  1. Yeah that was me! It was pretty quiet saturday hey, your right about the frigates, they were there, just not very aggressive or hungry enough to take the halco's i was offering. Yesterday after lunch was better, even though the weather was horrid. I got a few legal bream and busted off twice on something much, much bigger. No sign off the surface action though, maybe a big treva?
  2. What are you targeting? Cheers
  3. GDay KingsRule. Yeah all the action was off the warf at sunset. How did you go today? I went to Clifton Gardens this morning and it was very, very quiet. I was on the warf at 5.30 and waited, and waited for the palagics to show... They just didnt turn up this moring, it was very quiet. Because there was no point spinning, I sent out some fresh squid strips and a live cuttie for nothing. Where were all the fish?
  4. In the image above, I have tried to highlight for you (in red) what a gutter looks like from above. Obviously, you cant see your beach from above, but if you can get somewhere high it will help you see tham. The gutter is the area of deep water. There are several more gutters up the beach too. The do always move, often in an hour, a gutter can form, move, change or dissappear so you need to keep an eye on things. The rougher the surf, the more sand moving, the more gutters change. get down to your beach in the middle of the day if you can and get up somewhere nice and high if possible, youll get an eye for them. Practice makes perfect. Hope this has helped a bit.
  5. I am having trouble... I fish off the shore and am always have two rods out, one for the big guys and one for the littlies. The little rod, i use to catch livies for the big one. The thing is, the little rod is always getting nailed by the big fish, and with only 2 lb line on it, I have trouble keeping the big fish out of trouble. Even with less desirable baits on the hook, the thin line always gets way more hits. Is there a fantastic line that will give me the same amount of hits on the heavy duty gear as I get on the 2 lb mono? I have experimented with light leaders on the heavy line, which did increase my hits, but then I wasnt able to apply enough pressure to the larger fish. Whats your favourite line?? BTW, I went for a spin at Balmoral yesterday, the macks, spotties and bonnies were around but not too hungry. The 10g halco was getting followed but no hits. The 5g halco no follows... It seemed the fish were feeding on very very small whitebait so I fed a 15mm of Maccas straw over a small bean sinker and shred the tail end the straw over a single hook-the result: 2 bonnies and 1 spotty. A slower retrevial speed with jigs also worked better than flat out. It looks like it might be firing tomorow morning. Give the straw a go when they wont take the metal. It might sound funny but it really does match the hatch. Cheers

    Sweep

I tried Clifton recently and all I could manage for livies were sweep. I could see makeral busing the surface and got some follows on the jig by kingfish but my sweep were just lefts swimming. Im wondering if sweep just make a terrible livie or it was just a tough time to get hits? They were under a bobby at varying lengths from 7 to 1ft at times.
  7. Im am wondering about how anyone who cliff fishes, fishes from large piers or rock platforms releases undersize fish without injury? Would anyone who fishes these areas be interested in a device that allows for the safe capture and release of both undersized and large unwanted fish if it were to become readily available? The device would be as simple to use as a cliff gaf, but would not harm the fish in any way and would also allow for the fish to be gently lowered back to the water. Any comments? or ?
  8. I am under the belief that Jews, especially the larger ones are more actively feeding at night 5 days either side of the full moon. What does everyone else find? I realise this is a common theory Imjust wondering about other peoples experiences.
  9. Im becoming intersted in LBG (frigtening due to the cost...) but before I jump in, are there any LBG options in Sydney? Sure there are kingies but is there regularly anything really amazing like the large tunas, marlin, cobia etc?
  10. I think the scientific name for this little guy is crustacia photoshopius playus. Looks good mate!
  11. Thanks for those suggestions. I have had a look at the Gladesville bridge but wasnt sure where to fish from? Is there access at the Eastern end or Western end? Does the next bridge along near Birkinhead point hold anything? I think ill try Birchgrove at the weekend. Ill let you know how it goes.
  12. Hi again, Thanks for the warm welcome. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. Im not after secret spots just any rough ideas about where I can go, get some livies and have a crack. As I said I have very little knowledge of the harbour or Eastern beaches. If someone can point me in the right direction, thanks so much. I tried Clifton gardens on the weekend but couldn't get a spot on the pier, so instead, I fished the rocks on the southern end, about 20m east of the baths net. I arrived at 5.30am with the intention of catching some squid and livebaiting for a kingy. After spinng for squid without success, i tried to get some yellowtail on bread. There was no action there either. While packing up my big rod because I couldnt get any bait, I left out a larger piece of bread under a small bubble foat. Just before retrieving the line to wind it in, bang, the float got nailed. After a resonable fight on 2lb gear, I landed a 43cm blackfish. I was pretty stoked with this. Have a good one. Cheers
  13. Hi everybody. I have been reading this forum for years but never posted. I have been fishing for about 15 years now. I grew up in Port Stephens and fished the estuaries as well as the beaches and rocks. I have recently moved to Sydney and im completely at loss as to where to fish. I live in the inner west and so would like to fish somewhere on the south side of the harbour or off the rocks (but not too heavy, ie no cliffs to abseail) on the eastern seaside. I dont have a boat. I am most keen on livebaiting but dont mind spinning or deadbaiting. I really want to lay into some jewies, kingies, salmon, tialor or big bream. Thanks heaps in advance for any help anybody can give me. Cheers.
