  1. Hi all Get onto www.polyboatowners.com, heaps of owners that are very helpful on this site Regards Pedro
  2. I have a cheap version, piece of dowel through my six leader spools, electrical tape to stop line coming off spools, sits neatly in storage bin, can't fault it yet. If I saw the Plano one, I would probably buy it though, I'm a sucker for that stuff too!! Pedro
  3. Hi guys thanks for the replies and ideas, I will probably wait until I get up there, Mark I have been to fishraider and seen that exact rod. It was beautiful and would more than do the job but I can't justify the cost at this stage. I'll pick up something to start with then I have a mate who builds rods as a hobby, we will make it a project Thanks Pedro
  4. Hi all Hoping someone up there can advise me, I was given a Shimano Sustain 4000 Spinning reel for Xmas (by myself) and wanted to match a rod with it, for my impending arrival in Townsville. I don't want to arrive undergunned you see. Any thoughts from you guys, planning to use it up there for reef fishing SP's etc, maybe in the creeks for MJ and Barra. I was thinking of a 4 - 7 kg 7 foot spinning rod using 20lb braid. Any thoughts? I will be driving past MO Tackle on the way up, so I would rather be prepared!! Pedro
  5. Hi all I bought an Eagle 642i combo for $777 delivered to door in 5 days on ebay, a business in the states called green iguana marine store, paid for it through paypal so it's insured. It was the second item I have purchased this way, absolutely no problem, and according to Oz websites I got it 1/2 price. Never pay full price. Pedro
  6. Hi all Squidgy classic bream comp was on too, 30+ boats all hard at it early, couple of bites, a big bust off and a small flathead was all I managed. Nice morning though, tested my new casting deck extension and seat that I did myself, and my new Sustain 2500. Things could be worse!
  7. That's the spirit! Good luck to you I say PGB
  8. Hi all Another secret to cooking occy (well this is what I do to baby occy from the seafood shop) is to clean it, boil it for 20 minutes in water, let it cool in the water for a couple of hours, then marinate it overnight in oil, garlic, soy, chilli maybe some lemon and white wine, then hot bbq grill for a few minutes till crispy on the edges. mmmmmmmmmmmm Pedro
  9. Hi all Get onto the polyboatowners.com website, look at mods forum, plenty of info and friendly people to help you out. Most of the leccy's I have seen on the 455 version have put an access hatch inside the anchor well, then bolt though and nuts on the inside, there is normally one or two that bolt through the gunwhale on the outside as well Regards Pedro
  10. Hi all Last week I saw a group of kayak fishers troll small HB's around my local area (Oyster Bay) which has a max depth of 1.8m at high (they fished early morning run in tide) and came up with good haul of flathead you could not jump over. Local tackle shop showed me the lures they used (SX40 rings a bell but that was not the only one), he told me just keep it bouncing over the bottom. I intend to give this a try myself, normally only use SP's myself for moderate success in same area. Good luck Pedro
  11. Hi I have read somewhere that Hummingbird does not transfer into metric, be careful of any that have inbuilt maps that you can't add to with Navionics card etc, I bought an Eagle unit from USA recently and it tells me I am off the east coast of australia near sydney but that's about it. I am planning to buy the Navionics card, until then I have trasnferred all data from handheld over to combo, using the blank gps screen but with all my previously loaded nav marks on it. not too bad, get onto a bloke called Bonzerimports.com.au for some more info and prices to Australia, I bought my Eagle combo from Ebay Usa, arrived in 5 days 1/2 price of Australian Unit. Pedro
  12. Hi, Boots outdoors/rays outdoors is having a vip sale on 9/8/07, everything 26.5% off including the watersnake motors, which puts the 54lb at under $600. I would be there that day buying one, but I need the longer shaft, which they don't make in the 54lb. All you would have to do is join the club before then (free!) Pedro
  13. Ok, some more, Pork Chop Hill, Hamburger Hill, Zulu, the Guns of Navarone and Force 10 from Navarone All time favorite Band of Brothers Pedro
  14. Hi Have a look at a site www.marinews.com, they have a series of animated knots showing a sliding snood, looks like what you are after I want to try it myself now! Pedro
  15. Hi all I have a couple of Snap Loc rod holders on my bow rails, can't say I have tested them with a kingfish, but they certainly have a good grip on the rod. They are plastic but sitll quite solid. Whitworths/Bias etc sell them for approx. $40 Pedro
