  1. What I use when fishing at the moment, weather apps, rain radar, wind conditions, navonics maps, tides, google maps, sea surface temps.

Would love inland fisheries, what's in them, access infomation and water level info.

For salt, tidal info up rivers(delayed times) don't know if there is such a thing about water clarity...

GPS info for photos, mose well link it as it's there already. Would be cool if when you take a fish pic it asks you to enter details of fish when you take it.

A Shazam style fish ID, take a pic and then it tells you what it is.

    TBC....

  2. They are very nice eating.well done. What bait got him?

    They are great eating!

Nice firm white flesh, great for steaming!

I caught them both on a 4" pogy in Fire tiger colour, my usual northern beaches snapper plastic.

  3. A few years back when I first got "Next" (the boat) I went out fishing Longy and scored a Goat fish as my first fish on the boat.

    (Current FR lure record)

A couple of weeks back on the last trip out on her I scored another goat as the last fish on the the boat!

    Freaky!

Should have measured it as it was bigger than the first one! doh

  4. Hehe :biggrin2:

My bestest year fishing...... So far  and a great way to end it.

Even got a few jews this morning out on the parra to 80 odd cm but nothing worthy of posting here....

Iceman them sails lit up were awesome, chasing the birds and reading their body language was something I learnt more about this trip. Cool watching the bait balls get smashed by hungry fish. The charter had great gear using Millerods game spins with Saltiga 6500 loaded with 40lb braid. On a double hook up at one stage I had over half a spool out, some 350+m with the sail going nuts across the surface, very cool sh1t! I wish I had my snapper Jew rod/Branzino tho.....

Steve the sails were in 18-20m of water and only a 20min run from the ramp, plenty of 4.5m tinnies out there getting into them on the nice days.

Stewy that Contender is the charter boat we had, the rest of the guys fishing are all contenders owners to, little owners club trip away. Felt like fishing at home but somewhere else. Weird but very cool. Still nothing done on a new boat front as yet..... My never ending story continues:mad3: but just gives me more time to save up for the next one!

  5. Had the pleasure of spending my birthday over in WA fishing Exmouth.

TArgets were GT's and sails but also caught goldens, mackerel, snappers, queenies, little trout and rankin cod, missed out on the blue marlin but kept entertained with sizable dollies out near the riggs in 500m of water.

Switch baiting for sails was a highlight with a new PB for me.

Good sized mackerel loved a sticky casted in the same areas.

We also had an opportunity to go see the turtles coming on the beaches doing the egg laying thing. Poor pic but didnt want to disturb them...

  6. I'll have a stab.

Q1 tieing braid to mono/fluro leader.

In the past I use to use a double uni knot but found over time the knot being smashed threw the guides all the time, the knot would suffer from fatigue and let go a couple of hundred casts in.....

I now use a FG knot, harder to tie but a shed load stronger and as there is no knot in the leader side, the knot is extreamly thin.

Even though I use a FG I don't put the knot in the guides when I cast. I fish a 1.3m leader and can cast this off an 8ft rod no problems.

I have no fear of pushing my gear to the limits any time as I know there wont be knot fatigue.

I use a FG which is a single strand to leader, no need for doubles.

A good Albright will hold but dont cast it through the guides and it will last.

A loop knot is the go with all lure connections.

I fish 20-30lb braid, 16-30lb leaders. Lighter the better for bites, I usually change through the day depending on depth and fish size. 20lb is the usual starting point.

North I tend to go a little heavier and down south and it's more gravel beds I'll even go as low as 10lb when things are tough!

  7. Jews also hunt on the surface guys....

I have seen gars being chased by jews in 8m of water in quiet bays after big rains back of Lane Cove, have even landed one on a small plastic during a bream comp casting at the tail walking gars. Appox 10kgs

Have heard them slurping bait off the top like barra in water deeper than 10m on steep rocky banks, then there are the bridge ones at night under lights....

Gars hands down on the edge of sandflat/weed beds.

  8. Just ribbing him Greg.. he has fished with us alot so he knows how much we burn!

    Cheers Damo

Damo I could have gone that way(your fuel consumption) but that would be like a kick in the nuts, seeing I have never met you I thought I had better not LOL

Big days in mine are 350lt but that'll include 2hrs at 35-40kns!

  9. Hi Marty,

Good to see you christen the boat with a nice dolly well done. You may have to sell the pub and buy a petrol station at 270 litres a day.

    Cheers Damo

That's only $28/hr, not to bad I think for a big day wide!

    Great work on the dolly.

  10. G'day guys

Coming to that time of year when the big stuff gets pulled out ready for some wide runs.

This year I'm intending to run some larger lures. Before we use to run just 15;s and 24's so our spread only went to 12" but this season I will run 2x 80's so we can tow some larger lures.

Regarding lure positions, before I use to run the 24's off the riggers and run 1x joe yee 12" and a Marlin Magic 12 off the other. Slide the 15's close in with 10" lures. The spred has work well in the past and have had days where every lure in the spread has been eaten by a marlin.

Was on the "can" the other day reading tips on lure spreads, there they say to run the big ones in close and smaller further back and on the riggers.....Oppisite to what I do.

So what's your call on this?

Big in close or out back?

    Greg

  11. I have Moi moi yellow on my 15's and orange on the 24's but this season I'm running 2x 37's so I can run some big lures, I'm running Varivas special trolling line 80lb in green. I run different colours to help with line control, it makes it easy to see if they cross or tangle.
