  1. has anybody ever heard of fin being spotted in the harbour?

Had 3 fish to 1m darting around a wharf in the eastern suburbs this afternoon that i can only identify from ID charts as yellowfin... could be another tuna but a distinct blue back with yellowstripe and black tail.. are there other tuna that go by this description?

Ive heard of a couple taken off north head landbased a few years ago, pretty unusual though

  2. Its ok because I fish for big kingfish we fish on top high ledges.I've seen lots of kingfish over a metre lost there when they lift up the fish its around 2 to 4 mtres from the water. You dont wanna loose that big kingfish of a lifetime. That kingfish I caught there 18kilo a while ago I caught that on 80 pound braid.

    Cheers bangus :1fishing1:

Sounds like you need to buy a gaff to me......

  3. i parked on marine parade north side where the bend is buddy

    then walk to the ledges

Nice work hooklineandsinker, spinning is a very addictive style of fishing, and with a bit of work can become very effective also.

If you want to mix it up a bit, get some Slash Baits, small knife jigs and some skipping poppers to add some arrows to your quiver.

    Cheers,

    Bobfish

  4. again a want to go for a beach fish on monday [ late afternoon and into the dark ]

anyone been fishing the northern beaches lately ???? any reports ????

    cheers

    craig

Bonito are as thick as thieves at the moment, great sport on the bream gear. They are taking any metals around the 40gm mark

  5. Just to add a bit of variety, my setup for land based kings runs as follows.

I run a short plaited double in 24kg main line to a 4 turn cats paw in 5m or so of 80lb twisted leader. This is connected by a three turn uni knot to a ball bearing swivel to which I tie my 100lb leader.

Its seems a bit over-done but the double/cats paw connection makes for a smooth passage through the guides when under strain and the twisted leader gives me a heap of control when the fish gets in close. You can really lock it up and go to town

  6. Those blokes need to harden up :074: Fishraiders would have knocked that tiddler over no worries :1yikes:

    Cheers Stewy

I just started frothing at the mouth...... gimme gimme gimme!

  7. One point to consider is whether larger species frequent the area your fishing. If this spot is known for jews, kings etc then the bait your catching may very well be their regular food source and would definitely warrant sending one out.

Big bait does equal big fish, but big fish require patience

    Cheers

  8. Yeah that's the thing, I reckon Im gonna find it's too bulky for flicking lures around and then I'm just going to use it for trolling and baitfishing. If I'm only gonna use it for that then I dont see the point in spending the money on braid.

Go the braid, fishing isn't meant to be a cheap hobby. No regret

  9. They're cheeky buggers hey Peter? I've never encountered them at narra lake but I was "assaulted" once fishing off the point at long reef. Two birds saw me getting some good bream and got right up in my face and were acting very aggressively.

I felt a bit cornered with big waves to my back and these two beasts at my front. I could only get rid of them by going nuts and swinging my rod in the air, which I imagine was a hell of a show for the onlookers

The dam pelicans made me look like a goose :074:

  10. Hey Clem,

those striped fish that you fish for at your feet are called mado's and are not much good for live baiting, or anything else for that matter!

    Are these the culprits?

    post-4050-1237410769_thumb.jpg

The species predominantly used for live baiting include squid, slimies, bonito, frigates and yellowtail

  11. Hi all,

I've been catching these in the past few days around the mouth of Pittwater.

Are they Mack Tuna or Frigate Tuna (Frigate Mackeral)?

(The bottom fish in the top picture is a Tailor)

    Thanks all

    Ashley

Hey mate, thats gotta be a frigate. A good sized one at that! well done

  12. Good on you for getting out there in poor conditions

"If anyone has any tips on how to get past the pesky small snapper I'm all ears.

Bigger hooks just resulted in lost bait. "

Generally a bigger bait is attractive to a bigger fish, although elephants eat peanuts too!
