  1. Hi all Just been spending odd hours or so down at the Georges near my place trying out different tide times and seeing what goes on. Thursday got an undersized Whiting on peeled prawns, he got released unharmed and a toadfish that didn't. Today got two very small 10 - 12 cm bream that were also free'd. Got sick of the wind and packed up and as I was leaving watched a couple of quite large (forearm length) silvery fish jumping. Possibly mullet? This was as the tide was coming in at about 5.45 pm, just near the boat ramp on Old Ferry Road, opposite Lugarno. I have to admit I am getting tired of not getting onto the bigger fish, any tips or ideas? Simon
  2. HI all Just wondered if someone could post a 'guide to landbased fishing' in Port hacking for the newbies among us, incluyding me. I live on the Georges and am having no luck at all, so thinking of a change. Cheers Simon
  3. G'day all I'm Simon, just found the site the other day and joined straight away. I'm 36 years old, married with two little ones and live in Illawong about 50 mts from the boat ramp near the old ferry. I haven't fished seriously in about 20 years and recently moved up from melbourne for work. I guess being near the river has sparked my interest again! Can't think of any PB's from the distant past, memory is a little hazy that far back. I am currently land based but I hope that as time goes on I can either talk the missus into a small boat or maybe get to know a few people and ride along sometime. Cheers Simon
  4. Thanks for that. I went out last night just as the tide changed and was casting soft plastics (3in power minnows) from the beach down by the mangroves and moving up past the boatramp but I don't think I was casting far enough what with the light weight of the jig heads I have. I did get one really good hit but the leader pulled off the swivel, guess my knot gave up the ghost. I am going out today and am considering using my larger rod and a different rig to try and cast further out. Any suggestions? I noticed those crabs but was determined to give the soft plastics a fair run, I may just have to grab a dew crabs and go from there. Luckily I am only 50 mts from the ramp so it's a nice short walk. Cheers Simon
  5. Thanks mate, glad to be here. Trust me I am going to have ashot this week and if I dredge anything up I'll be letting everyone know. It's been about 20 years since I fished properly. Simon
  6. HI everyone! Brand new member here, can't wait to read a bit more and possibly get to know a few locals. Only just moved up to Sydney for work and coincidentally have takne up fishing after a long break. I live in Illawong, about 50 feet from the river and would be grateful if anyone could drop me a few hints regarding good spots for a land based fisherman to have a decent outing on the river. Thanks in advance and hope to hear from you soon. Cheers Simon
