  1. Furuno rep once told me to get a new kitchen cutting board, cut it to shape and fasten the transducer to it, clean the chosen section on the hull and then apply liberal amount of sikaflex and fasten with gaffer tape to the hull and leave to dry. make sure the nylon is flush with the bottom, this minimizes problems with the transducer picking up turbulent water.

I have the sounder stand off bracket mentioned above. If you know someone who can weld alloy these work as well.

  2. I am at the stage of an electronics up grade. I am looking at the Furuno 620 fishfinder and matching this up with a SI TEX GPS 95CPI Or if i can push it i was looking at Lowrance HDS-5 chartplotter.I was originally looking at the Lowrance HDS-8 but came back scratching my head as to which way do i go after talking to my local tech guy.Need help!!!!

    Cheers Stu

I run the 620 with an older 3500C lowrance, happy with both. I have managed to feed the GPS data to the Furuno but hardly ever used it.

I have an unresolved issue with my 620 in very shallow water that i need to resolve (could be me) at times with the furuno i wish for better resolution. but if you take the trouble to work it manually it seems very good. But alas nothing has found me fish lately :1badmood:

I have heard good things about the HDS series fishfinder

  3. Does anybody know why the NSW oppostion has removed there "Marine park Disallowance" motions from the so called Council notice paper last month in State parliment?

Your reference to TSP needs to be aired

John Tingle supported the NSW ALP when the Marine Park Bill hit the floor in 1997 and failed to speak up for recreational fishers with any concerns of lock outs or no-fishing zones or business failures or downturns because of its intro.

Mr Tingle also supported the ALP in Nov 2000 on the Marine Park Bill amendments, again no support or grandstanding for recreational anglers or businesses with lock-outs or no fishing zones.

As a matter of fact I cannot recall or find any Hansard reports of Mr Tingle mentioning or supporting recreational fishers in his 12 years in the Upper House. I do realise he was representing shooters and maybe once led a delegation of commercial fishers to the Minister but fishing was absent in his recorded representation.

I also cannot research (yet) any facts of where TSP has publicly campaigned against the NSW ALP fishing decisions other than slap on the wrist dorothy dixer's. I do know they are campaigning to split and seek the fishing vote which has proven to be a threat to the ALP as what happened in the seat of Port Stephens and which will certainly carry on if there is any more stupid lock-outs by stealth as in this latest green religious agenda.

The fishing community needs its own political voice (s) and be a voting threat as the greens do otherwise you can lobby until the cows come home. TFP has tried and will continue if it can muster candidates for marginal seats in the House of Reps plus the Upper House.

I FISH I VOTE (the only way they-ALP and Coalition understand if it can be harnessed)

    :1fishing1::thumbup:

Bob in my posts I dont think i ever suggested the TSP stood up for anglers (they have there own agendas) its just i know a lot of shooters who fish. I just said that anglers should take a leaf from there book and create a single voice.

  4. Try sending a PM to Roberta or chopper75, mate. They are both locals to the area and should be able to help you out ;)

    Cheers

    Hodgey

    Thanks hodgey

Will do, I forgot Chopper was a local now, I know Roberta was away and didn't want to bother her.

  5. Hi all

Up in forster till friday, havnt had any luck. Hoping somebody could give us aome ideas. We are staying at the keys and with the wind am trying to stay near wallis lakes but will try anything to get a catch

  6. Jim I suspect it is not the actual buckle but the way the strap has been fed through the buckle.

It is very easy to fit the straps either up side down or back the front. (been there , done that)

When done correctly , the tightining & release is very quick & easy.

Below are 2 photo's which show the correct method

    Hope this helps

    Geoff

Geoff many thanks, i think this is where i am going wrong.

Boomer battery box is important IMO in an alloy boat, the acid and the alloy do not mix to well

  7. Hi All,

Does anyone know much about a Stacer 570 runabout? I have done a google seach and only found the half cabin version, the oceanmater. Does anyone have one or had that is willing to share some information about this boat. I have already bought it, but just wanted to know any good or bad things about the boat. It also came an 1997 Evinrude 90hp 2 stroke (v4 i think). Is this a good engine. Looks like it was the engine that was orginally attached to the boat.

