  1. Pittwater, drift with yabbies make sure your bait is drifting on the floor and you cant go wrong....
  2. Kicked off the summer with a 4.5 hour session at Barrenioey armed with 150 yabbies and 3 mates, target species was the good old Whiting and flattys and we didn’t miss.......It was a surprisingly good session for the lack of tidal movement and zero wind we encountered between 6am and 10:30am. I usually fish the bay for the same species only because its closer but every now and then..... I really want to fish I head to Barrenjoey and it never disappoints.....
  3. Wow that whiting is up there with the biggest I've seen!!
  4. Hi All, Just wondering if anyone owns a portable jump starter that would be able to jump start at minimum a 50 horsepower outboard? And if so do you recommend them? (as in do they do what they say they can do?) I have been thinking about getting the HYPER PS for around $55 (which is multi functional)
  5. I've been hearing and reading rumors about Rosebay holding some massive whitings on the flats. So I decided last night I would go in search of these beasts armed with none other then fat juicy blood worms....It was a bit choppy and blowing a fresh breeze around the 27km mark so not the best conditions to eye out the sometime fussy nibbles of the great whiting. We hit the shallows at 9pm and it took a good 45 min before bang and the delicate tip of the rod dipped and as I picked it up it curled like the maccas arches we were dreaming about before hand. No mistaking it, I knew it was a whiting and I knew it was above average. I proudly landed a 37cm fat stonker of a whiting. The rumors are true they are huge, it wasn't long after that I lost a slightly larger model at the engine as I tried to whisk it out (with no net) stupid I know but I got to excited. 11pm and 2 breams later we called it a night with still half a bag of blood worms to go...the wind would'nt let up and we were rocking mad but happy to live the rumors...will do it again but this time I will be making sure the wind is non existent. I hope the pictures uploaded
  6. I went out fishing on Saturday with the aim to get a newby onto some nice table fish for him to take home to the family and hopefully enough for my family as well. Target species Whiting and finish off with some bream. Bad start to the day local bait shop "no blood worms" , your kidding!!....... $10 of your best frozen prawns will have to do......we hit the local whiting grounds at around 6am (approx 500m opposite the Novotel), weather was slightly overcast and the track was a choppy 5 with the boat going one direction when anchored and the baits floating off in the other direction.....not cmfortable but fishable, well well the prawns did the job A ok and with a dozen whiting landed, 1 taylor and 1 bream in 3 hours we decided to call it quits on the whiting and move on and spend the last hour chasing bream so off to the bream grounds up and down the kurnell penisula to Towra point found a nice patch of sand surounded by weed (sea grass) burleyed up and first two in the boat were trevally, 1 of which bounced off the side and swam away to play another day. We preceded to land 4 bream one of which I have on video 35cm model and the other 3 tipping the ruler at 30cm. pulled up stupms at 10:30 am with enough fish to split 2 ways,I've also posted a picture of a previous trip of half a whiting, this whiting was split two ways but not by my doing......
  7. Here are some tips from some body who has learnt the hard way. always keep an eye out on your trailers wheel bearings actually bearing buddies are a must if not fitted get them fitted, invest in a grease gun and freely lubricate, steering arms, tilt arms and anywhere else you see a grease tit, invest in battery Jumper and spare fuel tank all of the above have caught me out in imy 15 years of boating but for the last 5 years no issues....... Have fun
  8. Definitely will not be going there tonight.......I honestly feel sick.........I know ignorance is no excuse but there were boats everywhere in this location all clearly fishing not to mention even further past the white buoys some of the kayakers were in amongst the mangroves..Surely the Maritime police need to get out there and police it as well......Once again I apologise for my stupidity.
  9. Yep plenty of Burly I actually believe thats what kept them around and one of the bream we caught when trying to retrieve the hook, pooped and you can tell he'd been feeding up on the burly However all bream were between 25cm and 30 with maybe 2 throw backs, Im hoping as the sun goes the size gets bigger will be trying that theory tonight. back to your question: We caught the one sting ray and yes the chicken caught just as much as the Yabbies. I have just confirmed I will be heading out there this afternoon so will let you know how that goes.....
