  1. Bought an SX40LC a couple of weeks ago. I believe that the improvements on casting distance is hard to see. I find it hard to believe that you can get upto 30% more as advertised. I do feel however that the lure flys more consistently straight through the air than a normal SX40 and of course that does improve on distance but if you can do that with a normal SX40 then its about the same I lost that lure recently to a good bream up at berowra waters last monday ..Bought the same one today and also got myself a SX43 ...I havent given it a swim yet but once i de-virginise it i'll let you know Jeff
  2. Hey Raiders I have been out there again on a few occasions for some quick flicks simply just having fun in my spare time...I seem to have more now that my is pursuing a career change and is studying and working at the same time newayz below are some of the results Good flattie 50cm...lost the lure on the next cast as i didnt check the leader and then something big hit it de-virginized my new atomic hardz shad some more photos Almost lost that atomic hardz to a 49cm flattie bream caught on a new SX40LC another on the same lure (BTW lost this lure last monday on a visit to Berowra to a good bream bought a new one today ) Went out this afternoon for the sun down and caught heaps of flatties but below was a standout nice 35cm whiting
  3. That lure is a Smith Camion Magnum SR in the above photos. I was able to get out there again today from 10:30 for a bit less than 2 hrs. Fish were still on the chew as like yesterday i was able to catch a good number of whiting, bream and flathead. The whiting were definitely out numbering the bream and the flatties and they were all around the 30 cm mark also. I pulled the hooks on two big bream They got my heart racing on their multiple long runs...but they both won today ....I dont know if its me but i almost always pull the hooks on big bream when im using smaller HB's with size 16 trebles. After they have had a few long runs and changes of direction the hooks pull on their last efforts for freedom. After hookup and once I know I have control of the fish I loosen the drag....but as today the hooks pulled TWICE. I guess I need to be more patient?.. Does anyone else tend to have this problem with small HB's with small trebles? Anyways...pics are below of some fish from this sesh. All in all a great day out there... lots of fish = lots of fun . All fish were either self release or release by me! 31cm one of the plentiful nice sized whiting flattie almost took my lure
  4. I hooked a flattie early in the sesh with a hard body and it keeped working so i ended up stickin with it the whole sesh I must agree HC has been out fishing IC of late. I definitely fish IC more than HC (i guess its just a confidence thing?) but if the trend persists of late i think i have to follow where the fish are and learn more area's in HC
  5. After a slow last two days at IC decided to fish HC this evening for better results. Ended up with a variety of bream, flatties and whiting. The highlights being a 33cm bream that fought like it was a demon...love it when bream take those long runs . Another high light of the session was hitting a school of whiting averaging bout 30+cm. It was like a whiting every cast for a moment. Great fun on light tackle. All fish were released for others to enjoy . 27cm bream 33cm bream good whiting well over 30cm
  6. fished IC land based at around 11am today. I havent had much luck of late and it started off the same...not even a touch while flicking different HB's for about 45mins. Tied on an old favorite lure and flicked it around for a few casts...I was about to call it quits then suddenly got hit by a small bream 29cm. Didnt give any decent runs but atleast a fish to get my confidence going again. Decided to stay out and luckly i did. Next cast I was on to a good fish...made my new LUVIAS sing a few times and I as i caught sight of the fish I saw it was a whiting and a possible PB for me also. He was well hooked and was going no where.. It was a PB for me on lures and went 39cm . I was thinking to myself finally this area starting to fish like im used too. Next cast and im on...from its long first run and how it arched around i knew i was on to a nice bream...I was thinking finally the first decent bream for my new reel. BUT it wasnt to be as I counted my chickens too early. After another long run it arched back towards me and then spat the hooks...I have to admit it was my fault...didnt keep the tension on when i came back towards me Finished off with the smallest ever whiting i have caught on a lure and another bream 25cm. The bite shut down again as the clouds dissipated so i called it quits. All fished were released. All in all a good flick at IC
  7. DAMN...now thats one BIG bass. and you got smoked by something even bigger than that!! The bass in that dam seem like they are on steroids Well done on pulling the monster out from its snag!
