Hard one. Many memorable days. 4 days gamefishing at Lord Howe Island in 1990. Kings galore.
A fantastic day in January 2000(?)with my wife and then 8 year old son on a sportfishing charter on Sydney Harbour. To see the smile on our son’s face every time he pulled in a bonito, salmon, tailor or king was just so satisfying! Watching a huge school of whitebait the size of a football field reduced in 30 minutes (by aforementioned, bonito, salmon, tailor and kings) to a school about 1 sq metre, scooping up bucketfuls of whitebait from the school for bait and whitebait fritters. Laughing as my son used the angler’s priest on the whitebait, egged on by the charter skipper. 😂
An amazing day in the early 80s, fishing in a 14 foot Quintrex Fishabout off Narooma. Hooked a yellowfin trolling at “yellowfin alley” at Montague Island, lost it at the boat 3 1/2 hours later, 15 miles out. Then we hooked a black marlin on 6lb threadline gear trolling a red and white feather for striped tuna. Lost that after a 30 minute fight. Then lost a huge wahoo at the boat. Also had a brilliant day on albacore to 12.5kg. That day’s hard to beat.
But any day where everything goes right, I get a few fish and I get to enjoy the ocean. 😎
Now thats some days to remember😯👍
Lord howe is on the bucket list

Hello all,
I was just looking at all my photos and i thought for a minute what would my most memorable day fishing ever be??
What would yours be? Was it a PB day or a day you had perfect weather and fish or a day when everyone bagged out etc.
I think for me it was the day in the harbour when we caught 10 70cm plus kings then that arvo got 4 jewies also flatties and 35cm snapper spread and heaps of bonnies and tailor!! Whats yours?????
Im sure many of the veteran raiders would have some very awesome days to tell us about

Keep in mind a 4000 Daiwa BG is much bigger than a 4000 Shimano. In my post, I was suggesting Shimano sizes, so maybe a 3000 sized Daiwa BG. Just check out how the combo feels in store if you can. The raider rod is fairly light so can be off balanced quote easily with a heavy metal reel.
Ok thanks anthman

Thanks guys yes im thinking down the path shimano raider 5-8kg 7ft6 with a 4000 or 5000 spinfisher or daiwa bg

Hell yes... I landed a bluefin off the rocks on an Alvey. Admittedly one of the Alveys that has a drag system though.
Awesome thanks
So ive narrowed it down to a
Centrepin
Gosa
Spinfisher
Or a baitrunner of somekind
-
Sry cant really help but when u do find the yakkas brisbane waters is really good for jewies and kings

Centrepin reels 4 me.
Have cheap ($2.50) Steelites through to more expensive hand made models but the touch/connection you have when playing a fish is 100% reeltime touch. Priceless.

Thx for the feedback guys
I have never used a centrepin reel...never even really seen one in action can they handle big fish?

Does the penn spinfisher cast well? Because it maybe double up for landbased use? If not then i have plenty others i use for land.
Just wondering because apparently some of the penns the part that holds the line is flat on the underneath of the top whereas the saragosa is angled so it releases the line smoother and without tangles?
If you have found that with penns i would love to know
-
Appreciate the replies guys what do you think... i have a saragosa and love it may buy another or a saltiga or do you think for snapper and reef fish a penn spinfisher i am better because value for money?

I am looking a combo for snapper offshore what would you recommend? There seems to be a lot of people liking penn spinfishers for snapper? May i ask why?
-
Hello raiders just a discussion what is the most expensive or most reliable combo you own. And why would you recommend that combo to others? Also what the best fish you caught on that combo is.
Btw if you think my topics are a waste of time lmk reply below and tell me
-
Yes yon please tell us if you are certain it was reefed and not chafed from the skin of a shark and also did it take the bait and kind of move up the water column and speed up there or did it go straight down?
-
For someone who has caught some VERY LARGE STINGRAYS this fight doesnt really sound very similar... maybe a hoodlum or large snapper, maybe a decent tuna or something but i have no experience in the latter so dont know for sure
What rod reel were u using and was the bait on bottom or near surface?

Hello Raiders, sorry about another thread, i was just thinking we all have a favourite species and a favorite way to fish and a favorite environment, but what if we combine all of these things and say what is your dream fish, like may THE ONE that once busted you off or the one you dream about, the one you would pay alot to catch😀
Combine that with where and with what gear. (Not the actual spot but like beach harbour FADs 5 mtres of water 10 mtres of water etc) just the environment your in. And what gear would like to be using.
I certainly have a dream fish mine is a 30kg+ jewfish from the beach on a prevail 10ft rod paired with a 10000 saragosa. i would pay alot to get a fish like that😀😀
Whats yours??

Well done on those good fish mate
Isnt it funny how bream and blackfish etc even if they r only 5-10cm bigger they look way bigger than the littler ones because of weight etc
