there are large schools on the central coast  check dorsal for shark sightings on schools at avoca..they are north of newie  right up to swr     useless schools of bait eating crap....they should catch more.....when I was a kid we never caught them at Newcastle  now they go all the way to yamba  because there is so many of them they are spreading up the coast eating everything in their path  [yakkas slimies hatching squid] they come into lake mac gorging themselves on whitebait and arrow squid.....some people like them here but most loath the bloody things.....fun to catch  shit to eat compared to other local fish.....kill em all let our waterway get back to normal

Yep i heard the central coast guys wanted the numbers reduced a bit. I can remember before the salmon and kings recovered and species such as bonito and trailer were bigger without he completion. I've just driver up from Victoria and didn't see much bait about so maybe that's  part of the reason as well.

  2. Hi Doza

I brought the same unit  myself and also own a Elite HDI but have not been on he water yet but I'm guessing the Totalscan transducer will be networked  under "Device Configuration " and will have to be activated under that menu.

If I remember correctly the Elite transducer should work if you select generic 83/200 khz

  3. That's a fair distance by electric power, I do ten k plus trips myself and don't want to discourage you just be aware I've had to paddle back on occasion.

.At low speed these motors draw 9 amps and at full power 20 amps however you won't get double the speed at full power  and use unnecessary battery unless your prop is the right size which is unlikely. I usually lock the motor straight ahead on half speed and leisurely paddle.

  4. I would give Fitzroy  Falls a miss as I've fished it occasionally since they built it and never caught a thing.   Salty trout, the Mongarlowe River would be the closest decent water . You can check out Bill James guide books  however many of the waters that held trout twenty years ago are barren of fish these days

  5. Thanks for the tip, I have the same motor but haven't been on the water yet, checked it and had to jiggle the handle a bit to get it to lock and i'll take my file just in case. I had the previous model for many years and the new one looks much improved , great value for money.

I fish solo. So what do you do when you get back and see the trailer like this? What's the best plan. Sure a shop and the like sell rollers - but where would you get a winch post on a weekend ?

I've read the water police will help you out storing the boat at their base for a little while.

  7. The rivers starts  sixty km north of Oberon but is it's a bit warm only five hundred meters elevation, I vaguely remember a trout farm on the Wolgan River that  was washed way by floods, however I have never heard of any fishing there, anywhere south is worth a shot. If you want to try up that way Thompsons Creek Dam has been fishing well, caught a couple on Sunday and lost a real monster a few weeks back .

  8. I have never fished, wouldn't expect too much up there, too warm for trout and being eastern flowing there are no cod or goldens. Down lower in the gorges there might be trout or macquarie perch if you have a chopper, there are no roads to speak of.

  9. I have personally caught a bass there and seen reports of them being caught on facebook, they are doing well and very fat. The trouting is hard, if you catch one its likely to be a couple of kilo's but not easy to catch,I've given up on the place.

  10. A bit late, I know the location from my younger days, I have seen the fish schooled up off the southern tip however its very dangerous and just not worth the risk ,a wave would knock you down and the tide carry you way.

Shakey rock is near deep water but he cross current usually makes fishing difficult. The ledges just past the bight might be worth a go, I've caught drummer in close, never seen anyone kingy fish though, you can catch pike here, might be worth live baiting.

All in all looking a bit further north might be better if you want kingfish.

  11. Very strong westerly winds were I've been today, If it blows hard enough the surface water can be pushed out to sea and you can get an up welling of cooler subsurface water.

Some boaties like it but I used to rockhop a bit and never caught much when the westerly blew, maybe its the barometer I don't know.