  8. didnt have a ruler on me but i estimate that the bream was just over 25cm and the whiting would have been just under 30cm I have been able to get out for some quick flicks again in IC (when i mean quick...<30 mins from leaving home and getting back home) while walking my dog again in the arvo...I scored a nice flattie a couple of days ago again no ruler but from the pic it lines up to my rod at about 40 cm and scored another one just then...bout 15 mins ago. No pic for this however it was slightly smaller than the one above.
  9. Caught those fish off of Henley Marine Drive close to Rodd Point. Walked the dog this morning (my actual dog not the lure fishing style ) around Rodd Point and was able to make a few casts over the rocky area..Wind was already blowing enough to be annoying . Was aiming to crack a decent bream off of the surface (missing the feeling). Started with a sure catch popper in the wind chopped water and was able to catch a small bream. Walked around to where it was a bit more sheltered but still casting over shallow rocky grounds with some sandy patches. Because the water was less choppy here i decided to give the NW pencil a go again. I was followed, swirled, blooped and smashed several times one of them was definitely a bream of decent size coz when it went for the lure it splashed so much it made my little dog jump and turn it head towards the water (gets my heart pumping also ). However no hookup ...sometimes I find it so hard to believe that with all those trebles they still miss the hooks Oh well looking forward to some more surface action hopefully next time I can turn it into some fish
  10. It was colour 343 Another one of my fav's is colour 303
  11. Fished Iron Cove LB on the start of a rising tide as the sun started to disappear. Started with a NW pencil popper and after a hand full of casts I was only able to get one big swirl but no committed interests. So I decided to tie on my banged up favorite SX 40. I was wading and casting for bout 15 mins then I got hit in shin deep water by a nice little bream...Havent felt one on a HB for a while and even the smaller ones can give u a bit of stick in the shallows once they get side on to you. Waded back in and released the little one with the hope he would grow to 40 cm+ and grace me with his presence some time in near future Fired of the next cast and was slammed again this time by a nice whiting. I quickly released the whiting and was thinking to my self things are starting to fire up. Flicked off the next cast in the similar vicinity and bang im on again this time with something a little more heavier.. Unfortunately this one liked my fav SX 40 more than I did and on its first big run pop went my 4lbs fluro carbon Felt like a decent flattie...oh well cant complain too much...that SX 40 has pulled its fair share of fish. Tight lines raiders. Jeff
  12. Sure you can. I bought it from the tackle store next to the reading cinema's in Auburn. Just a question snag were you fishing Parra River last sunday (30/03/08) in a bing lee boat?? If so that was me and my friend waiting at the ramp for Jack from the above tackle store to arrive. We ended up launching abit after 7AM and fished till about 930AM we fished parra river and HC for a good mixed bag of whiting flatties and decent bream. The mat black Camion SR was killing it that day. I am pretty sure I hooked that 40cm+ bream ive been waiting for. It took the black camion SR right next to the boat and it ran straight under for about 5 to 8 meters then arched out to the back of the boat and ran another 5 m easy...but unfortunately due to my excitement and lack of experience with a fish of this size the nice bream spat the hooks when it headed back for the boat after a long run oh well . Below are some of the fish bagged that day. All were release for others to catch another day!!
  13. The HB in its mouth is a Smith Lure - Camion SR and the colour is a clear green with red eyes. Tends to work well for me in IC especially around the many shallower areas.