  10. HI All, I'm a creature of habbit and don't usually like to try new spots unless I know they are going to produce. Sunday fishabout was something completely new. Firstly I usually fish into the night from 5pm to 10pm and 98% of that time it would be around the groynes kurnell area and don't move much if at all. So when I launched on Sunday morning at around 5am and headed towards Towra Pt I didn't have much confidence in doing anywhere near as good as I usually do. I was right and fishing was slow and resulted in many moves.......to name some....... the middle of the bay, to the runway , to the stix, to the oil warf each spot 30 minutes with a total of 1 Whiting, One Bream and one flounder, the final move was around 8:30am we headed down towards Towra Pt from the Oil warf, this time we turned left just before Towra Pt and just after Kurnell Peninsula into Quibray Bay and parked on clear sand bottom with weed to the left and weed to the righ of the boat each side had clear sand of around 30m to the weed beds.....Wow 8:35am going out tide, sun high in the sky armed with Yabbies and chicken Breast we landed 18 Bream that we could keep all between 25cm and 30cm and one awsome Blueswimmer 9:45am pulled up stumps and went home with great smile on the dial can't wait to hit that spot at dusk...... No Pics but expecting them all cleaned today and in the fridge maybe able to put one up this afternoon.....
  11. Hi Raiders, I have been hearing that Botany bay needs a good down pour to get things to hot up? If so, now that that seems to be happening how long after the rain before the supposed hotting up takes place? Is the above generally true? As Im finding the bay at least 50% slower then other years.
  12. Bait for the bream flat head were caught on chicken breast and prawns, we were also armed with fresh squid and octopus for jewies but that didnt really happen
  13. I usually fish the bay and despite the lack lusture reports going around, the plan was set during the week with my dad and nephew to hit the Hawkesbury early sat morning. Try a spot for some bream during the run in tide and then hit another spot for some jewies on the runout. Everything was going to Plan, we hit the beach just on 6am spot located just before flint and steel, started a burly trail which consisted of 2 89cent cans of catfood and chicken pellets and it was a matter of seconds before we were on to a nice 32cm bream. Before I can rig my rod, Nephew was on as well to a Breambo just on the keeper side of 25cm. I finnally got to fish 45min after arrival prior to that I was re-rigging and baiting up my nephews rod because the fish he caught swallowed the whole thing down. After 3 hrs of inefficient fishing we managed to boat 10 bream keepers, 3 flat head just over pan sized 35 to 37cm and 2 tailor. Lost another nice flatty at the boat(at least we saw what it was)got busted off once and bitten off twice, bounced back numerous undersized bream. Must say one of the most enjoyable sessions I have ever had. We managed to drag ourselves away at peak high tide and headed to Flint and Steele for a jewy bash. in 30 min we landed another Flatty, 2 undesized Snapper and most likely got busted off by some sought of monster ray as it made a mini run at first and then it was a larthgic fight to the back of the boat where it just sat there and didn't budge and till ping!! gone....We only got to fish Flint and Steel 45 min before the old man claimed full time!! he wanted to go home, I cant say I was disapointed but I know we would of done ok if we stayed...ummm previewing topic I can't see the picture??
  14. Hey Keflapod, Along time off the seen for me buts It's good to see your on to the Chicken big time now, a lot cheaper then worms so when did you finnally convert, Just curious was it our conversation a year or so ago? (Issa)
  15. Hi Fisho's went for a late evening scoot hit Kurnell baths at around about 7:30, the weather was fantastic, hardly any wind and the water was like an ice rink, armed with only chicken breast and Nippers, we tossed all 4 rods in and waited for a good 15 minutes before we landed one. It was a great night to be out on the water we had to work hard (not really we moved twice) for 9 Bream all around the 28cm to 30 cm mark except for one fat Blue nose that went around the 35cm. To my suprise in the shallows at around 300 meters from shore the rod buckles over, I quickly grab it and new it wasn't a bream at first I thought big whiting but when it it got closer to the boat it went bollistic and really gave the lite (8lb) tackle bream rods some zzzzzz, zzzz so then I thought definetly one of those pesty sand species (banjo, sting ray, etc) but no to my delighted suprise it was a 35cm Snapper, couldn't belive it have never come close to a 30cm model in this spot yet alone 35. Netted it into the boat and sticking out of its mouth was a chompped fish tail (couldn't tell what species) any way this was caught on chicken breast. We fished till 10:30pm and final total was 9 bream 1 snapper I will post photos once I work out how this blackberry crap works
