  1. Nice fish. So much information here to read, and I'm in the same position reading it all, trying to expand the knowledge.
  2. Hi all. I'm new to the forums and haven't posted much. Just wanted to share last weeks fishing trip. I got my own boat late last year and spent a few months fitting it out, and making adjustments to it after each trip. I finally got it all sorted and have spent most of this year out on the water. Put the boat in at 3am in Port Hacking and loaded up on live bait. Headed out the heads with a plan to hit the FAD and see if we could land some Dollies. Hit some nice current lines a few km's out of the heads and with a bit of swell and wind we were only managing 7 or 8 knots. So we thought we might throw out some lure and do a troll to the FAD hoping we could pick up bigger dollie on the way. I had just gotten some new teasers (after loosing my last lot) and had put them out behind the boat as well, just running a skirt on each side. About a kilometre from the FAD one of the rods gets hit, and line starts peeling off. We quickly clear the lines and teasers and I get stuck into the fight. First sight of the fish was his blue sail, and silver flank, before he peeled off for another run. My deckie was already sick and having a spew as I brought in the fish again for a better look. I instantly thought marlin until he was close to the boat and realised he didn't have a bill. I handed the rod over and gaffed him myself. He had hit the Scent Blazer lure. A small Slant Head in Red/Black squid colour. I'd been watching how well it had been trailing in the wash, but had missed the hookup. A rare catch but a very welcome fish to open my big fish account.
  3. Hello fishing buddy. I would have bet yesterdays catch you would be on here under that name.
  4. Hi FishRaiders After recently getting a boat and spending most of my summer out in the ocean, working on my tan line, and occasionally coming home with a full esky I've been spending more and more time on this website. I've fished on and off boats in the past, but never had my own, so I am finally pursuing my love of fishing to another level. Being an avid trout fisherman, and limited to the coastal rocks has been most of my trips out, and its good to now get into the blue water offshore. Firstly thanks to all that contribute to the forums, the wealth of knowledge, and the report write ups have made it much easier to pick up some tricks and techniques. Secondly, I can't keep ghosting the forums, so hope to contribute back to the group with this post.. So far with the boat, i have had good fun at the FADS with this years dollies, and getting a few other fish on the troll. The Beakies gave me the slip so far, but I'm keen to head out this weekend and give a go again. I've always known that it would be a question of time on the water so hopefully my time will come. I'm sydney based and mostly put into Botany or the Hacking, and have a 5 meter centre console. I know my boat and my limitations so far, and have been going out a bit further each trip in different conditions. I have a few questions that I would like to ask, that I cannot seem to find in past posts, or just to promote discussion 1. Are marlin leader shy? 2. When seeking pelagic, is trolling algae lines productive 3. When do the YFT show up, and how close in do they come (my number 1 bucket list item) 4. When trolling current lines, where should I be going (across, along, against) I'm out on Saturday to the FAD to see if there are any dollies about, but the currents look real nice for a troll.