  14. Hi Raiders, Was able to fish two 2 hour sessions...first was last Wednesday morning around Rodd point area and the water was calm as. I caught several whiting, flathead and bream but the standout for this session was a nice bream that was caught off of the surface. She took the lure off of the surface with very little splash but a very loud sucking sound. After its first run the bream didnt really fight much more . She measured 34cm to the tip. The second session this week at IC was this afternoon after work. Again caught several fish of the typical species whiting, flathead and bream. Standouts for this session was losing what felt to be a big flattie ...I must have just lip hooked it and it didnt realise it was hooked coz I was just lifting dead heavy weight for a while until it got close and flicked its tail once and spat the lure right back at my face...it was like matrix there for a second with the trebles flying very close past my face in what seemed like slow motion The other standout was a nice breambo that fought like it was going to be a PB for me taking heaps of long runs. It wasnt a PB ...however it definitely gave me a memorable run . She measured 36cm to the tip. All fish were over the two days were released to grow bigger (still hoping one of the bream will find my lure again after growing a few more cms so I can get my 40cm+ )....am I just lucky or do the fish seem like they are bitting more consistently lately?? Anywayz...tight lines raiders! Jeff
  15. Stayed at Vincentia with friends for a little get away over the long weekend. Got there on Friday and fished near the bridge of Moona Moona creek in the afternoon while the was doing groceries for the weekend. My friend was eager to try sp’s for the first time so I tied on a gulp 2” grub in pumpkinseed and it didn’t disappoint. He pulled up his first flattie ever and his first fish on sp. I wish I had a camera to capture the moment but left it in the holiday house . I think he is hooked for life . We ended up catching 5 flatties and they were all around the 40cm mark . Kept 3 for dinner and release the other 2 to fight another day. Next morning woke up about 8AM and walked back down to the creek for a morning flick before every1 woke up. I could see big whiting swimming around but was unable to fool them and I tried everything from sp’s to sx40s and even my new px45 surface lure. I got 1 follow on the px45 and a whiting took a swipe at it but missed . First time I have used a pencil style popper and I must admit I do love the variations of action you can get like walking the dog, ripping, skipping …you name it. Anyway gave up on the whiting and reverted back to sp. Tied on a 2” worm in camo with instant success. A Trevally of about 35cm took it…I say “about 35cm” because as I was walking back to the shore to beach it on the sand but I pulled the hooks on its last effort run for freedom. Oh well it deserved its freedom as it fought so well on 4lbs. On Sunday morning woke up around 8AM for a 1hr session and headed to the Basin at a spot recommended to me by Robeebee. Again I was using the px45 and I was throwing it around areas where there was weed and sandy patches. I got heaps of follows and swipes from stonker bream and elbow slapping whiting but was unable to entice 1 for a hookup . Didn’t catch any this session and was left to think what I was missing. Done my thinking while relaxing on the beach and decided to try scent on the px45. That evening while the sun was setting I went to paradise beach and waded way way out. Again flicking the px45 around but now with some YUM sprayed on it and did it ever make a difference as I ended up catching 6 whiting and 1 bream. The largest whiting was 34cm and the bream was 33cm. Kept 4 for dinner and the rest were released. Out of all the surface hits I must say that the bream was the most exciting visually. It was trying to annihilate the lure with massive splashes and when it finally hooked up all I heard was zzzzzzzzz. All in all it was a great weekend and I was very happy to catch on my new lure and to beat my own surface lure records.
  16. Great bag of fish off of the surface Hodgey Those smith lures look mad. I think i might have to buy one and add it to my slowly but surely growing collection of HB. I just bought one of those PX45 and had a ball with it down at St Georges Basin.
  17. Niiiiiiice bream there!!! especially off the surface Im so jealous ...still havent landed a bream over the 40cm mark but im still casting and waiting for that stonker to hit my lures. Well done on a great session!!
  18. Great first fish for the lil kid!!! bream of 38cm to the fork Well done. Haven't got a kid yet but when I do i'll be taking them fishing for sure and hope they get hooked for life as I did as a lil kid!
  19. Thanks man!! Yeah your right Ron im really getting addicted to using HB's and im starting to use them more than SP's because of the fact i'm getting more bream. I think i need to replace my bum bag to a back pack so I can hold a larger tackle box!!! Hey David, I have been having using them and having a lot of luck around north western part of IC near henley marine drive throughout all the tides. There are still some snags around but the trick I found was to remember where they are. I took a stroll around the bay run when the tides were super low...under 0.15m...and tried to remember the best places to cast during a medium and high tides that would avoid or minimize a snag up. On low tides I usually wade out to knee or thigh depth. Trust me I know what you are talking bout when losing expensive HB's . I have lost a few and I have even went for a swim for 1 also coz I was sick of losing them. It was on a king tide and every1 walking past on the bay run was laughing and shaking there heads coz I striped down to my boxers and waded in upto my shoulder depth to get my SX40 back!!! I even had to duck dive to grab it by the bib coz i was really stuck on some mangrove roots...nuts huh??
