  1. WHERE??? Not the daiwa ones right? the yamashitas???

if so, if you can grab me a few and post im willing to throw a little extra your way for the effort! (of course it depends on the price of the jigs!)

  2. geez, im going to be a hypocrite and say it (because i have a fairly large jig collection myself) but these jigs are catching more humans than squid (so in a ay they are doing their job... for the manufacturer that is) :D

BTW, my best jig was lost to kelp, it was the aptly named "nemo" that's in 00ROTA's image. It was a yamashita jig in a clown fish pattern (orange with white stripes), i bought it because it was in the bargain bin thinking this thing will never catch anything but it always did the trick! unfortunately, it was one of those 'limited edition' jigs so its gone forever :(

  3. Fantastic Pic.

The frog looks surprisingly relaxed I thought!

    Cheers

    Jim

hahah, good one , though frogs always have that "dont worry, be happy" look. they cant exactly scream, bare teeth of crack a smile! :D

  4. Me and my brother took a friend bottom basing in 1 m swell. He is not a seasoned fisherman so he doesn't know any better. Anyways, his tackle is always heavy, there's no finesse, im talking 40 pound + gear at minimum.

So he drops it down and the setup snags in the rocks, meanwhile he thinks he is on and starts pumping like a mad man. Me and my brother are cracking up on the inside, all the time encouraging him to "get stuck into the fish or it will reef him".

The poor bloke is so intent on getting the fish up and is staring intently at the water. He thinks he is on to a fish because when the swell dropped, he would gain a meter and when it rose, the fish would go for a 1 meter run and he would get some line back.

So here is this guy, an old pen reel with the drag almost maxxed out, pumping the rod like his life depended on it for a good 10 minutes before we burst his bubble! Brings a tear to my eyes every time i remember the scenario!

  5. I was reading Nas' report of catching quid on chicken and it had me thing, a running post on the weirdest technique you have tried when fishing would be good!

So having said that, what is the weirdest technique you have tried? If its something you did when all else failed and you thought the fishing couldn't get any worse, or if its something a mate of a mate of a mate swore he caught a 10kg flattie doing (or on)! :chair:

The best one i have is:

Ii have an old fishing almanac (from the 70's) which says to use a carved up spud (to resemble a sausage) on a squid spike, i did try it and didn't get a thing! having said that, i didn't catch anything with the jig that night either so maybe they didn't feel like eating? Even if it was chips!

    :horse:

  6. Yowie,

i was trying my heart out last weekend throwing everything possible at those frigate mackerel. I tried pillie pieces, small vibes (which looked remarkably similar to the baitfish they are feeding on), small poppers, small blades for around an hour.. NOTHING!

  7. i started with plastic pliers (alvey ones) and became disheartened when i used to snap heads ( a waste of a worm which will die for no good reason). i moved on to practicing with my hands and its so much easier to do! the trick is to not try and outspeed the worm, you will never beat him in reflexes! your best off constantly but steadily closing in using thumb and forefinger just below his head as he is about to pull on your bait in the other hand.

The advantage of worming by hand is if you miss him he will slip through and live to repopulate the beach. Well thats my theory anyway...

  8. i know a guy who 10 years ago could consistently pull 55cm bream, his biggest being 65cm. the thing had fangs and the head had a bump forming on it like a snapper (and no, before you ask, it wasnt a snapper)! dont bother asking for the spot (he wont tell me) but he said the water depth he fished was ~1m.
