Just around the corner at Merimbula has been fishing well with some hefty kings on the wharf and rocks. Salmon seem to be just about everywhere there are good gutters and plenty of sharks feeding on them.

Be ultra careful as the swell is a killer at the moment.

Thanks for the update. Will keep Merimbula on my to-do list.

  2. Hello All,

After few months of successful fishing in Durras North, I have now decided to spend some time fishing in Tathra. If you have not seen my fishing reports from Durras North then you can see them here. Tathra seems very interesting because it seems fairly easy to catch Salmon above 50cm from the beach and there are some rocky areas on both ends of Tathra Beach that I have not explored yet. Drone fishing has been extremely difficult on Tathra Beach due very strong undercurrents that cause too much drift when you drone-drop the bait a few hundred meters out. I have caught 3 Salmon on Tathra Beach so far (2 above 50cm) and they were all caught by good old fashion manual casting. I plan to spend at least a few weeks if not months exploring fishing spots in Tathra. Stay tuned for video reports in this thread! Here is my first fishing report from Tathra:

Nice catch and top vid. Whalers that size are great on the chew. I'd you want to take one for a feed, you will need to invest in some quality knives and sharpening stones if you haven't got any already.

Never owned a drone, looks like fun!

Can also try ballooning your bait out from the rocks if you want sharks specifically. Whalers will come close to the surface if you have a burley trail going. Or if there's a rip nearby, ballooning it out also works on most days. Hope to see some more of your vids and catches!

Thanks for the encouragement and also for the suggestions. Will keep your suggestions in mind on future trips.

Great video and nice touch releasing him. I've never caught a bronzie but I hear at that size they are very good eating.

Thanks man. I decided to let the shark go because I could not confirm fast enough if it was legal to keep this type of shark. Instead of spending too much time on ID and potentially killing the fish in the process, I opted for letting it go. Hopefully, I can catch it again sometime.

  5. Sorry guys, have been offline for a few days. Thanks for all the encouraging comments. Appreciated.

The drop mechanism of my drone is home made and very simple. I bought one of these kitchen wall hooks:

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/permastik-white-kitchen-hooks-9-pack_p3950421

removed the metal hook from the plastic body and then used a cloth tape (easy to tear with hands) to affix the hook underneath the drone. When the drone is over the drop area, I just turn the drone around 180 degrees and fly backwards and the rig drops. Simple!
