  1. Thanks guys , went with FB marketplace . Offered receipts and to run it . Looking like a guy will pay me a deposit tomorrow 🤞had a fair bit of interest as some would know motors aren’t easy to get atm. Looks like I’ll be repowering with a Yam 4 stroke which will suit us better for the type of boating we do .

  2. Thanks guys , yeah I use 291 for sealing  it’s good but I find if used as “caulking “ and if  it’s exposed it goes “matt” and allows dirt to adhere unlike silicone that’s why in this case was thinking of using white silicon .

on my transom I’ve drilled out most of the holes oversized and filled with epoxy before redrilling the screw holes  so the screws holding the fittings on need no sealant at all , but I still used 291 🙂

  3. Howdy all.

I am well versed in using sika for most things , but I got thinking I am fitting a new bow spirt and as I just want to stop water seeping under and into the bolt holes would a neutral cure white silcone be as effective ? I know sika has adhesive qualities but I don’t need that just a sealant ?

    TIA

  4. BRP are largely owned by an equity firm “Bain capitol” like most equity companies it’s just dollars (lots) and cents (not much) to them. As reported here year  on year sales have slid for etec brand and these equity firms can be brutal and I’ve been involved with a “Bain “ acquired company before. Decisions can be made very fast . FYI is Bain rings a bell it’s because they are chasing Virgin AU .

In reality as good as these motors may have been the average punter buying a boat package and has very little clue will have one thing honed into them “buy a four stroke “  and that would have been very detrimental to the brand .

  5. Hey raiders,

any news on the legislation being put forward to not allow people to park their trailer boats on a street for longer than 3 months. I find it extremely silly when you move the boat while heading out fishing and come back and parking at similar spot. This affects me and probably a few raiders, just wondering if anyone had any more news on this front. Not a new topic but thought i get some insight on the topic.

    Cheers

    Already discussing here mate.

  6. Looking at getting a drum winch, looking at savwinch, lone star and tuff winch.

The quintrex doesn't have the largest well, if I look at the 500watt models typically 200mm dia they hold about 60-65m of 6mm rope and 5-6m of chain. Seems a tad short to me and I would prefer to have closer to a 100m or am I being pedantic? Really only fish river, bay or close inshore.

  7. Jim,

I would lift your floor and check the tank thoroughly, I was recently out in my coastrunner(2005) and after smelling fuel, I liftied up a hatch and found raw fuel in the bilge. Immediately diluted it with sea water and headed back in. Found a hole in bottom of fuel tank and fuel constantly running out.

Your fuel line will be at the top of the tank and going into a fitting with a solid pickup line into the tank. Both breathers will be at the top as well.

On removal found 2 other spots on the tank undersurface that were starting to pit/corrode. Had it welded up as the rest of the tank was I good nic.

    Gaz

    Thanks Gaz

Yeah makes sense, the pickup being a stand pipe. Doesn't make me feel better though if the tanks starting to go! Bigger job

  8. Evening raiders

After last Sundays mild 40c I smelt fuel in the shed. Went looking tonight and I found fuel in the bilge of the Quintrex. Now my immediate thought is the tank itself is leaking, but starting to think most likely the fuel hose from the tank to the filter? I haven't been under there for years and was always going to replace the fuel line next time!

My question is ? Am I in a happy and do the alloy tanks leak after 10 years or is it most likley a 10 yo rubber fuel line? Presuming the fuel line takes off from the bottom of the tank?

  9. Being a 530 Iam taking a guess it's 1999-2003 age? Does it have a step down floor? If it does and it's same as the 500 it's 90 litres iirc.

Give Quintrex customer service a call with the plate details, they emailed me a old pdf of the brochure.

  10. Damn haven't been around much either and missed this.

What a guy Byron was and always ready to help a fisho. I remember discussing looking at getting a boat from QLD and before I knew it he was on the phone wanted to tag along for the trip, and had a mate at Ballina we could not only stop with but test out the rig their chasing some Jews! Unfortunately it fell through. Rest up mate, as many have said you will be sadly missed.

  11. Here is a shot, you can see the bracing? I made the rocket launchers from the ocean south kit. I agree with some comments, they are hardly sturdy but adequate considering the main hoop is alloy. As you can see this is quite tall, Iam 6'1" and got sick of ducking. It's actually the deck mounts that move the most rather than the hoop.

  12. Hi dave,

The bimini I currently have is alot like this (I also have the exact same boat model):bu10964_-_1.jpg

    Thanks for the help !

I have a similar set up on our freedom sport. The Bimini was made by Prestige boat covers I think (glenmore part) instead of the straps he ran a support from front loop to the window rail and then another goes horizontally from the rear hoop to front. No need for any straps.

Not as quick to set up but don't have those cords in the way. Another way would be to get those dogleg supports from bias but they will still take some deck space.

See if I can find a photo.