  16. Hi All, Sorry no pictures but I will try and make it as informative as possible. Went out Monday evening hit Silver beach about 7:30pm, conditions were very choppy and windy, tide was on the way out to a final low at around 9:30ish, bait was the trusty Chicken breast and had to get Servo prawns as a side kick rather then the usual yabbies (none left by the time I arrived at the bait store). It was very slow for the first 2 hours only landing a pair of bream both nice fat ones at around the 32cm mark (on chicken breast). At around 9:30ish the bite was on now I don't know if this coincided with the the bottoming out of the tide or the sudden drop of wind and I mean all gone, no wind and no chop, very calm, excellent, comfortable, lake like fishing conditions? All four rods were hit it was an experiance that I haven't had before, I had a rod tangle with another one when I was pulling my fish in, I turned to my dad to help but he was on and bringing his fish in, so I continued to bring my fish in with another line being towed along. Once I got my fish in the boat I gave it to my dad to un hook (his job) while I tried to untangle the line, this wasn't easy as there was a fish tugging away on this as well and then the other rod went off so my dad dropped the fish and hook into the bucket and preceded to bring in that fish, I finally un-tangled and pulled in the last of the 4 rods. All four rods were in the boat and hooked with fish, it was a bit of a mess and frustration started little arguments between me and my dad as the aim was to get a baited hook out there as soon as possible and I thought the best thing to do was to snip the line and re-do the hook as he was removing the hooks to slow.... it took a good 30 minutes to get all 4 back out there because the bite continued and most fish were swallowing the whole kit and so the quickest and humane thing was to snip the hook and re-do the trace and hook.... when you got the chance.... This was great and in no time(so it felt 2 hrs later) we had 14 keepers all bream (not by design) however not one of those other 12 were over the 32cm mark, they were all replicas of each other at around the 28 to 30cm mark, this was the smallest average catch under these condtions (time, place and bait) Most fish were caught on the prawns and this was the difference i beleive in the size average, where as I normally catch the bigger models on the chicken but for some reason the chicken wasn't much of a hit during the hot bite....
  17. Hi Folk's, Been a while since I've posted actually been a while since I've been on the water, work is a little bit demanding these day's. I actually got a call as I got to the boat ramp to help with an emergancy change (IT talk) after explaining where I was they were happy to leave me alone. By the way, nice boat ramp foreshore road, dropped the boat got to silver beach at about 7pm and it had become apparant that the wind was not going anywhere and proved conditions remain very difficult thus almost impossible to tell if your bait was hit and taken yet alone touched. Infact the 2 35cm plus models (bream) had only been found out when I noticed the line had slackened and needed tightening while tightening the line I felt a dead kind of wieght the first time it happened I was swearing that it was an octupos or a crab as there was not the usual bream tug but to my suprise I had a nice fat bream on there. funny thing during one of the quite periods I commented to my dad how I have never caught a flat head in this part of botany bay and within 5 minutes he landed a nice one just ripe at around 40cm, he looked at me and said you still haven't caught one......put that in your report. well we decided at around 9pm after a 2 hour session in the shallows we decided to move towards the sticks however we had a flat battery and just as well I had a jump starter on board, the boat started and we decided to go straight to the boat ramp with only 2 hours of fisihing done (better then none) We went home with a final tally of one flatty ,4 bream, a quarter bag of yabbies, half a bag of worms and a flat battery
  18. Hi Folks, After bashing up Botany Bay for the last couple of weeks for some nice bream decided to go out to the Hawkesbury to my trusty spot at Flint and Steel for a Jewfish session, Well F & S has never let me down and the aim was to acquire some fresh squid and fish the run out tide late in the arvo, well the day was running to plan arrived at Brooklyn boat ramp around 1:20 and arrived at F&S 1:40 ish landed pretty much on spot and baits out on 3 rods and well it was pretty much apparent there was pickers galore as soon as the fresh clean white strips of squid hit the bottom they were literally been scavenged by toddlers. The thought was to fish strips till the run out picks up and the boat arse is fully pulled towards lion island and then we would go whole squid, this eventually happened and it wasn’t long before I had a solid bounce of the rod tip but no run. I picked up the rod and gave it a quick jerk upwards as if setting hooks and to my surprise I was on to something solid, I immediately called it called it a flatty and boy what a flatty it was I really can’t do it justice by describing it with out photo’s all we had on board was a Gaff and mid size net , well there was no way it was going to get it to the net it was just thrashing around and it was to large and we agreed we didn’t want to Gaff it just anywhere because it was minimum and I mean minimum 90cm beauty (without getting greedy or challanged for that matter) We wanted to land it purely to share photos with and gaffing it in the corner of the mouth just was to difficult and it escaped into the depth before I could get the camera out since I had the camera and I was holding the rod, one had the Gaff and the other had the landing net. Oh well that was awesome. Two shovel nose sharks later we were starting to think this would be one rare occasion we go home with nothing. The squid was just not doing it for us and then just like that while reeling a bait in with nothing something jumps on it and well it was a nice Octopus sent from God, after some hard wok we had a stripped leg on and out into the drink and not even 5 minutes later solid hit and run and the results as you can see are attached nothing big but very nice to get one and go home with a tasty feed the flat head in comparsion dwarfs the Jew…. Cheers PS there were a lot of trailers parked on the side of the freeway yesterday that had done their bearings, this is very common on hot days and it seems people simply take for granted caring for their trailers and that is very dangerous for everyone....
