bet you think the same hey.

  11. Years ago, when I was a lot younger I took my Torana XU-1 to a Mechanic that i hadn't used before as there was a clunk that I just couldn't find. His answer to the problem was actually "turn up the radio, then you won't hear it". Needless to say I never went back to him again.

And yes, its a miracle how that ballpoint stayed together @Fab1

And no, I can't remember what the clunk turned out to be on my Torana

I was up at Agnes Water / 1770 last month and the price of fish was almost reasonable but I saw Snow Peas in the supermarket for $41 a kilo!!

That does seem a lot, but I'm thinking theres' a hell of a lot of snow peas in a kilo...they dont weigh very much!

I have recently moved away from Hyams Beach after living there for over 30 years. You are allowed to fish from the shore from the north end of Chinamans Beach at Hyams and south from there, down to the navy base, HMAS Creswell.

It has its good and bad days, but it can be worthwhile walking the beaches flicking a plastic, blade or vibe for flathead and bream, or you can cast a pilly out and relax with the family, while waiting for a salmon to cruise on by.

I won’t go into too much more detail as @Berrero has given you a good run down on a few local spots.

If there’s anything more you’d like to know, feel free to message me.

I should add, if you decide to have a fish in Moona Moona Creek, there is a sanctuary zone that starts 50m from the upstream side of the bridge. Its clearly marked with a yellow buoy and okay to fish from that, down to the entrance.

Thanks for the reply @Green Hornet. I noticed that you lived around the area and thought that you would know all the right stuff...which you obviosly do, so thanks heaps mate. Thanks for the heads up re Hyams beach area, will definitely give that a go at some point. We have been down that way a few times but not fishing...did notice last time we were there that Hyams gets extremely busy and parking seems to be an issue (probably more so for locals hey).

Also thanks for the note re the Moona Moona Creek sanctuary zone, shall watch out for that.

We're staying at the Holiday Park on Currambene Creek so will give that a go at some stage too. I'm aware there is a sanctuary zone further down towards the mouth too.

    Cheers

    Cheers and thanks again

While I'm not local to the area, I did a similar holiday in huss a few years ago and happy to shed some light.

I fished shore based around the actual bay a fair bit but didn't get much interest from anything. There weren't many gutters or anything per se, more just a gradual slope off and was fairly shallow still a fair bit out.

There are a few rocky outcrops scattered around the bay which looked better, I saw some people a few times throwing squid jigs and going for luderick but was a bit too washy for my liking at the time.

There is a REALLY nice inlet at the entrance of Moona Moona creek, which at high tide has large sand flats with plenty of fish -- saw plenty of 40+ whiting cruising around and even managed a few salmon off the flats. Also a nice bridge to fish off (burrill st) which is really deep and holds plenty of fish. Was crystal clear conditions last time I was there and you were able to see fish cruising around at 4-5mtrs deep. Also saw a huge school of larger luderick on the other side of the bridge, holding around the mangroves on the left looking upstream.

If you're up for a bit of a change I also ventured down into Jervis Bay territory and fished murrays beach boat ramp, it looked like an amazing squidding ground. Only managed a couple of them but fished all the way west down to hole in the wall with jigs and lures for a mixed bag. Huge kelp beds right on the shore and plenty of rocky outcrops.

You are correct about the exclusion zones, might be best to check with the locals before you try somewhere new, but I'm pretty sure the locations I listed are good to fish as I saw plenty others in the same spots.

You'll probably have most of what you need however there is a small tackle shop in Husskisson that I highly recommend, the old bloke there was really friendly & helpful.

Hope that can shed a bit of light for you, like yourself I only had a week so didn't really have time to knuckle down and fine tune any specific type of fishing, but I think once you get there and see the conditions you'll be pleasantly surprised and have a great time regardless.

Also not sure if you'd have the time / funds for a fishing charter but the middle of the bay is prime trophy flathead grounds, was one thing I wasn't able to do last time I was there... next time for sure!

    Enjoy your holiday mate

Thanks for all the great advice @Berrero, very useful info. I had noticed Moona Moona Creek and did think it was worth a try tho I can imagine in the warmer months people picknicking & swimming would probably far out weigh the number of fish hey. Will try around the shorelines and bays if time permits as we are doing a whale watching cruise and may indeed do a bay fishing charter too.

Thanks again for the info, much appreciated.

  15. Hi all, hoping some of the locals around Shoalhaven area or others in the know may assist in clarifying what I read in the regulations.

Going for a week to Jervis Bay, staying at Huskisson,  not taking my boat as doing a few tourist type things, but will take a few rods as will probably flick a plastic/lure somewhere from the shore. l have all the official apps on my phone and I'm assuming that areas will be marked...but the way I interpret the DPI zoning maps re sanctuary zones is that I can' t do shore based fishing from about Nelson Beach down past Sailors Beach (including Hyams Beach).

Am I interpreting this correctly? I definitely don't want to do the wrong thing, but I find these maps to be not overly user friendly...but maybe its just me.

Any advice will be glady received.

    Thanks

  16. The other thing I'd add, apologies if its been mentioned previously, is when fishing particularly off wharves and rocks is to have a long handled net cos as others mentioned they have a very soft mouth and can easily be lost at the last moment.

And as @Burgersaid, very important to have the float balanced just right with only the smallest amount just showing above the waterline.

Haven't done much blackfishing in recent years but it is such a great way to fish and rewarding. Have fun.
