  1. Was their this morning; water was very cold, green and dirty, was very quiet fish wise also.
  2. Ok, this is due to how fast the water is moving and the fact it is trying to play catch up (try to equalise). First things first the further you travel up river the less tidal movement is occurring (i.e. if low tide is 0.8 and high is 1.8 there will not be a 1m difference up river it will be less). If water is running out at Lugarno how can it still be getting deeper at Milperra? This because the water at Milperra is actually still lower than the water at Lugarno (water trying to play catch up). It actually takes quite some time for water to move up river, it is not an instantiations thing. If you have ever put water down a drain and waited for it to come out the other end you will see what I mean. There are a number of factors that influence how fast the water moves such as water depth, size of river mouth even direction of the wind and wind speed. Hope I haven’t left you more confused; have a look at this link it might help explain how it all works a little better. link
  3. I doubt it would be more than 500kg dry weight.
  4. The "strike and run" mechanism I presume is a bait runner function, it enables you to let the fish take the bait without feeling the tension of the line, once you turn the handle it should disengage allowing you to fight the fish with preset drag. The little knob at the rear of the reel allows you to adjust the tension of the bait runner. Hope this helps
  5. Great work Ray, I would be very happy with a feed of squid like that!

    Guppies

Yes they do breed very well and are very hardy; that’s why they have become a pest fish; they simply out-compete the natives. They are pretty bland in colour and if you ever decide to get other fish later on and want them to breed the gambusia (mosquito fish) will probably eat any babies/eggs they have. You would be better of taking Chris 55 advice and get something else. They do keep your pond mosquito free however

    Guppies

The water storage dams in Wakehurst Golf Coarse have heaps of guppies (mosquito fish) in them, or even the creeks running into Manly Dam.
  12. Best way i have found to catch lives is with bait jigs under small float. Put a bit of prawn, pilcard, etc on hooks. Berly up with bread tuna oil sand. To keep them alive all you need is a 20l plastic bucket with battery opperated aerator (works good for yakka's but with slimies pools work better), if your lucky you might even find rock pool. Chris

  14. Hi, haven't fished Eden before but do a bit o f live baiting of the rocks. Normally I run about 3m of 60-100lb trace (depending on what you are chasing) then a float on main line with adjustable stopper (deep adjusted depending on conditions). Haven't really bothered much with bridle rigging bait, normally if using yakka's I just hook them in the shoulder, when using slimeys and frigate a hook in the top jaw will normally do trick. I have also heard when using Frigate you can run no float and simply free spool them out and retrieve them in till they get hit or die, they don't normally last as long as they need lots of water running over gill; yakka's are very hardy and in right conditions will last all day. When is the best time for LBG at Eden, might have to do a trip down there soon. Chris
  15. Hi, There is an aquarium at Blacktown in group of shops on corner of Bungarribe Rd and Lock St that when i went to last (probally nearly a year ago) had a selection of native fish (barra, saratoga, perch and i think bass) that you could try. hope that help, good luck Chris
