  1. Hi Batemans is hit and miss at the best of times and the Clyde river is no exception . There is a deep hole just up past the Nelligen camp ground boat ramp at the first bend that I have caught good Jews in . At high tide the little creek that runs through the camp ground is good for Bream of good size .

Other than that it's just search for any structure and good luck.

  2. Hi like Camper I am 77 years old and I have major health problems I can't walk to my letter box without a 10 minute break to get my breath back.

My fishing boating days are all but gone . I have 3 boats all set up for drive on/off and set out with all the gadgets but it doesn't help when you can't walk to the boat to use it.

My solution is GET A MATE that's the only way I can get on the water these days and the mate must be understanding about the health restrictions and be tolerant of my slowness to

get from one place to another.

I am fine once in the boat and I now have an electric reel so I can fish 30 meters or deeper.

If you must fish solo do all the things that Noel suggests + more.

  3. Never done it . I like you in so many ways.

I have often thought of using my dash camera as it\s cheap and does a good job filming wher you drive on a basic drive. sit it on a tripod at the front of the boat and when needed you can pick it up and scan around with it . Just a thought.

Don't know how you would trandfer the footage on a web site or Utube.

I can't afford a g pro so I thought this may be an option.

Is there any other options to welding a patch or puttying up the holes?

this does look like it’s only in the area that was contacting the carpeted skids.

    Otherwise the boat looks perfect.

Where do you live ? and is the boat off the trailer ? Maybe I could come and have a look at the damage and advise you what steps to take.

I am going down to Bermi fishing on Mon, Tues, Wed, and Thurs next week but any time after that I could come and have a look at the boat for you

    Frank

PS the boat should not be resting on the skids they are only to stop the boat from rocking side to site when under way on the trailer. The weight of the boat should be on the keel rollers.

Gday guys. This is my first post back after a long lay off not having a boat and I apologise if this has been addressed elsewhere on the forum. I have looked but couldn’t find any direct answers to my question regarding welders in southern Sydney. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I just bought a boat that I was told had some holes but once I removed the carpeted skids off the trailer I found many more holes than expected. My initial plan of puttying the holes has now changed to welding plates on either side of the boat.

I have made contact with a local boat welder who I am waiting on a response from but I’m not sure if it’s too small a job for him to be interested or if he is simply too busy to get my boat in.

I would love to get the boat on the water before it gets too cold to take the daughter out, so any recommendations of boat welders with proven experience would be appreciated.

Again I apologise if this has been addressed elsewhere in the forum.

If you want to do the job yourself and save HEAPS of dollars you could come to my place in Berala and I could teach you how to apply this soft alloy material it take a bit of skill first up to do it and if not taught you may find it difficult to do.

I will not charge you anything to show you how to do the job.

  6. Hi A couple of years ago I could have done the job for you but I am simply too old now to take on any work.

If it's a old boat with many small holes in it you will find once the welder starts sanding away the old contaminated surface good enough to weld (material must be clean ) he/she will find many more holes and the job will cost more than the boat is worth.

You can do the job yourself with some practice. There is a soft melting alloy rod that you can buy and you will need a good propane torch about $80 from large hardware store and you clan the alloy around the hole and heat the area up , while heating the area keep moving the torch ( DON'T JUST LEAVE THE FLAME ON ONE SPOT ) and dab the welding rod onto the area . When the surface of the alloy reaches the correct temperature the rod will start melting, wipe the rod over the hole and this will make a permanent repair.

As with most things practice practice practice on a off cut of Alloy you can buy a small plate of alloy from the same store that sells the flame frower. select the same thickness plate as you hull .

  7. Zoran. I had a similar situation. When I joined this site I wanted to use my old nick name  that I have had since I was about 20 years of age and used it on several fishing sites over the years. That name was " Nimrod " but the name was taken by a user that had never posted, so I had to choose another user name " FrankS ".

You should have bought a Aluminium trailer from me 27 years ago and you would still be using the original trailer.

I bought my Savage Lancer in 1984 and still have it, put new ETec on it 2005 and have replaced trailer once.

  9. I was recently asked how many boats I have owned over my lifetime and I couldn't think of a number to tell the guy so I said about 20 well here is a list of the ones I can remember I have owned.

Now it comes to boats I have had since joining this forum.
Pongrass 17'2" waverider half cab had 120hp Johnson on it but switched to 90hp Johnson ( late model ) for more reliability as it was moored in Bermagui
and I took it outside often.

Quintrex 15' tinnie 40hp Evenrude made aluminium trailer for it.

There would be no doubt a few mixed in there somewhere I have forgotten about.

Forgot the 16foot wood surf boat I fully glassed over and put  60hp Army johnson on it ( heavy duty motor ) built steel trailer for it. Only had it 3 weeks and one day down at picnic point a guy seen it and fell in love with it and offered me silly money for it . Hope he still uses it.

as well as these I have been halves in 4 other boats that I won't count here.

Just thought this may be interesting for some members here.

  10. Don't know their proper name but they bury themselves vertically in the sand and pop up now and again . emerge about half their body out of their hole and reverse back down into their hole. I used to watch them from my boat while moored in Bermagui Harbour . My mooring was two spots down from the slipway where they work on  the boats. If you want to see these eels doing their thing there is a road that you can stop at and watch them behins the slipway.

  11. Unfortunately this project remains just as it was back in September. I have not laid a finger on it since.

Due to my failing health and extremely hot weather conditions I have not been able to do any work on this project, the boat is at my mates place in Guildford and I live in Berala and every time I make the effort to go over to do something to the boat the weather is so hot I just can't breath so I just look at it for 10 minutes and come home again.

Maybe once it cools down a bit I may be able to do some more work to it, just hope it doesn't get too darn cold before I can get something done.

  13. Hi Neil. Hope you are not feeling the heat as much as I am of late, used to love Summer but now just can't breathe with the hot weather and spend most of my time locked up in my bedroom looking at old video tapes.

I had a young bloke here to try and pick my brain about fishing in general ( try and help new fishoes out a much as I can ) and he started talking PE this and PE that and I thought " what the *&%^ is this guy on about. When he left I found a couple of rods and reels I have and they have this PE talk on them so I asked Google what it was all about.

Live and learn something new every day.

Also note in most cases box trailer hubs may not have marine seals behind the hub.

That is a very good point and a new set of bearings and seals would be best no matter which way you went.

  15. OK do you want to do this on a budget or buy new from dealership. If you don't mind spending a quid just go to a trailer shop and buy axle, hubs with bearings and wheels and tyres to suit just keep in mind there are dozens of different lengths of axles and you would need to get the one that fits your trailer.

The cheapest way out IF you don't mind putting a bit of man power and time into it is get an old Box Trailer and use the axle hubs and wheels you will probably have to buy a spare separately as not many box trailers are sold with spares.

If you don't mind travelling to Berala I have a old box trailer here you can have for FREE but will need new tyres about $100 each and a spare.

  16. Neil. You mentioned 2 of my favorite places, Coopernook pub, and Orange.

Coopernook pub holds dear in my heart as it was a regular stop every time I went to visit my brother and family in Moorland he had a 200 acre property with a small creek running just behind the house, many a day spent exploring that little creek. There is a road up there named after my family which now runs through part of the property. Orange is where my Daughter was born and I still have friends that live on the Ophir road. Been a while since I have been in either area but the memories are still there.
