  1. post-4239-1206926993_thumb.jpgG,day fellow fishraiders

thought it was about time i put a quick post up.

Bugged the :wife: all day yesterday to head out for a scenic cruise / swim in our beautiful harbour.

plan was to get a couple of hours fishing in sunday arvo :1prop:

Mrs gathered some gear together ,food , drink, towels , ect whilst i screwed the down rigger on and grabed a rod :biggrin2:

Got to tunks around 4ish to find it still fairly busy mainly boats leaving.

Headed straight to balmoral and picked up 2 squid within 10 mins.

cruised over to clifton to find at least 8 other boats all anchored.

headed pretty quick over to yellow marker , thats when the mrs asked me to slow it down as we were bouncing around a bit (plan was working)

I backed off to idle grabed 1 of the squid from the tank and it was in the water in a heartbeat.

within 2 minutes the 6500 was screaming and the tug of war was on, this fish was going hard taking lots of line, i gave the drag a few clicks to slow it down to no avail , then ping line goes slack :(

quickly rigged up and got the other squid in as fast as i could , as soon as it hit the water

i was on again and this one was not getting away, quick fight and a nice king was on the deck and coming home for dinner.

Had no more bait so went for a quick swim and kicked back for an hour.

    Then headed home.

All in all a lovely afternoon on the harbour.

  2. Grab the herring jigs from any major shopping outlet $2.99 , youll be pulling in 3 at a time. 2 easy though the jigs dont last to long.

    Cheers

  3. At the ramp at 6 and straight off to middle head in search of squid, it poured just about the whole way, and we looked quite pathetic 3 of us sitting under a small umbrella in the :1badmood: to try and catch squid. Once again we failed to do this as we have in the past 3 outings in the new boat. (no idea what the problem is, never had this trouble before! Can anyone help me!!!)

Luckily we found a patch of baby yakkas around manly and got 15+ of them (not before getting twice as many small leatherjackets, Any tips for avoiding them?)

So we went and fished a normally producing spot for a number of species to not even get a hit from a king and only catch an undersize trevally, couple of flounder and too many small snapper. The guys in a small tinny next to us got smoked once and landed another king but we didnt have a touch on the live or dead yakkas. Tried around Watsons, and a couple of spots up Middle Harbour for not much, so released the remaining live yakkas and went home!

    Cheers

    Josh

Josh for starters i reckon the squid around the usual spots (spit bridge ect ) have gone off (bigtime), this time last year i was alone pulling minimum 12 every outing , im not sure why its so hard now, wether its (fished out) from all the boats that gather there now , or all the rain we have had over the last few months has put them off , who knows (maybe the bomb steve dropped might have killed em all :074: ) lol

    (What do other raiders think)

You can get nice big southern calamari around the rocky shore over near balmoral near were the yakas are, though it can get pretty rough and very snagy and you may lose a few jigs.

As for the kings i have been getting a couple or more most outings , but nothing like this time last year ,they have been a lot harder as well, why im not sure.

Im sure other raiders may have been cleaning up. (maybe them raiders can inlighten us)

anyway mate keep going at it as you will only get better

    cheers

    Guy

Yeah man that was me that downrigged your anchor rope at the wedding cake.

I could have gone a lot closer by going between you and the cake , but thought id do the right thing and stay on your outside.

P.S i didnt realize you had let out far to much rope.

better luck next time on the kings , maybe you should try downrigging. :074:
