  1. Headed out early with Swano in the hope the water had cleared enough for some kingy action. On the squid straight away before light and with a dozen or so in the tank we headed for the point for a slow troll but was very slow so we spot locked the poly and sent some fresh strips of squid and that did the trick with us both getting + 80ss and I got smoked by a real monster 😡 and pulled the hook on another good fish. Great day out Deano and congrats on your PB Kingfish

G'day guys, it's good to be back! I've just been very busy and I've been meaning to post for a long time. This is linked to Stewy's previous report where we chased kingfish.  This report is like the part before we hit Molly point where we chased squid.  So consider this Part A 😃

It was a nice morning and it was great to catch up! I've got some pics of the little squid bash we had just prior. The squid were hungry and hitting jigs high up the water column. I think anybody could have caught a squid that day :) ... especially with a little green squid jig. Here are some nice pictures of the morning!

  3. Ok after seeing a few guys getting busted off decided  to go with the heavy artillery and the 50 saltiga short rod and big daiwa reel loaded with 24kg braid and a 1 and half mt trace of 60lb fluro with snelled hooks of 7/0s. This was needed to get down to around 8 or nine meters so a swivel between the trace and leader with a small length of 25lb mono perhaps 30cms and a 1/4 lb snapper lead and troll really slow or as slow as the 50 yammy would go around 700 rpms.

Yamashita squid jig in GU 2.2 with egi spray catches the squid and must be kept alive.

top hook in point of hood and bottom hook in the skin on the back of the head and hold on tight .

    I hope that helps.

Regards Stewy and cheers for the feedback.

Definitely need the heavier gear to have a good chance at those brutes, nice fish & photos, well done 😎. I presume you were trolling the squid on a down rigger

What was your trolling depth then Stu?

    Leader?

Been waiting to see some decent ones show up, might have to give it a crack Monday.

60lb  and snelled 5/0 s and yes 24 kg braid

  6. Hi all,

Been a while since a report by I have been fishing a bit and the kings are around with some nice sized fish among them.

i have been getting them on live squid slowly trolled around Molly Point and have caught up with a few raiders on the way . The bigger kings have been smashing the guys using lighter lines so we have been using 24kg 👍

Well done Stewy, good to get a decent legal one amongst all the rats!!

We had some little fellas with tags taking bits of pillies right at the boat and I hooked the only one without a tag on my 4 lb gear 🐟 bugger , but a great tussle none the less Rob. Oh and here is Mr Salmon

  8. Been hitting the bay a bit lately catching plenty of kings but all undersized until today when a very healthy 72cm model which put up a great fight. Swano and myself caught plenty of kings today and not just at the point but on numerous markers with fresh squid strips caught just on first light on green jigs. The big disappointment was not one crab 🦀 oh and a fiesty salmon as well. Swano did get busted off on a sizeable king on one of the markers (more drag) haha

    Amazing!!! Well done.

I have been following your cooks Jew success for nearly 2 years now and fish it quite regularly in similar tides/conditions/spots as when you post your catches. (From my yak). Loads of great by-catch but no Jew yet!!

    Sounds like a great session

Well come with me and I will show you how

  10. Took advantage of a favourable weather forecast and good tides and it paid of with a couple of nice Jews from the cooks on 5 inch jerk shads near high tide and then some very nice bream taken by Swano on a small green and white paddle tail with a few flathead thrown in. Then off to chippo for the afternoon Ep bash and we caught heaps on 2 gm jig heads and small wrigglers and plenty of flatties as a by catch. Top day out with Swano and caught and released probably a 100 fish or more
