  1. So today, we got out on the water. Did some fishing along Silver Beach, then went over to the hot water outlet off the oil wharf but the squid and small reddies kept stealing the bait and I didn't have a squid jig on me. Went over to Moll Point but it was packed so did some drifts in Yarra Bay.

I was watching a guy in a kayak and as he came past I asked him how he was going, he answered that the water was still to cold so I headed over near Towra Point and the water was 21.6 so started drifting there. Picked up some flathead and then caught a huge Flatty. All on prawns I might add and mostly coming from drifting about 20 metres inside the yellow bouy marked "High Voltage" on the eastern side or Towra

Quickly took a pic and returned her to the water. My brag mat was somehow with my squid jigs so not sure on length but she filled my environet.

  2. I got back to the ramp today to a bit of mayhem. The SES guys had rolled their boat not far from the ramp at Bonna Point and were being helped out by maritime rescue who towed it to the ramp. That Noreaster played havoc. After waiting about an hour to use the ramp, I went up to get my car which was surrounded by police. When I got in, they said "well that isn't the vehicle then" and proceeded to another car. They later told me they were looking for the car and trailer belonging to the guys that hit the rocks. After seeing the boat on the news, I am pretty sure it launched just before me.

We were all just heading out for a days fishing.

  3. Lol :) i may be in for a kicking here. But as I classed it as a kitchen appliance. I wrapped mine up as a Christmas present for the wife ;) it's like a win win scenario right?

If you give that to your missus, you might find you wake to the sound of an electric pump and hard to breathe.

  4. I have a Bigland VS5500. I bought it off ebay. It uses rolls or bags but I prefer rolls simply because you are not limited by size then, the bag can be as long as you like. I make a lot of bacons and hams as a hobby and this unit was a cheapy and hasn't given me an ounce of trouble.

It is a rebadged Luvelo unit.

  5. Just a couple of points

"A licence be required to operate any powered

registered vessel, rather than any powered vessel

operated at 10 knots or more as is now the case.

Registration is required for vessels with an engine

of 4kW or more and 5.5m or more in length"

This basically means that even your deckie, driving the boat off the trailer, now needs a license under this scheme. Also, the people that hire out houseboats or cruisers, now need a license. Surely that is going to affect their businesses fairly substantially.

If your boat license is combined with your road license, if you lose your license at any time does this mean you lose both licenses. Also does this infer common laws across the states for both boating and road licensing?

  6. There is a real problem of mange in wild wombats. There are places on the web you can report the wombat and they will go out, catch it and treat it. The problem is not many people report them so it continues to spread through the wild population.

  7. The best solution is to invite her/them along. I am actually lucky, she has always enjoyed fishing, I make sure she is fully involved, if she makes the choice to not come along then that decision is hers and I have to find someone else to go with. It is usually her though that checks out the weather and tides and lets me know when it is a good time to go out.....hell she will even drive over to pick up the bait whilst I get the boat ready.....hang on....maybe she is trying to get rid of me!

I have learnt over the years, if you make it sound like you will be disappointed if she doesn't come along....extra bonus points and usually a promise of "maybe next time"

  8. Again well said howsy

Is Tabbigai where the large stink pipes are ?

    Cream,

No, the stink pipes entrance is at the end of Sir Joseph Banks Drive. Half way down that road at the end of the chain wire fence of the refinery there is a track off to the left, you can either walk along that fence line and you will hit Tabbigai or you can park at the whale watching area in the National Park and walk south along the cliff face to the same place. There used to be houses built into the cliff face on the right hand side of the ravine and you can see the ruins. At the bottom of the ravine is some large triangular blocks, I was always told that they were tank/landing barge traps

Interesting side note: If you stop at the end of Sir Joseph Banks Drive and walk up the hill in front of you, there is a WWII gun emplacement in amongst the dunes or what is left of it.
