  1. It is a long stretch of beach, but i'd get in early as the prime spots at the gutters can fill up fairly quickly especially given its easter and the weekend. If it's too crowded you can always move to another beach, plenty in the area. Given the swell over the last couple of weeks there should be a few decent gutters to target though. Best of luck -Chris
  2. Fresh squid and mullet are top bait. Live is usually best, stripped or fillet is also good. Long leaders of above 75cm as i find they'll be just off the bottom which lets the bait flutter or swim in the strike zone. Fish the tide changes as they like the slack water and find structure which they can ambush prey out of the current as they're actually quite lazy. Plenty of hours are needed to start figuring out which spots work for what tides and when. Check out the jewfish thread in the fishing chat section, plenty of good information there.
  3. Couldn't fit this file in the original report I also showed him something that i've been doing since i was a little kid, feeding the local eagles. I get their attention by giving them a whistle, hold a mullet in my hand and throw it in the water once i have its attention. They'll usually go and perch up in a tree, this one stayed with us at that spot for an hour and a half till we moved. Got a nice healthy feed of about 6 mullet . video-1491880300.mp4
  4. Hi guys, So i've been targeting jews in my local system in Berowra over recent times. Been hitting the tide changes and have managed a few small models which are great fun on the gear i'm using. Slowly been figuring out the when where and why. I went out a few weeks ago with a mate and managed to get him onto his first ever jewie a few minutes out from the dead low tide. Went 55cm and happily released back into the drink. We had no more luck in terms of jew that day but had some time to hit the run in tide to bring a feed back home. Fished the dropoffs around rocky points working the lure back from the flats in the same direction the tide was travelling to best mimic baitfish and managed to pick up 8 keeper flathead from 38-50cm's with a few under size thrown back. All caught on naturally coloured jackall transams with a rattle. Filleted them once we got back home and divied up the fillets. Soon turned into some fresh fish and chips (quicktip, screw beer batter and buy yourself some panko bread crumbs). video-1491879730.mp4 Video of the release
  5. You guys are pulling on my hearstrings here, felt like a pet had passed when the word was that the site was going to close, feels like christmas when i was a kid knowing it will still continue. Ecstatic FR still lives on, more than happy to pay an annual membership fee especially if it's modest. I probably owe hundreds of dollars in terms of the time i've saved gathering information from this site. I'm sure there will be a good chunk of members who will be unwilling to pay for this site, but i'm sure there will be enough on here who are willing to pay to make it worth the admin's time. As stated above it might be good to have a range of packages which allow varying levels of access to entice fisho's of a variety of experience levels. Just my two cents. I will be posting more regularly, not taking this forum for granted anymore! Tightlines folks -Chris (P.S.Now i can have somewhere to brag once i catch that meter plus jew)
  6. For those who wish to keep the spirit of FR going https://www.facebook.com/fishraider1/ Everyone go and like the link above
  7. Is there anything we as a community can do to somehow keep this running or pass the administrative baton over to someone else? I've learnt so much from fishraider, yet have so far still to come. Feels like a pet has passed away.
  8. Cheers for the info Matt I'd only get up to about 10 in the dam regardless as i'd want them to be for the most part self sufficient. I'd also probably be doing one or two fish at a time as i mostly catch poddy's under 10cm, but i'm too worried the birds will get to them again. How big is the dam you have your fish in? Damnit Roylo, i didn't want to spend cash on this (poor uni student) but you make it sound too good. I was initially looking at bass, silver perch and golden perch. Only thing holding me back is bigger fish look like they'll be a good dollop out of the wallet and the fingerlings will get hammered by all the birds (maybe even the eels in the dam).
  9. Yeah it's these bully mullet that i want to stock the dam with as these are the ones i have access to. Given how far they travel upstream into the fresh i figured i could stock them, but no breeding is a bit disappointing. Not sure how long they would last going straight from fresh back to salty water again. Though filleted and salted for strip baits would be the go. Mostly just wanted to stock my dam with some fish permanently to keep the mosquito's in check and something interesting to look at. (Also the mullet are free)
  10. Hi guys, I have a dam at home probably a touch bigger than a normal sized swimming pool. Before 2001 when the droughts hit and dried out the dam it used to have about 30 good sized koi in there, i restocked it a year or two ago with fingerlings but the cormorants and other predatory birds made short work of them.. Recently I've been catching a few mullet to use as bait, some of which have been around that 30cm mark. I know that you're meant to introduced them to freshwater by putting them in a decent sized aquarium with salt water and slowly turn it to fresh and i'd buy a solar powered fountain just to make sure they've got plenty of oxygen. With all this fresh around at the moment from the rains i'd pick its a decent time to go catch a few as they'd be already somewhat used to the freshwater, especially as where i fish is brackish water anyway. Just curious, do they need a certain food source, or will the small mosquito larvae and nymphs suffice? How big do they get? (assuming stunted growth) Any other care needed or will they be quite self sufficient? Cheers
