  1. Hi raiders im planing to chance northern beaches first thing in morning. Can anybody recommend anywhere in particular I have surf rods and gear and spin gear both of which I will bring. Any advice on what I should be doing ? Most effective bait? Large baits or small? What weight sinkers??
  2. My trip up north was cancelled today and I'm pretty disappointed to say in the least. I'm based in Sydney. Anybody care to take me for days fishing. I have gear bait etc and willing to split any costs fuel, extra tackle etc would be great if anyone could help. Kind regards Sean
  3. I'm heading stockton beach tomorrow for a night or two. Is there any area on the beach you would recommend, just a general area??
  4. Thanks I don't have gear heavy enough to bully a shark, any other advice as to what tackle I might need. Do I need to fish far out or in close in gutters. And would appreciate if someone could give/pm me a general area of the beach to fish to increase chances. Is live bait an option or a waste of time
  5. Hi raiders I'm going to stockton beach this weekend. Has anyone any tips for fishing the beach. What's to be caught, what methods to fish this time of year. Gear, bait and rigs to use??, any advice at all would be well apriciated. Ideally I would like a Jewish but will settle for anything at all. Thanks in advance for any help.
  6. Ye that's her, across from power station, Ye that mate who brought me there caught some hammerhead before at that place.
  7. I got it up lake macquarie area, not sure of exact area mate, a buddy brought me up
  8. I cut full length fillets from him and have them salting for bait on my next trip
  9. Oh right you learn something new everyday, are they good for eating or bait??
  10. After some suggestions and advice from some raiders I gave pier 2 a shot Friday night, not much happening most of the evening, striking to early on what seemed to be a strong take I lost it. A couple of hours later the only take after I landed my first tailor. He fell to salted pilchard. Saturday being of work at late noticed I made my way up central coast way with a mate. I think it was lake maquarie and spent all evening into the early hours getting the odd small bream, snapper and leather jackets. the livies were untouched. Up early this morning in central coast and we missed a few fish but we're hounded with small fish stripping hooks. In the last hour I guess I landed my first garfish and probably be my pb for a while it measured out at 76cm. I assume this would be the higher side of the average size??
  11. My opinion this is the best answer. I personally would try avoid conversation as it is a bit shady a young fella, the only person who spoke to him comes over snooping around and he's greeted with a nice visit from fisheries haha and as for calling cops I wouldn't do that for a number of reasons, yes there breaking the law but, the fisheries would have have a bigger part to enforce this. Also I believe the cops can sometimes abuse there power and getting cops involved can bring unnecessary hassle. Thanks all for your advice I think a quiet call to the fisheries is probably the easiest and safest. Sean.
  12. Yes budzta I'd love to join you, I don't have cleats or boots but will purchase them, I will pm you.
  13. Thanks dmg for advice all I don't have any interest in the harbour really as far as eating them goes, not even east of the bridge. I know they say it's OK to eat a small amount of fish from east side in the harbour. But to be honest in my opinion that's a load of bull as its basically saying its OK to take a small level of toxins that won't cause many health problems. I want 00.00 toxins haha YOUR HEALTH IS YOUR WEALTH. non negotiable
  14. I'm not here to stir any pots but today I noticed a man fishing and he caught a few fish beside me which appeared to be bream and most definitely undersized and they did not make it back into water. Now i find it hard enough as it is to go out and catch a few legal ones without someone lobbing the small ones in a bucket to take home. Without actually confronting him and starting an argument as I'm easy going and don't like confrontation, what should I do to stop this??
  15. Thanks everyone for your help, I was out today in Brigh Line was OK, 10lb braid with 8lb Fluorocarbon, After bringing my sinker weight down and brought hook size up a size or two today and lost one or two what seemed to be good fish (just cut the line after a few head shakes) plenty of bream boarder line legal and a Flathead or two on the prawns. After running out of prawns I switched to zman grub motor oil and got another flattie or two and a sting ray on the soft plastic, this is unusual I assume to get stingray on sp. But all in all the advice helped. Are fish in botany bay area OK to eat as I know the harbour is pretty much a no go.
  16. Thank you I'm trying out Brighton le sands today with a handful of fresh prawns and a few of them zman grubs, paddle tails and some hard body rapalas. So hopefully something will work out.
