  1. Anyone heard anything about some 17 foot asian made longboats for sale in OZ?? I need a new hull for my setup and cant afford much so I'm looking for the cheapest good alternative (if thats possible ) to present to the minister of finance
  2. I'd be happier to go out with you if you had a 40 on it. Those old Quinnies aren't a bad tinnie but with all that extra weight on the arse and those low sides in a bit of a sea, I'd wonder about your safety. On top of all that you probably wont be able to use all the extra power anyway although you could have some fun trying inside on the smoothwater
  3. Did anyone miss the part about the 70 on a 4.3 being overpowered?? Or too heavy for the transom ?? You've got an old boat with a motor thats about twice as powerful as it needs not to mention half as heavy again as what it was designed for. Hate to see anyone go out and discover a cracking transom at the wrong time.

    Dodgy Servicing

Have you contacted the dealer in question yet? After all they should be your first port of call, rather than a public forum. Did you consider they may have a reason NOT to tension the cylinder heads - like a service bulletin telling them not to. ( if they had left the box empty on the service sheet you would be questioning that too) Dont forget the dealer probably sees 100-200 times the amount of these engines than you do and in a far more intimate way than just turning the key. Their experience with these engines has to be far in excess of yours, have you thought perhaps they DO know what the engine needs? In my 20 odd years of mechanical experience, retorqing usually creates more problems than it cures, especially where corrosion is possible or present.
