  1. Cheers, I did actually pick up a metal lure but didn't get it out the box this time, I've never really fished with lures so I never feel confident with them. Saying that I'm not all that confident with bait 😂 maybe I'll give it a shot next trip
  2. Update: genuinely enjoyed the taste of the salmon, cooked a piece in butter to try it out and was really nice. The rest has just gone into a spicy pasta for work this week. Happy days
  3. Got out yesterday evening to try catch a feed off the beach. plan was to try catch some yellowtail from Kiama harbour and take them to Bombo beach instead of paying for pillies from the servo as usual. After a hour or so with no yellowtail in the bucket a trip to the servo it was and a pack of pillies, oh well at least I tried. long story short I got to the beach by 4pm and had caught 8 salmon and a decent bream by 6. So much fun. Bled one salmon out and it's filleted in the fridge ready for dinner tonight. Thought I'd give it a go and make my own mind up on wether it's nice or not. i Forgot my brag mat but managed to take a couple of photos with the salmon. 🤙🏼
  4. Yea I keep meaning to get myself some pipe for that exact purpose, just always forget until I'm back on the beach, I'll be gutted if I break my real because I didn't get hold of some pipe Thou. never really thought I'd break anything just the annoyance of trying to get the rod down deep enough. but now you've said that I will make sure I do.
  5. After just moving down to Kiama downs I bought myself a new beach rod from Windang bait and tackle, grabbed a few pillies and went down to jones beach in the hope of getting a salmon or tailor. Didnt start off very well as my bait was just getting dragged sideways and back to the shore even with my biggest weight on the rig so gave up there and had a Look on maps to see if I could find a more sheltered beach. Decided on Kendall's beach just down the road. Got there at about 8:30. 2nd cast and before I had the rod in the sand I was on. Been so long since I've had a fish putting up a decent fight that I was over the moon with pulling in a salmon. Strangely the rest of my rig below the hook was gone, so re rig and go again little bit of a wait but then another salmon, a fair bit smaller but still great fun. There was a park by the beach so invited the mrs down with my 2 year old daughter. We had a quick picnic breakfast before I'd wind in and take her to the park, managed to get a flattie with them there prob around the 35cm mark. All in all a very enjoyable morning on a beautiful beach.

    Rose bay

Out on my mates boat tomorrow at rose bay, normally a land based fisho targeting whiting bream flatties salmon etc, no idea where to head but gonna take a selection of baits and hopefully stumble across a few fish. From what I've read depths of around 30m is good for flatties and if I see any bust ups chuck a lure at it. I'm confident with catching whiting so if all else fails I'll try catch some whiting for the table. Anyway that's the "plan" hopefully be putting a post up tomorrow worth posting. 🤞🏻
  7. Legend cheers for that, hopefully see me posting soon having caught some nice flatties on the poddies 😜
  8. Hey mate can I ask how you catch your poddies? Nice feed there 😍
  9. We bought the boat yesterday and the guy selling was great showed us how to put it in/out of the water and explained everything brilliantly, after exchanging the $$ and paperwork we had a go at launching and went relatively smoothly, was very quiet at the ramp thou out on the Hawkesbury... might not be so easy if there is a que of boats up our ass 👀
  10. Absolute legend, you genuinely have just helped us out so much. Thanks for taking the time to write that, will have my phone at hand and reference to this when we’re at the ramp. Honestly can’t thank you enough
  11. Hey raiders just after a bit of advise on boat ramps. My best mate bought a boat (awesome for me 😂) we both have boat licenses but have only ever rented boats from boab boats so have no experience launching our own boat from a ramp. Was just wondering if anyone knew of any ramps in the eastern suburbs that are maybe easier to launch from than others? The one at botany is probably the closest to us. It might be that they’re all the same but no harm in asking the raiders
  12. Cheers for the reply mate, we were thinking that just weren’t sure. He’s seen the boat and is definitely gonna buy it if all is well on the water.
  13. Just a quick one raiders, my best mate is looking at buying a boat (second hand) we both are unsure if it’s normal to go out on a ‘test drive’ before parting with the money?
  14. I tend to release most fish I catch, normally because I've already eaten or have dinner planned but have had trevally whiting and now salmon that I've caught and whiting is easily my fave. I did take a flathead home once but messed the filleting up so bad that I had to throw it away and felt terrible about it.
  15. That was a good watch, looked like a great day fishing.... and very helpful with the bloodline. Thanks for the advise much appreciated ??
  16. Cheers mate..... You reckon fish cakes are the way to go with salmon then?
  17. That used to be the case but we became parents and that's put a temporary block on that, at least till she's old enough to hold her own rod haha
  18. Definitely, forgot the hours spent in the cold as soon as I was hooked on.
  19. Hey raiders, been a few sessions of late without anything to report but still made the effort to go out tonight before the wind picks up. Went to maroubra at about 7pm with no preparation just my surf rod and servo pillies in the hope of feeling a bend in the rod. Tried a spot in the middle of the beach at what I hoped was a gutter but not a touch in an hour so walked to the south end by the rocks as a mate said he's had success there in the past and again nothing, told the mrs I'd be home empty handed again And started to walk back up the beach towards where I was parked. Obviously as a fisherman i had to have one last cast..... which resulted in my rod crashing over but no hook up, so a text to the mrs saying one more last last cast.... then bang I was on, put a serious bend in the rod and could see the fish jumping out, adrenaline was pumping! Got it in and was over the moon with a 63cm salmon! Wish I could have stayed and caught some more but had to get home. Over the moon to have a bend back in the rod ????
  20. Absolute diamond geezer. Thanks for that info mate i will check conditions and get out as soon as I can and give it a bash. Might take a walk up there now and see if I can find the the holes for the rod, make it easier for when I'm walking up at first light. Will post a report if I hook up. Thanks again ??
  21. Cheers mate I'll give that a go, very much appreciated. Hopefully over the next week I'll be posting about a nice catch or 2 ??
  22. Hey sorry to just jump in on this topic but I'm desperate for my first kingy and was wondering if any of these sujjested spots are accessible for a land based fisho like myself? ??

    Whiting

Was flathead fishing the other day and got chatting to a fellow fisho who swore whiting are the best eating fish, so naturally I got some live worms and headed to the beach to hopefully find out for myself. Caught 2 whiting going 32 and 35 cm and left as the beach filled up with families. Took them home, watched a few videos on you tube on how to fillet them and had lunch. All I can say is I owe that man a beer, what a lovely feed. Will defo be taking one or two home when I catch them in the future. Hopefully I'll improve my filleting skills as you may see for yourself in the picture attached..... happy new year oh if anyone knows a better way of cooking whiting than salt pepper and fry that'd be awesome
  24. Happy Xmas and new year fishos. Quick back story, I've been doing a lot of fishing over the last year and have had some success, caught a decent salmon from maroubra, tailor from coledale, good bream, whiting and flatties from Yarra bay and a lot of undersized fish from parsley bay. But I've had a lot of blanks in between a few catches. Im happy that I can catch bream whiting and flatties quite consistently by getting live worms and yabbies and moving about to find the fish but I feel i have to do more than just cast half a pillie on a running sinker into the drink and hoping for the best when I'm targeting salmon, tailor, kings ect. I really like maroubra beach and fancy my chances at finding a gutter there but it's so busy with swimmers and surfers from first light, I don't expect anyone's secret spots but any help with what to aim at when targeting these and if there's any way of maybe burleying in the surf conditions? If anyone knows a beach that is less busy than maroubra that could fish well that would be a dream. I don't mind driving a couple of hours for morning of fishing. Sorry for the essay, and thanks for any help.