  17. Hi Tara, I have been to a few wharfs around and rocks at maroubra, malabar, LA perouse. Areas similar to these, I'm using Fresh and frozen prawns, frozen pilchards and salting them myself, frozen squid. Berlying with bits of prawns pillies breadcrumbs and tuna oil. I think I'm of to a good start but just not getting the fish. I'm destroyed with eels for some reason lately it's all I seem to catch. And trying to free them from tangled rigs is starting to piss me of as it can be time consuming. Is there anyway I can avoid these eels?? And I have been using some soft plastics with no result, some of the zman sp. But I have not put in enough time with them yet so that is my own fault.
  18. Thank you both for your kind helpful messages, and I guess that is probably one of the best ways to learn savit. As they say "watch and learn" but it would drive me insane having to go near any water and observe people fishing, with gear at home and me missing out on the fun haha. I will find that map on this website and see where it takes me. Yes big Neil 20,000+ maybe one will feel sorry for me haha. Hopefully in the coming weeks I can source a few areas to maybe bag a few bigger fish, thanks again guys. Sean
  19. Hi raiders, I'm looking for a bit of help, I need somebody to show me the ropes for some land based fishing around Sydney. I'm 24 yr old Irish guy, respectful and professional. I have been doing bits and pieces around Sydney but am only producing undersized fish. I could do with a mentor to show me certain rigs and areas that will increase my catch rate. Believe it or not as an Irish man I'd rather be fishing than in the pub. I did a lot of fishing at home in Ireland but it was all fresh water trout fishing, trawling, fly fishing etc. My friends here are not as passionate about it as I am and make plans to go but end up in the pub and are to sick and sorry for themselves when it comes to the time for fishing, which is very frustrating. I understand people have put a lot of time into finding there secret areas and don't expect them to disclose them to me. I have a few rods and tackle that I think are suitable enough for any land based around the area. I'm bound to public transport as I don't have my licence sorted at the moment but am willing to travel. Located in Waterloo. I'm free most weekends and some weekday evenings.I hope someone can send me in the right direction or allow me to join them some day. Thanks for taking the time to read this and any advice/help I get back. Sean.
  20. Thank you any recommendations on a good stable yak with decent storage. I'm considering a two man one as I always have mates wanting to tag along. Second hand is what I'm thinking, around the $1000 mark as I'm Irish on a work visa, and cash is scarce for the next while paying for more visas etc...
  21. Lungfai76 thanks for the advice, so you reckon the harbour is the business for some yak fishing?? Where is best place to launch yak from??
  22. Hi my fellow fisher's, I'm looking to buy a kayak and do a bit of fishing in it. I'm based in Sydney. I'm wondering if anyone had any advice on what sort of kayak to buy and if the fishing in Sydney area is good from kayak. I intend on using it around the bays, ports, harbour's etc... is it a good idea? All info/advice is welcome.
  23. Hi I'm 24 year old Irish guy whose mad about fishing I would love someone to go fishing with as my mates are not fully dedicated and get board easily. I have most of, if not all equipment needed for land based I'm sure some of it would get me by as light boat tackle no problem. I have made previous post which got me one or to contacts but with our work schedules and weather it has been difficult to get out. I live in Alexandria/mascot and currently do not have my own transport but will use public transport. I am available on weekends I'm not fussy as to what fishing we do as long as I'm out with a chance to catch. Would love to get out this evening or tomorrow as Monday I hope to meet up with one of my contacts for a day on the water?. Hope someone is kind enough to take me under there wing and let me tag along ha.thanks in advance for any tips, help or company.
  24. Thank you grandad ha, i hope that is a bit better
  25. Hi im new to this, im 24 year old irish lad living in Sydney for the last year and a bit. I have done alot of fishing back home in ireland but dont have the local knowledge or access to a boat. Id love if i could meet someone to show me the ropes. Ideally it would be brilliant if someone needs a hand on boat or just company fishing. I can pay fuel costs and any other costs. Really would love a day back out on the water its been to long. Im located in mascot and am willing to travel . But unfortunatly i am limited to public transport. As i work during the week i am limited to weekends.i have some tackle and rods there couple of medium action, 3-6kg, 8-10kg rods and some basic tackle but will invest in any equipment needed. Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me. Sean.
