R u talking about the hole in the wall ramp being gated until 0730...Mmm strange I was there last week at 0630. Squid just starting to come on, plenty caught back of bare island on Monday , hopefully their still around . Good effort considering the ordinary start, but weather was fantastic and better than staying st home with 3 small children? like me!

No, boat ramp on the Georges River behind Flower Power off Newbridge Rd,Moorebank.

Wind & swell yesterday didn't allow us to fish Bare Island.

Yep, certainly beats the hard slog of a day I had.

Your last act of giving those blokes nippers will return you some good karma!

    Cheers scratchie!!!

Thanks Scratchie, hoping to get out next week again so some good Karma would be good.

  3. After pumping a heap of yabbies yesterday at Maianbar I was looking forward to a day out on the water with the FIL.

Up at 5am for a 530am depart & we were under way, just a quick fuel stop first. The usual plan is to head to the ramp behind flower power & travel down the river to the bay, however the gates were locked with a sign that now states they will be unlocked by 7:30am.

Ok plan B required, the choice to use picnic point or the George's river national park ramp. Decided on the later as it is a better set up ( even if it costs $8)

Arrive & get the boat in the water, start the motor & let it idle while the FIL parks the car. FIL jumps in puts it into gear & nothing!!!

Quick check & everything looks ok. Jump on trusty google & instantly put 2&2 together. FIL had recently changed the impeller & knew Straight away something hadn't lined up correctly.

Boat back out of the water & on our way home for repairs. Pull the bottom end off & sure enough shaft isn't line up, line it up put it back together & after testing we are away again.

So finally hit the water just before 9 & away down the river we go. Get to Botany Bay & the wind is a little stronger than predicted. FIL decided we will try a few drifts which only resulted in some small snapper around Towra wide.

Decision made to head to Yarra Bay & try for some squid but again wind & swell not in our favor, so we are on the move again.

Across to Captains cook landing site, FIL decides a drift is needed again which only resulted in finding the dreaded pinkies again, finally convince him to head over to the weed beds to try for squid. After a couple of casts I dropped one but perseverance paid off & I finally had a squid on board, sadly it was the only one.

We then drifted in a few different spots with no luck before deciding to call it quits.

On the way back in the George's river we stopped & gave 2 blocks in a boat the remaining nippers & wished them luck.

While not being an ideal day & having to find something for dinner tonight, it was still a good day out & beats a day at work anytime.

Thanks to the Raiders that offered the squid advice.

If the swell is down head to bare island front or back, or if swell up captain cook landing place to the oil wharf, let me know how u go...

    Thanks for the info.

hopefully we can get a few, will let you know how we go

  5. Morning, Heading out in Botany Bay Wednesday morning & hoping to find some squid.

The problem is I'm heading out with the FIL who is set in his ways & we always end up heading to his regular spots. Which is normally ok as they tend to produce at least a Flatty or 2.

Having never really targeted squid before I want to convince him to give it ago as I love a feed of calamari.

Question is - Where to start?

if anyone can point me in the right direction as to some locations to try out it would be greatly appreciated

    thanks

  8. I think I saw you on the water,

    Hi Rob,

Was in the father in laws yellow/white half cabin with a 60hp yamaha on the back.

How nice was it in the bay,the weather was sensational.

If you were anywhere near us when i caught the flatty,i was the one yelling and screaming with arms raised in the air.

we got a good feed out of the croc, feed me & my other half and 3 kids + the in laws.

    A few more pics

  9. Well I finally manage to get out for a fish.It has been a good 4-5 months due to work/kids sport & bad weather.

Hit the water about 6am from Sylvania with Rob(Father in law). Plan was to try and head outside if conditions would allow. As we motored thru the bay the conditions looked great and i was suprised by how few boats were out.

As we reached the heads the swell started to roll in and as we got abit further out was quiet decent.Decision was made to head back in,and we headed towards Brighton for a drift. As we neared we noticed birds diving into the water and could see some little bust ups on the surface which we discovered were small tailor and had some fun catching a few.I managed to hook a just legal flattie(40cm)and a 39cm whiting.

After nothing else for a while and several unsuccesful moves to various spots we decided to try a drift in close, near to the sailing club.

It was then that my little rod buckled over,I had a soft plastic out as we drifted..I could tell straight away that this was a good fish.

After what was probaly a 4-5 min fight(felt like 15) we got a glimpse of a good flattie in the water.

It then took several runs as Rob tried his best to land the fish with the net.finally we had it in the net and a 83cm Flathead was on board.

We decided to keep it for a feed and I am looking forward a feed of fresh fish,as it has been so long.

Flattie was caught on a shimano catana 702,2-4kg with sienna 2500 6pound crystal fireline,8pound vanish on a 70mm squidgy fish(killer tomato) on a 1/8TT jighead.
