  1. Ok So 54lb runabout most likely a little bit heavier then a 4.2 renegade. Hopefully the spot lock feature works ok on the renegade being a 40lb. I have used it with the peddle and works fine but sometimes stuggles against tide but the tides in brisbane waters are really strong so i guess alot of people would struggle.

How long ago did you do yours, I think its great that such an obsolete motor can be upgraded!

I wonder for a power upgrade is as simple as upgrading the armature, one thing at a time i guess.

  2.  Very much appreciate the input, finally to hear from someone who has done it.

i was thinking on giving some parts a bit of an overhaul and sealing some components.

I bought the MK 2 years ago for like $200 and the foot controller crapped it self after a few weeks. So I made my own but then starting researching and that's how I found it.

is yours a 40lb and what size boat do you have? Do you go off shore fishing with it ?

It’s a bit conspiracy theory but I think they’re built to have some faults. Keeps you going back to the dealer emptying your wallet. Case in point: galvanised steel bolts. Why the heck wouldn’t you use 316 stainless it’s not like we pay peanuts for a trailer

Mate they claim they are Australian built, maybe designed but I reckon they come to Australia by the container and bolted together here, straight from china.

  4. Last outdoor expo I went to I went ot the ST JOHNS exhibit and picked up one of these bad boys for like $30 or something. Fits in my safety gear box in a nice little bag.

    https://shop.stjohn.org.au/camping-first-aid-safety-kit_1001319/

The benefit of this specific kit it has a whistle, wind proof matches and a poncho. Very conveinent and has basics to bet you out of trouble.

I guess regarding safety gear is knowing how to use it to and if anyone else is on your boat, having them know where to access it.

  5. Raiders,

I am one of the unfortunate ones who does not have the privilage of owneing an ipilot minn kota. I do how ever own a 2003 Minn Kota V1 Powerdrive. I have been doing some research and have been in touch with some Minn Kota specialists accross the pond and they have stated it is possible to convert my Powerdrive to an Ipilot capable one.

I simply need to upgrade the control board to a V2 board and basically retro fit the IPILOT head. All these parts will cost around 900 AUD delivered.

I will no doubt be making the purchase soon but has anyone had any similar experience doing this and what are their thoughts? Or is it worth just buying a $2500 MK outright?

Once obtain the parts I will create a video so others can see becasue unfortunately there is very vague info about this online.

Just for info I have a 40LB thrust model the 48'' shaft. Let me know what you guys think.

  6. Mine was stock with 4 blade, i have unfortunately hit a rock on the skeg when i first bought it and a nice chunk of it was crumbled off, havnt had any issues with performance though. Last service they found a heap of send in the imppellor intake but unless prepared to take lower leg off to clean it theres not much that can be done.

    Good video Josh.

had the same issue with my telwater trailer lights - it’s the same model as yours. They went in 2 weeks, then in 6 months then in 13 months. Dealer replaced then free of charge first two times, the third time I went to supercreep and replaced with a properly waterproof pair of lights (not faux waterproof).

that is BS about lights having a 6 month warranty, EVERY electrical product sold in Australia has a 12 month warranty. The dealer ripped you off as he couldn’t be bothered to fill in the paperwork required by telwater.

Long story mate, but put it this way I was not impressed how they handled it and I faced about $80 extra on the service and to tell you the truth the side lighting has failed has well. Telwater needs to understand that if they are selling a boat trailer in which people are most likely going to inundate it then they should find lights that are fit for purpose or sell them with a detachable ligh board.

Another this is the number plate. Imagine if boat trailer compamnys would put a stainless stell hinge as a number plate. Think of how many number plates would be saved lol

  8. Ladies and Gents,

I am one of the lucky owners of a 420 Renegade and I get a lot of questions about it by people, i have created a short video you may be interested in but basically I want to give my opinion on it. In case you are looking to buy one feel free to use this as a guide to give you an idea what you are in for.

I have owned my unpainted renegade for nearly 3 years and it certainly has looked after me, great size with many great features it comes stock with. A lot of people do own this model and I only have great to say about it. It is powered by a 40hp merc which gets up to about 22 knots. Very very fuel efficient and quiet.

The boat is set up for novice and advanced anglers there is no doubt about that. If you are a true flathead or bass angler you will not go wrong with one.

I do not work for Quintrex nor endorse them, again I am simply giving my honest view about the boat.

Please feel free to watch the video and if you have any other questions, just PM me,

    JA.

  9. I remember this happening to me years ago, curious I was I started to slowly drop the bait and bring it closer and closer. Seen all these wierd yellow fish. I kept trying to catch one, turns out when I pulled them they were jackets. I went and bought wire trace next time and caught a heap and had an awesome barabachuey

  10. Been on the bench for past while, after taking the boat to Gosford for its annual service I arranged to head out for a run on Saturday morning. I woke up at 5.30 but was not in any hurry to get out on the water. I did not have much motivation to get out as the tide was high and I was simply unsure of what I should do.

I thought to my self to get back to the bread and butter, so I stopped at the servo and grabbed a bag of frozen squid. We arrived at Patonga and we were soon enough underway. We decided to give the deep blue a run and made our way out to a wreck on the chart that we could not find.

Seconds after our patanostas made contact with the sea floor we were taken by surprised and pulled up 2 nice flattys. After re baiting, sure enough another 2 flathead came up, on the same patanosta. In total we pulled up 6 Flathead of size, some small squire and a sargent baker.

It was a good day out and a nice alternate to go back to bait fishing after a long while. It is a shame I see a stigma about fishing, those who bait fish are despised of, it is quiet sad. Comes under the old 'I used to be with it, but then changed what it was'

I have posted another video report to youtube and have kindly attached the link below. Please mind my rants. Swearing is sensored.

  11. Looks good, need more authority on the water. I would be very happy if the police sat and watched the thugs that come and do power turns on their wake boats and jet skis near my boat when they have the whole water way to 'play' on.

I reckon they would of have a field day if they were undercover and woy woy and blackwall boat ramps. The amount of times I see jet skies revving the guts out, making wake and power turning at a boat ramp is obscured. Alot of them have higher ego than consideration for the moored boats and people trying to launch and retrieve.

  12. I know this is an old thread how ever for drone advice, I use DJI phantom 4. Some of my fishing videos on youtube will demonstrate a few shots. DJI P4 has great range, its quiet stable compared to mavic.

Downside is, batteries are expensive and can be bulky.
