  1. For the yakkas the bait rigs work a treat but tangles are a mess. There is a special rod you can buy called a sabiki rod just for that purpose. It's essentially a hollow tube that you just retrieve the entire rig into the rod to avoid tangles and reuse. There are vids on youtube on this and also DIY option with a pvc pipe. 2. Yep I have the itch bad. And the weather last few weekends have been atrocious. Not going to lie I've been tempted to risk the southerly swells on the rocks but then I read the rock fishing safety thread and decide it's not worth it. Hang in there buddy!
  3. Just a thought. If you're spinning lures on the surface you may not even need a leader. 30lb braid is fairly tough. On a fast retrieve you'll mostly get strikes directly on the tail hook of your lures so no need to worry about tailor cutting your line. Just a simple non slip knot to lure Edit: sorry just re read your post and saw your lighter line choice. Even on light braid you shouldn't have to worry about sharp teeth on a fast retrieve.
  4. Hi guys, First post on Fishraider, love all the fishing reports, gets me super pumped to get out and wet a line. Just thought I'd share my Saturday. Wife was working, perfect weather to get outside. Checked the tides and thought I'd head out for a lazy session off the pier. Got on location at 3, started soaking some servo prawns, not a lot of action. A couple next me me were working a few squid jigs off the left with some success I think they left with about 4 decent sized squid. Tide changed at 4pm and started running out, started to see some surface activity close to the pier so I switched out to a 20g Twisty and just in time. The water in front started boiling up big time! A massive school of tailor just popped in for a feed. Each cast out was basically smashed as soon as it hit the water. Was hoping for a decent sized fish but all were undersized, it was a race to carefully dehook them and get both fish and the lure back in water. Anyway this went on for about half and hour and they were gone. Normally hate coming across tailor but using a HB meant my line stayed intact. Nothing to take a photo of but probably the most fun I've had in a while on the light setup, 6lb mono and 3kg rod. Switched back to bait, threw it in for a soak and sat back down on the edge of the pier with my feet in the water and watched the sun set.
