  1. Hi yarraone, will be watching with interest as I have a trailer boat combination I feel has been missmatched. I could be wrong but I always have trouble driving the boat back onto the trailer, always wants to bugger off to the left about 1/3 the way on the trailer. You mention about the wheels being to small for the size of the boat. How would you know if the wheels or any other part of a trailers are correct for the size of the boat if you only have the basic knowledge of trailers. Thanks Alan
  2. Let me start with excellent catch and good on ya for helping someone less fortunate in the fishing department than yourself. Don't see what the big problem is on eating fish after the big spill. There's very little chance of getting sick from eating the flesh of a fish that is not exposed to that environment on a daily basic. If you were to cook the fish whole, whether it be baked or smoked I'd think twice as you never know what has attached itself to the fish and what ends up on the corner of the plate. The taking of shellfish would be a whole different scenario. Anyway, well done again on your catch and helping someone learn a bit more. If you see another fisho down at Como wharf looking desperate for a fish it's probably me. Cheers
  3. Good chance of catching a few blind mullet. Tips. Toilet paper best bait and don't forget your gloves.
  4. If there is paint already starting to peel you could try using a good water blaster.
  5. Haven't got a clue what it is, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be holding it until I did. Way to many bighty stingy things here. Lol
  6. I'd heard there was a few places protected on the north side, I didn't realise most of it was. Thanks for the info, looks like I'll be heading for dolls point. Just to make sure I'm doing the right thing, do they have s closed season for nippers. Cheers all
  7. I was told many years ago by an old sea dog that if you salt them down you should use sea salt. Not sure why but you can't argue with an old dog. Cheers
  8. Is there anywhere on the northern side of the Hacking? Cheers
  9. G'day all Without sounding to stupid, where can I gather a few nippers from other than going to Maianbar. Do not have a working boat at present. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
  10. I feel like a great weight has been lifted from my shoulders. Lol Cheers
  11. Smoke um. Salt, brown sugar, 15 mins in a smoker, two slabs of fresh crusty bread, lashings of butter. Awesome. If you smoke more than one makes for a great fish pie. Great catch for an early start. Cheers
  12. Yeah, I've only ever caught one other arrow from there and that was about five weeks ago. Mind you it was the only thing I caught that day. Can't complain with the arrows, tasted just as good. Salt pepper bit of chilli, oh yeah. Cheers guys, thanks for the encouragement.
  13. G'day Raiders First thanks to admin for this opportunity to join your forum. Hope I can add some interesting comments, fishing stories and receive some great advice from fellow fisho's from your excellent site. My name is Alan, I am 54 years young, my wife says I should grow up but my body tells me I'm already there plus a bit more. I reside in Como, but was born in England. I grew up in NZ from the age of 10. I have fished from the age of six, starting with course fishing around the local lakes/ponds around Manchester. After emigrating to Auckland, NZ in the early seventies fishing took on a whole new world both in size abundance and diversity. Just what every young fisho needs to stay keen. Thought I new my fair share requiring catching a fish, until my wife and I moved to Sydney. Talk about start again. It's more like pommy fishing where you have to specifically target a particular species. Not long after arriving in Sydney I bought a 6m centre console unfortunately between running a business and grandparent duties fishing from a boat has had to take a bit of a back seat. Sad to say the boat has not seen water for about 5 years, other than rain (embarrassing to say the least) I now have a bit more time on my hands and hope to sort the boat out in the near future, but am happy to fish from the rocks, beach or wharfs at present. As above I hope to be able to contribute to this forum, whether it be with a laugh or sharing a spot or two, I'll give it a go. Hope to see you out there. Cheers for now
  14. Awesome fish, great pic's and a brilliant winters day to be out there cleaning up. Hope the fish tasted as good as they look.
  15. Hi guys, new to this forum so here goes. Managed to get all my jobs/chores out the way yesterday and was about to settle in to watch another Sunday afternoon of TV. Flicking from fishing shows to the league, all the fishing shows looked to be repeats and the game did not include anyone I was overly interested in. So it was off with the goggle box and out with some squid gear. The weather was overcast but still. Left Como about 4.00pm heading for Bundeena through the national park, no sooner hit the Audley causeway and the heavens opened. Thought about turning round a couple of time as the rain persisted all the way to Bundeena. As I entered the township the rain stopped and my enthusiasm began to grow. Hit the wharf an hour before the last of the light disappeared, which coincided with low tide. The wharf was empty, which is a plus as most times it can be pretty full on. Wasn't expecting to much as the water was a bit cloudy and there was no one else around. On my third cast I was in, a nice arrow squid of about 230mm in hood length. Enthusiasm grew even more. A few more casts and another conference builder hit the wharf. A couple of fellow fisho's had now turned up hoping to bag a couple of big green eyes. As they had been there over the last couple of days with varying degrees of success. Darkness had now descend upon us and everybody went about trying to bag a squid. All went quite for an hour or so, then I changed jigs and I was in again. Had a bit of a pattern go as I was starting to catch two squid in quick succession every time I changed jigs. Didn't matter what colour, size, or price tag, if anything the cheap $3.00 ones did most of the damage. Not wanting to blow my own horn but I was also the only one catching them with any frequent consistency. Starting to get pretty cold around 9.30 and the old knees aren't what they used to be with the cold coming up through the concrete. The squid had definitely gone off the bite by this time. Managed to catch fifteenth arrow squid, threw back six and kept the other nine averaging about 220mm in hood length. (Would add a picture if I knew how) lol. All in all a good afternoon was had, and proved to myself I should get out more rather than watching fishing on TV and wishing. Cheers fellow fisho's
  16. Was down there about a week ago, fair bit of construction work being carried out on the ramp but there was a couple of people fishing off the wharf.