  11. Love this time of year, the hawkesbury really comes to life. Cracker of a bream mate.
  12. I've had 2 Sedona's in a 2500 and a 4000 for the last couple of years, and they haven't missed a beat. Great drag power and stupidly affordable at around $80 if you look in the right places
  13. Had a quick little arvo session yesterday down at berowra Took a mate out to target some bream for a bit of fun, got in a bit late as was busy during the day, so only got in with an hour till the top of the tide Fished for a total of 3 hours, targeting some mangroves nice and close to the shoreline in deeper water Managed to pull out 2 legal bream, biggest going just under 30 Both very fat fish A little flathead, perfect size for the table Topped it off with a nice muddy in the trap All caught with chicken breast including bait for the crab trap Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Cheers Neil, I'm sure with all the hours, it's only a matter of time
  15. Berowra is only 10 minutes away from where I live, like to keep things as local as I can, there aren't too many squid in Berowra itself, and the Hawkesbury is a bit too far to travel for me currently (uni student, petrol is a killer on the wallet in a 4wd) So I try and catch the bait that I find in the system, though if I make a trip, I'll try load up on some squid Cheers
  16. The ones that I've picked up have all been under schools of small tailor, once gutted, each have had 2 or 3 small tailor in them. Find the small tailor, keep them around with burley, that will put you in with a good shot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I'm not very mechanically minded, trying to learn so I know what's going on with my motor if something plays up though. I'll rewatch the tutorial on how to clean the carbs on the bf30 a few times and give it a crack It's a temperamental little thing Likes to play up when I have free time
  18. Yeah I'll pop down to the local and grab some carby cleaner, see if that works Cheers mate
  19. I swapped some sparks around, The spark plugs themselves are not the issue Maybe the top cable, but the top plug worked fine in the middle port
  20. Cheers for all the replies fellas, puts a twinkle in my eye An update on the situation: I found another forum in which another bloke had a similar problem which has shed some light on the situation (or should i say antonywardle found it) I think the cause may be a clogged up jet in the carby. I took each spark plug cable off whilst idling, bottom two the revs dropped, top one the revs stayed the same (it also didn't zap me). Switched the plugs to make sure the spark plug wasn't the issue, and still when i took the cable off, top one didn't drop the revs. There's a youtube tutorial on how to clean the carby out for the Honda BF30, depending on if i have some extra time to fiddle around with it for a day, may do that, or to be safe may take it to a mechanic.
  21. Sedona 4000 all the way. I have a Shimano Raider 7ft in the 6-8kg, the 4000 reel compliments the rod perfectly with 15lb braid. Has a decent amount of drag strength, is a very strudy reel, and the catana being of a graphite construction as well, the lightweight reel suits the lightweight rod. I target mainly jews with live baits as well, i haven't nailed a big one on this setup but it feels more than capable ... will also allow you to use plastics, or even down size the leader to target bream and flathead with. The baitrunner is a nice option for a reel, i have one myself, but they are a bit clunky for a graphite rod i find, unless you go for the 4000 size shimano D or OC series.
  22. Yeah it was done by a mechanic. He installed a new impeller and water pump Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Very interesting, had no idea there was another species which looked like the yakka, how do you differentiate the two species apart from the size? The size 8 fine worm hooks bend quite easily, had to take things very slowly to get them out of the depths. Yeah i'm happy to send anything up to 45cm's down for them
  24. Engine runs warm, yeah the more and more i look into it by checking off all the easy fixes, the more it looks like its going to be a bigger problem unfortunately. B.O.A.T - Bust Out Another Thousand So about 6 months ago, dad hooked the boat up and ran the motor at home, one of our naughty dogs decided it would be fun to take the earmuffs off while dad was away from the boat, cooked all the internals. Only got it fixed a month ago, my first launch since was maybe 3 weeks ago, it revved past 3.5k no worries for about 2 minutes, and all of a sudden dropped out and since then it has been the same. I found that when the mechanic was tampering around the engine he had accidentally placed the fuel filter in a spot which made a kink in the line, i moved that and unkinked it, thinking that would be the problem. Went back out again later, still the same. No water in the hull. Everything else is the same on the boat except for the service it had on the motor. Throttle moves all the way, i checked the throttle and shifter linkages and they all seem to be moving as they should. Yeah i might go buy some new plugs this arvo. Not 100% on last service, ill have to ask the old man. With an ear muff at home. Its a BF30 from either 2004 or 2005 That would make sense to be honest, next time i run it ill check the fuel line/bulb to make sure its not collapsing. Cheers for your replies guys, really appreciate it
