  1. Nice work on the kingy bro

p.s nothing worse than weekend wariors in million dollar cruises going flat chat and missing you only by meteres , when there got plenty of room either side, and then giving a smarta@#^ wave :ranting2:

  2. Damn, thought I was on a sure thing there!

Never mind, they're still worth it, even with a big mess.

I am nowhere near as proficient at catching them as you obviously are. Usually I just get them as bycatch.

On the eating side, I usually cut the mantle up into calamari rings,(which freeze and thaw quite well), and use the head and tenticles for bait.

Caught this fella last year on half a head exactly this way. He went 1050mm and weighed 12kg.

    Cheers,

Yeah cant beat the squid head for kingy bait, :1yikes: Mate that is 1 nice fish.

Ill land one that size (1 day) i hope.

  3. Nice catch cflife.

Can't help noticing you have no ink in the bucket.

And on your previous post you had them spread out on the deck, again with no ink.

On the weekend I caught a rather large model calamari and carefully let it squirt all it's ink ( or so I thought) into the sea, before slipping it into the ice slurry with the fish. As has happened before, got home to find a lovely black mess in the esky, and a couple of darker than usual flatties.

Do you have some special technique you use to get around this?

    Any advice very welcome.

    Cheers,

    Rick

    No special technique Rick

Mate i get inked every time i go out , the boat cops it as well (Full on) when the squid, cuttle squirt in the tank the water is quickly recurculated , with them squid in the photo i was trying to get a photo laying them on the centre console seat ,stacking them on top of each other they kept sliding off slimy little suckers,so i just laid them out on the floor theres more to the right that you cant see in the photo.

I usally slip through car lovers on the way home and give the boat a wash.

    Cheers Mate.

  4. P.S the fellas that were in the centre console squiding that offered us help THANKS HEAPS i should of taken it ended up drifting a mile away trying to wave u guys down. thought we were going to have to stay the night. :074:

    Hi Cliffe,

Well done on the squid mate.

It was me in the Centre Console, I was watching use and thought that you were down there trying for a Jew :074: . After a while one of the boys said I reckon there still broken down!! We were gonna give it 10 minutes more and come down but you came up so alls good.

Ended up getting into a heap of squid as well.

    G,day dan

mate i thought id seen you somewere (browsing through these posts )

just fixed the boat ,was no drama, battery went a little weak (from running lights ,ffinder, livie tank, ect makes the starter motor drop down.

just put another batt in and rewired ffinder, btank to it.

    All good now.

p.s you snap locking your squid and freezing them for kings or eating em.

Ive never eaten 1 before, i got over 200 frozen.

I like squiding as much as fishing but i cant imagine catch and release (espesially after copping an ink squirt or 2) have to start cooking em.

Cheers bro see you out there

    Guy

  5. That's it Robbie, Dr Evil is behind it all! I was wondering why the boat was chasing this guy in a car on the water. I don't know if it was James Bond or Maxwell Smart in that funny car. I think they were trolling at the time. Although, now I think about it, it could have been Jewgaffer? :gun_bandana:

    post-4381-1191672269_thumb.jpg

Now it makes some sort of sense! But for what reason would the International Force of EVIL be in Cronulla?

    Mmmmmm I wonder?

Perhaps they are planning a super large sturgeon fish farm for caviar? It could be worth zillions!

    :074:

    :Funny-Post: lol

  6. That is a heap of squid, do they ink up a bit and make a mess,or is that all part of the fun of squidding.. Good catch.. Cheers Ray R....

    G,day Ray

mate dodging the ink squirts and copping a few is all part of the fun , i take my boat through car lovers car wash on the way home.

    Cheers

  7. great effort again  , mate it was really helpful on the advise you gave us last night, we didnt do too well but we really appreciated meeting and seeing the catch for ourselves.

the live bait tank set up is a great idea and i think i will set it up the same way yours is.

hope to see you out on the water again .

    cheers noel

    G,day Noel

mate you can set a similar live bait tank up without drilling any holes in your boat.

Let me know iff you need any tips (very easy )

Better luck next time on the fishing , see you out there.

    Cheers

    Guy

  8. post-4239-1191598085_thumb.jpgG,day again

went for another squid sesh after work Fri.

My brother in law came along for company

started off pretty slow for the 1st half an hour or so , then craig hooked 1 and droped back down only to hook another almost instantly , that one also came up with a wingman so i sat my jig no more than 20cmunder the water and wamo it was on.

We did several drifts back and fourth and kept on landing em, it became a bit of a comp as craig kept in the lead (beginers luck) :074:

I was reeling the jig in for another drift when wack i thought i jagged a monster , had a tiny run and would you belive it a bloody tailor on a yozuri around 33cm :074: thats a 1st for me.

Starter motor on boat started playing up bigtime :mad3: That put us out for about an hour and a half, finally got boat started after pulling bits and pieces off with the worst tools ive ever used (lesson)

done a couple more drifts for a few more ( i hit the lead ) :074:

    ended up with 33.

    Craig 14 me 19.

By the way my brother in law Craig is now hooked

P.S the fellas that were in the centre console squiding that offered us help THANKS HEAPS i should of taken it ended up drifting a mile away trying to wave u guys down. thought we were going to have to stay the night. :074:

  9. Bloody ripper......top effort mate,,,, as said lots of valuable bait there.

How many times you get inked and how the hell do you not get ink in the tank and on the deck.

    cheers james

    G,day

James belive me theres plenty of ink throughout the boat ,and in my fingernails (lol)

Mate recurculating 75 lrt tank keeps the water fairly clean.

    Cheers

  10. post-4239-1191540516_thumb.jpgpost-4239-1191540577_thumb.jpgGot out of work early yesterday :yahoo: headed straight to my favorite little squid spot in the harbour

kicked off squiding around 6 ish packed up 930ish ended up with 37 , including 6 cuttle , most fairly small good bait size , snapped locked em , dropped em off at mums in city as i have no more freezer room :wife: aint happy

lots of squid around was jigging up to 4 on a single 50 metre drift.

All in all good to be out in amongst it , cant wait for the kings.
