  1. Yep going all that and yes will continue to target flatheads as read its the easiest! I am using pro-cure shrimp scent as the zman didnt come with any scent but not sure whether all the scents are the same? Thats good advice about moving which probably why i wasn't onto anything other than the first one as I was in the same spot. Also when do you change lure type and colours? Like do you give yourself 10 min and then try a different lure/colour? Yes using 14lb braid with 10lb flouro leader.
  2. Thanks mate! Just can't wait to get out this weekend!
  3. Thanks for sharing! Why are the Holts Production swim prawns so good? Might be a stupid question but why would you use 1/4 for bream/trevally and 1/12 for flathead? Wouldn't it be better to use 1/4 even for a flathead so u can cast it further? For just fishing around wharves land based would 5 and 7 inch be too big even for a kingfish?
  4. Thanks mate for the recommendation! I am hoping to get 2 or 3 packs ready in the tackle box as I learn more. I had a look at the slim swimz but it looks very similar to the minnowz or are there some subtle differences? Also wouldn't it be difficult to chuck the 1/12 jighead far? Also there are truckloads of tiny leatherjackets near the wharf and so would you just reel in the SP quick once its close to the wharf to avoid it getting ripped apart by the leatherjackets?
  5. I was using 1/4. There was also a bit of wind but I was casting about 25m or so i think.
  6. I have always been bait fishing but always intrigued at those people catching fish with soft plastic but put it in the too hard category. I have dabbled in soft plastics here and there but usually within 10 minutes of flicking the SP I would give up and go back to using bait. Recently I saw a few more fishos using SP catching fish and so went over for a chat and see what they use and did more research over the past week including learning double uni knots and loop knots so there is nothing on the line. Yesterday armed with some 3" zman minnowz in white and pro-cure scent I went to a local wharf for a flick. Didnt get anything for about 20 min but this time persisted with flicking it in slightly different areas and using different retrieval methods and then finally got a take! Reeled it in and it was a flathead at about 40cm. Didnt have a net and as soon as I got it off the water it did the dreaded head shake and fell back in the water. Disappointed but was more happy about the fact that i finally landed something on SP! It was pretty quiet afterwards but then as I was about the pack up there was this massive bust up on the water. Chucked in the SP and as soon as it hit the water it got taken. Managed to land about 4 taylors (about 40cm each) in quick succession but also lost a few as well. I am so glad I stuck with the plastics as I could have never done that with bait! Now I am looking for more soft plastics to add to the inventory though hoping not to go too crazy! I need to get another pack of the 3" minnowz but also read zman grubs in motor oil is a good allrounder? I usually fish off jetty and so would usually target flathead, bream, trevally and kingfish. If you have any recommendations on SP please do let me know!
  7. Like some of the others have said itepends what you are catching. I generally go for kingfish and so I use a float. I fish landbased and I use two 3/0 snelled circle hooks.
  8. Unfortunately I have not been successful at beach fishing at all.....as for the jetty in the park do you mean the one at The Entrance Playground or the one at Long Jetty Foreshore Reserve?
  9. Thats what i mostly read......let me see if there are any other place that can keep the kids entertained if they get tired of fishing. Just a shame the jetty is so long but yet so shallow.
  10. We are driving up to the Entrance area with a couple of other family with kids about 10 years old. One of the family suggested fishing at the Long Jetty at Long Jetty but I can't find much info on how it fishes. Some say the water is very shallow with lots of weeds which will be a pain if the kids get lots of snags. Any one fished there before could comment whether its any good? I am hoping that given how long the jetty is it will get deeper as we walk out and fish better? Also I am hoping it won't get too crowded on the weekend. Any advice from those that fished there before? Or perhaps somewhere else land based that would be a better option? Thanks guys!
  11. Really appreciate the tips and your sharing your local knowledge! Hopefully covid stays in check and looking forward to the trip!
  12. Sounds good mate. Any particular area on the beach? At least if we can't catch worms we can find some pipis. Caught our first pipis earlier this month and kids loved digging them for bait!
  13. Thanks mate. Any particular area at Broulee Beach you recommend? Never been so just wondering whether its better up north closer to Candlagan Creek or further down south near Broulee Island? Hopefully we catch our first firm and perhaps land a fish! As for Moruya River, I could only find Preddys wharf on google map. I presume I can fish off there?
  14. Hi Raiders Hope u had a great Christmas! Going down to Batesman Bay in Jan with the family and trying to do some fishing but really want to catch my first beachworm. I know how its done and saw some really tiny ones on narrabean but too small to nab. Any beaches recommend in the Batesman Bay area that I can find some beachworms or even along the way from Sydney to Batesman Bay? If not, any beach where I can grab some pipi? Lastly any land based recommendation at Batesman Bay to take my 11 year old? Thanks all.
  15. Got it. Thanks for the tip! I havent used worm or fish plastics before but i do have them in my tackle box! Guess a good time to try! I probably wont be driving around as we have a large motorhome. Would you know if pipis can be found at Umina beach? Never caught pipi before but is it a matter of going a mid tide and twisting your feet in the sand? Seems too easy!
  16. Do you mean the flats at the beach or elsewhere? Actually I might try my hand at beach worming at Umina Beach assuming ofcos there are beach worms there......but otherwise am interested in trying to find some pipi
  17. Mate, i am actually heading over to the NRMA park at Umina Beach next week with my two boys and so trying to do research before I get there. I was thinking of just bring a couple 7 foot rod, put some dead bait and sit them in rod holders. I was thinking of using pillies (perhaps ganged?) as thats what i use for Sydney harbour but any bait in particular you recommend? Also I presume you would still need to find a gutter? Do you know what kind of fish are usually caught there? Thanks heaps! Also never caught pipis but can you catch them on Umina Beach?
  18. Thanke mate. Let me take a look to see how much they cost
  19. Mate u mean the metal wire one or the non metal one? Thinking the metal wire one might be more sturdy
  20. Just at a wharf mate. Prefer to bring as little as possible so thinking either the floating keeper net or drilling holes into a bucket with a covered top but not sure if that floats...
  21. Mate quick question re drilling holes into my bucket. If I put a sealing lid on the bucket and drill some holes into it will the bucket float or will it sink into the water? If it floats i may do that rather than buying another piece of equipment. Thanks!
  22. This looks interesting and similar to what I was originally looking for. Does this one float? Thinking it might be easier if it floats
  23. Yep i have an aerator running and i find that works best when i have about 5 yakka.....any more and they die pretty quickly. I think its because there aint enough water and also to your point there prob aint much room to move......i think mine is a 20l bucket but i probably only fill it 3/4. Appreciate the offer but i am way over in Ryde! I may pass by Sutherland in a couple of weeks and if I do will PM you!
  24. Thanks mate, all very good ideas. Thanks for sharing! Yeah i do remove the dead ones but should you remove also the ones that looks as if they are dyinig anyway?
