  1. Got home today to a very nice surprise- a package of lures made by FrankS- he even engraved them "Waza Wobbler's" They are well made and will have a special place in my collection. A huge thanks to you Frank and Merry Christmas, to you and all the folk in this wonderful community that is Fishraider!
  2. Great Lizard -hope it's the 1st of many big ones. Well done releasing her also
  3. Hi Killemjohnny- there are no dumb questions about fishing- just things yet to be learned and this forum is the best place to ask! We used to get heaps of them at night, both off the rocks and in Sydney Harbour, especially Sow and Pigs reef. Look up "Reminiscing-Silver Trevally" in search engine
  4. Ok thanks it would be over 20 years since we were launching from Mystery, just wondered if the ramps were still there
  5. Hi JonD many years ago when the bar was too shallow or it was big run out in the morning we used to launch at Mystery Bay south end ramp (with a panel van and 15' glass boat) there was a worse quality ramp at the north end but 4wd only. Can you still launch from there? Just wondering- not going to. Thanks Waza
  6. Thanks Rebel, I could put a thousand stories on here about adventures down the cliffs. It is an extremely dangerous place to get to, but the rewards were usually great. Sadly, the cliff claimed a fair few lives and ALL the old crew had near death incidents. Last few times I went there were from the safety of a boat! We've been thinking about a "44 year reunion" down there in 12 months, but it'd be by helicopter in/out!
  7. Hi Pete when I read your PM I was wondering if the spot was what we were told- a dairy/butter factory. There was a state estuary comp there (Shoalhaven) and our "spies" told us about the gluten, if you didn't have it, you wouldn't have a chance in the comp. I didn't fish that one, but heaps of amazing fish were caught, mainly around the factory. Our guys didn't run in the first three (teams event) but it (the bait) was discussed at the club meeting prior to the event
  8. Hi JohnD yes caught plenty of mixed sized Jews and some decent Kings on them. Also been "destroyed" by massive Kings at both north and south Curracurrang on big Pike. At the "gulf" at south Curracurrang had awesome sized fish take Pike floating upside down on the surface- they know they're still alive, regardless of "floating" I believe one of the reasons larger Kingfish cruise the edges, is looking for Pike, as Noel says above you have to be ready when putting one out as they are fragile when handled. Jew on the other hand, seem to like "smelly" foods- Yakka's, Tailor, Luderick, Pike and Cockie's, Mullet and beach worms all have distinct strong smells. Interesting RickMarlin has also caught Longtails on them
  9. Pike -we called them sabre tooth as well- best live bait for big Kings and great for Jew as well, even when they play dead (usual "tactics")
  10. Sounds like a great day! Nice photo's for the album too!
  11. They were a bloody good lure too!
  12. Excuse the engraving?? They look great to me!! What a good idea to have 2 weights in same size Inventing/making is a great talent to have and you Frank are highly skilled at both. Thanks for calling them waza wobblers too, cheered me up greatly! Regards Waza
  13. Great bunch of reels there SquidMarks! I had one of the original geared Alvey's but same problem with inertia and lost a lot of lures snagged on the bottom, so got rid of it cheaply. Rare collectors reel now. 50A5E is a fantastic Bream reel as well as Luderick reel
  14. Alvey 650 C3 Cedar spool with "Rosewood" stain- non-reversing star drag model
  15. Another Alvey 650A5 Bakelite spool -the most common size used on the beach
  16. This is the reel Green Hornet is after spool is considerably narrower than most Alvey's
  17. Hi SquidMarks the one in the picture hasn't been in production for a fair while but was a big seller for both Luderick and Bream fishers. In my opinion a better Bream reel is yet to be found
  18. Thanks mate love home made fishing tackle and I've seen the quality of your inventions/creations!
  19. Some of the regular used Alvey's from left to right bottom row- 650A5 (obscured) 600A5 Fibreglass then Bakelite, 50A5E Luderick, 600A5 Bakelite, 600A5 again in shelf in front of Alvey picture then 651E5 live bait reel- E5 Drag has handles on the spool,Non-using collectables- green one is a 600A5 "VB" edition then a "Bundy Rum" model, then 600A5 lightweight, Top row 700A5 next not an Alvey, then Cedar 450, Cedar Rosewood stain 550 then 450 Silky Oak
  20. A near mint 550 A3 Cedar with the Rosewood stain, reel is in great condition but box has seen better days
  21. Wonder Wobbler also came in a blue and white box, wrapped in white paper- not Walker Wobbler I know,, but first lure I cast out and caught a fish on, so special place in my fishing history
  22. Maybe Bill Way? Not sure of surname spelling, but he was Nat Nat's I think