    Thanks

I looked at a ratty one down the sth coast once. Looked a good solid hull to me. Many early Stacers had OMC (Johnsons) motors fitted because i think OMC owned Stacer then? The V4 motors are good motors, heaps of torque and the 90 is understressed because it is the 115 motor tuned down to 90. Emissions aside i think the V4 Johnson would be the best performing 90 around.

Craig at Huett marine is the best person to tell you about both Stacer and Johnson motors.

  8. I have two batteries onboard which means i have two battery box with two straps and two of those damn buckles with serrated teeth. They are an absolute mongrel to undo, is there any alternative to these crap buckles? Has anybody tried using a quick release buckle?

  9. Parra will be a tough game for the dogs it always is. I think last weeks game showed some areas where the great J Hayne has some weakness's and if they exploit that and shut down mortimer (10 mins of running a few forwards at him should work) we might get up.

Anyway the good thing about being a dogs supporter is you never have long to wait for a finals play off (or premiership)

    GO THE DOGS

  10. Use construction ply :biggrin2:. Its exactly the same as marine ply except that it has some small voids in the inner sheets.

Costs a lot less than marine ply and has the same performance - especially for a bench seat.

Just make sure that you seal the end grain well once it has been cut.

    Steve

The manufacturers use construction ply, i went to get MP from a certain retailer who specialize in plywood and he said the same CP has same qualities just some voids. The hatch i made with it has been perfect the last 3 years.

PS the voids are not on the outside, it is flat.

  11. Anyone?

Mate this is probably the wrong place to post. also have a look in the GPS section and google marks> I have some i can send you but they are nothing special just info i gleaned from googling around.

One bit of advise i can give you is if you leave your car at Currambene creek make sure there is no valuables inside AT ALL it is a bad spot for petty theft

Also wear a life jacket crossing from the creek to JB, it is now considered a bar for purposes of fining you saftey.

  12. Hi everyone, was just after some advice, the floot on my stacer Baymaster runabout is starting to feel very soft. it is marine ply with Marine carpet attached.

i was thinking of getting new ply and screwing in some checker plate, makes it easier to clean and wash after fishing.

the boat is pretty dry when it comes to fishing, but i was just wondering if anyone has done this before or is it better to just use some heavy duty marine carpet.

i like to clean the carpet after every use, dont like the boat stinking like fish!

    thanks in advance!

I think a lot of the later boats used construction ply not marine ply. still water proof/resistant as they used waterproof glue just not as well sealed in the layers, someone here will know more about it.

I replaced my hatch with CP and sealed both sides with polyurethane before carpeting, came up well.

You can get that plastic like checker plate they use on cars, they may not get hot, don't know if it is water proof.

  13. G'day Raiders,

I want to replace the boat trailer 5 stud disc/hubs with 6 stud disc/hubs so I can use larger 16 inch patrol rims.

From my research/enquiries on the www it looks like the 6 stud version only come with a 12" disc.

Does anyone know if there is a 10" version of the 6 stud/hub ?

    Cheers,

    GUDude

I think you can get Land cruiser 6 stud (80 series) with standard disks which is 140mm PCD. What PCD is Patrol?

  14. Hmmm funny how my airmar NKP CTP253 1kw transducer was lengthened by 11m after the cable was cut a foot from the transducer by TMQ electronics very successfully but obviously that cant be done by your way of thinking and expertise.... Also a plug changeover costs $40 and has been done successfully on half a dozen transducers for lowrance units that i know of, HDS units havent been done as yet im still waiting for conformation from lowrance.

The fact that yours has been cut and joined means little, i doubt any supplier will agree with cutting the transducer cable? There is many factors that affect cable joins/splicers and the most elaborate splicing will still create problems, maybe immediately, maybe later or affect signal (IE the data). further more if the newer digital sounders are sending true digital signal down the cable there is other issues.

You are much more likely to have long term success re terminating a plug on the end or using an adapter, but once again for folks reading this, modifying your cable in any way will almost certainly void your warranty.

  15. That is correct but the furuno transducer which is an airmar is exactly the same as the transducer that lowrance use, so you buy the furuno transom mount transducer and have the plug changed to suit the lowrance.

Huey is of course right, you can not cut the transducer cable. you may be able to get adapters but cutting through the cables shield wil render it useless.