  19. Hi Keflapod, Firstly thanx for the reply and what a coincidence, I had read your post and thought man I would love to know an early morning spot that produced a mixed bag like yours and just like yourself I seem to catch 3 to 1 of who ever else comes along with me. I would be more than happy to share the finer details with you, I have not been fishing the bay long and due to the success of this spot I really don’t try to explore much and once again like yourself my wife does not like it when I go out at night but I have no choice because I can’t find them in those numbers during the morning. You would be very surprised at what I use for bait and most likely know the spot that I fish. The depth is generally anywhere from 2 to 4 meters of water. However as for the finer details you can email me on issay@live.com.au and I will be happy to swap my finer details with yours.
  20. Hi fellow raiders and anonymous guests, after planning a trip and completing final preparations for a Saturday fish (24th of Jan) it was a very disapointing but a no brainer of a descision to cancel due to gale force winds, which were a welcome cooling to the 40 degree heat we were experiancing. Oh well postponed 24 hours and we were off to an evening of no wind and no work worries the next day so arrive at Foreshore road 8:30 pm and head off to spot X (described in one of my earlier posts). fished the last 45 minutes of the incoming tide for half a dozen bream and then the runout for another 4 hours. The time just flew by we bagged 19 bream ranging from 28cm to 38cm, fought all the way to the boat with 2 shovel nose or banjo sharks not to sure which good fun though, we had multiple hook ups it was a great night. could of bagged many more if we had all our lines in the water more often. What I mean by that is a lot of time was wasted re-rigging hooks as 25% of the time the caught fish were left with the hooks all the way down Im not a big fan of pulling a hook out of a fishes insides I prefer to get it later. Anyway here is a pick of the results
  21. Hi All, Been fishing the flats around Silver beach and have been frustrated by the amount of algie that get pulled up every time I cast, is this a temporary thing and if so how long before it disappears its been around now for 3 weeks that I have been out, last time being the 11/01/09? anyone know? any information will be much appreciated.
  22. Hi Folks, headed out to Botany on the 11/01/09 at about 6pm motored across to Silver beach at about 6:45pm and parked approx 50meters out from the swim net in shallow water and unfortunately the algie stuff was still around which I'm sure cut our catch in half. armed with only chicken breast we managed to catch 2 Trevally one was about 50cm very nice fight on light gear and the other was around the 35cm mark suprisingly caught in the shallows however I did burly hard with chicken pellets and tuna oil. Other then those 2 we did manage 9 legal bream with one going 40cm. I cant wait until that algie stuff disappears. I also find Silver beach to produce very well at dusk into night have had absolutely no luck there during the middle of the day have never tried early morning, Is early morning any good there for bream? The above mentioned bait and location very simple and gurantee a good catch most evenings on a run in tide and I'm not talkinbg one or two fish either usually double figures I hope this helps any new starters out there and will be interested to know how you go. Obviously the more effort put in (burly, differing baits the better) Cheers, BSJ
  23. Hi Red, I appreciate your passion, I felt very unsafe out there not because of the conditions but because of the contempt shown by the people who have the power to allow something like this to be deemed approprietly safe....
