  1. Alright you guys have sold me, I'll give lilli pilli baths a go, since I prefer launching at gray's point anyway for the outboard washing. Do you catch yakkas from there as well?
  2. Sorry Sydney Fisher, I got confused between the two.
  3. Yeh I've figured they've got limited space for fishing, but it's generally only ever me and the old man fishing. Are they still too tight for 2 people fishing? My sisters would probably enjoy just relaxing in the sun. Coast Runner and the Freedom Sport both look fantastic, but I can't see any in that price bracket. (At least not 4.5m+). There's a Reef Raider on there that has a nice engine sitting on it, but the hull is 1990 so not too sure if that's too risky. I'll have a better look at these boats. Are they glass? If so, how do you feel above driving them onto the sand? Thanks for that mate, I guess I really just have to figure out if my happiness (fishing) is more important, or the enjoyment of others is.
  4. Where abouts in the hacking? I know where to go for whiting and bream, but not much else in there.I've also never fished the harbour, what ramps have adequate parking? So would you catch them, hook them up and throw them back in? I am boat based, but not too comfortable going outside in my 4m Quinnie. Especially after seeing how quick the wind can pick up on sunday (and with no forecast).
  5. Went out on Sunday for a fish in Botany Bay. Collected yakkas (first time I've had success with this) and then went out near bare Island. Dropped one with a sinker and one without, but neither got touched. Moved around a bit but no luck. I've never caught a kingfish before, but I'm really keen. Is Botany Bay just a difficult place, most of the posts I see in reports is for Sydney Harbour. Or maybe I need to try different things?
  6. Looking to upgrade to a boat under 15k mostly for fishing. I'm seeing a lot of Bayliners and other boats which are marketed more towards cruising and water sports. What makes this style of boat less suitable for fishing? What things do you look for in a fishing boat that these lack?
  7. That's a good looking snapper mate, surely it wasn't caught inside?
  8. I caught a couple in the hacking about a month ago. They got me excited as they're the first thing that actually felt heavy on the rod. Alas, nothing of interest was caught in the same area
  9. Just wondering when you're loading up these reels with 80lb of braid, how heavy are the rods that it's sitting on?
  10. That's exactly the reason I'm looking at it. My sister's are both fairly young, so they'll likely just lounge at the front. 70Hp sounds like it should be a breeze with 2 people, though it is 2 stroke. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it, new or used and if used how old? (You can PM me if you don't wish to publicly divulge) That's good to hear Huey. I fairly cautious with engines because I know that a poorly looked after one can be a whole can of worms, but talking to the owner and seeing his logs has given me enough confidence to consider this. One day in the future I'll be able to get a brand new boat, but for the time being (I'm only 21 :/) I don't want to dip all my savings into this.
  11. Wow, that looks really flash! As much as I'd like to, I'll be taking my younger sisters and my mother on the boat, so I'll keep it as a seated area just so that they can relax while Dad and I fish out the back. Yeh the one I'm looking at has a 70Hp Johnson on it, so I imagine similar performance. I don't imagine that stability on it would be great, but surely it wouldn't be worse than a 390 Explorer right? Speaking of, I've seen heaps of Yam and Merc dealers around, but no Johnson dealers. How difficult is it to get these motors serviced/repaired in the case that anything goes wrong?
  12. Hi guys, after 6 months with a 390 quintrex Explorer, I'm ready to move up to something a little bigger. I've currently got a 475 allycraft bow rider in front of me, and it looks (to an amateur) pretty good. I quite like the style of Bowriders as it feels like they better use up the space. This one especially appeals to me because it's aluminium, however I can't really find any info about it online. Doss anybody have any information about this boat, or any comments on bow riders etc? This will mainly be a fishing boat for myself and dad, but will occasionally take the whole family up.
  13. Quality responses guys. I never really knew that what they sell at fish markets wasn't that fresh (mostly because I don't eat fish), so I was hoping that it was all good quality stuff. I ended up buying a few yakkas just because they were easy to transport, and they weren't all that fresh. I suppose I'll just need to learn how to catch Salmon. ... and yakkas :/
  14. Walked past my local fish store today and noticed they were selling salmon at $2 per kg. That's a hell of a lot cheaper than anything else I've ever fished with. I know people use tailor fillets as bait, just wondering how well salmon works? Also, they were selling yakkas for $4 per kg, how well do you think these would work compared to freshly caught?
  15. I'd find value in a thread like this. Several times I've caught a fish, not really known whether it's edible or not, so I give it the benefit of the doubt and throw it back in. There would be....less survivors if I knew they were edible.
  16. So I've got the week off, and thankfully the weather's played nice. Took the tinny out today and yesterday, with plans to go out tomorrow and Thursday if it doesn't get too windy. Hit wally's wharf late in the morning with the 4m tinny and went straight for jibbon. First cast, hooked on to a maroon coloured fish with white spots (sorry no photo) and back in it went. We accidentally caught a slimy, and having heard it's use as bait, I ganged it up and in it went with no hope. Just as we were about to pack up and leave, the reel takes off. Reel it in and there was this guy. Hopeful of something else lurking around we stayed a bit. Pulled in another one slightly bigger but no photo. Other than this though, nothing to take home over the two days than a 35cm bream yesterday. Hoping for some table fish soon though.
  17. South west rocks looks good, the weather there looks a good 5 degrees or so warmer than where I live, so I feel like going north is now a preference. This looks great for camping, I'll have to see if this is too close to home to actually count as a "trip" though
  18. Hey guys I've got a week off at the end of July and a mate of mine wants to go on a camping/fishing trip. I'll be dragging my tinny along, but only in a 2wd. Where would you fish if you had a week and the entire state?
  19. But are there anywhere near as many of them inside the lake, or do I need to go to the beaches on the other side?
  20. With the lures do you go for the ones that have a distinct fishy look, or just any piece of metal? I'll try and get out there if I decide to go land-based, but I'm going with friends who will prefer to take the boat out, so I'll try and adventure through the lake and look for baitfish.
  21. Awesome! I'll have to go and pick up a blade or something and catch my first salmon. Winds aren't looking great, but I figure the lake will have lots of places to hide from it.
  22. Sorry to revive a dead thread, but wonder if you had any luck? I'm heading up this weekend to a mate's place at the southern end of the lake, and am keen on getting them all a nice fresh feed. What sort of species can you find out there. Digging through some old posts (2012) people were saying that they were getting Salmon, are they out there now? Also, with regards to bait, are there yakkas floating around or would prawns and yabbies be a better bet?
  23. It doesn't freeze? I've got one sitting in the freezer atm, should I just use that as bait then?
  24. A second spool is probably where I'll end up going eventually, but the next big item I need to buy is a towbar so that I can actually take my boat out . I didn't realize that the thickness could vary that much at the same rating. I wouldn't dare using this for bream, but I would like to try it for Kingies and salmon eventually. So which of your braids is the thinner? Sent from my XT1033 using Tapatalk
  25. Well for the time being I don't have enough money for a nice second reel(and I don't want to settle for something that I'm not happy with) , so I might just respool with heavier braid. The rod is 4-8kg with a 3500 reel with 10kg max drag. Would 20lb braid be too much? Sent from my XT1033 using Tapatalk