  20. Was able to get out in IC for a quick 1 hr flick. My second little session of the year and I was still looking for my first fish for 2008.... and what a way to crack my first fish for 2008. A nice bream 36cm to fork that took my SX40 like it was his/her first meal for 2008. It took several long runs and nearly busted me off on a snag. I also caught a smallish flattie around the 40cm mark. Hopefully a sign for a good year of fishing to come BTW I have been working HBs more of late and I have noticed that the bream strike rate is much higher then when I was using SP. I'm still getting flatties but definitely more bream.
  21. It was great fishing with you mate and you didnt disappoint pulling in that nice bream just like in all your posts!! That breambo literally gave you some STICK Your new Steezzzzzz was definitely given a workout. Im sure I'll catch you out there again!!
  22. Its always great to teach some one to use plastics and to see them land there first SP fish!!!...I think IC and hen n chicken this summer is going to go off for plastic first timers to get hooked on the sport!!!
  23. I braved the weather this evening for a quick flick in IC. Arrived at city end of IC bridge at 730PM and tied on a small R2S popper. Ive been trying to catch a legal bream on poppers in IC for a weeks now (mainly using sure catch poppers) and I have had heaps of follows and hits but very little hookups and all were undersize. This evening was different and I was able to catch my first legal breambo on a popper. She went approx 30 cm. I was very very lucky coz after its spectacular smashing of the lure it took a big run to some shallow oyster covered rocks and grazed my leader. I loosened my drag and was able to guided it in. After lifting it up and over the short wall it came off as the treble broke. I guess today was my day... So happy to land my first legal popper caught bream
  24. Had a work picnic day today and was lucky enough to go fishing the whole day! Started the day walking the dog on city side of IC bridge at about 8:45 AM while flicking a 3" bm in watermelon around. Water was very murky coz of all the rain and I was struggling for even 1 bite. Changed to a 2" shrimp in lime tiger colour with instant success and managed to land a couple of flatties the best being 44cm. Fished till about 10:30 AM with nothing more to show for. Dropped the dog off, re-stocked up on sp, jig heads and bait at the the local tackle stores and headed for Brooklyn to meet up for a fish with 2 of my work friends at 12:30PM. We rented a tinnie and headed towards mooney mooney area to fish near and around oyster farms. I was using plastics while my friends were using prawns and pillies. Again I started with 3" bm in wm colour and could only get little tailor to bite. Switched to 2" shrimp and was on a solid fish but only to pull the hooks on it not only once by twice after it jumped back on It ended up not to be our day on the boat but the fishes day as my friend dropped a decent flattie right next to the boat (mental note must remember to bring landing net next time!!) Then on his following cast got on to one of those steam train bream that headed straight for the leases and was busted off in seconds!! I also was snagged up on a big fish which we assumed to be a bream but I unfortunately lost it. At about 4:30PM rushed the little 6hp engine back to the marina as the storm was imminent. Even though we failed to land a legal fish on the boat we all agreed that it was better than working. Got back home at around 7PM (Damn traffic ) the storm had passed so I took the dog for an evening stroll and fish around the western side of IC near henley marine drv. This time started with the 2" shrimp and after a few casts I felt the slights of bites...I twitched the lure abit and the slack went fast so I struck and I was on for a solid hook up. After a few good runs I ended up with this 35cm breambo that totally engulfed the lure. took a couple of snaps and put him back to grow to one of those 40+cm fish that I am still waiting patiently to land!!...one day he'll come back and jump on my lure again one day.... All in all it was a great day of fishing and I only wish I could do this more often!! Later fellow raiders!! Jeff
  25. Nice Trev there!!! beats my PB. Im sure it gave you a good arm workout. You must have been a bit nervous lifting it up over the wall on the cooks river knowing the fish was a PB!!! Well done man!!
