    Is fishbrain pro worth it?

    IMO i wouldn’t waste your money on fishbrain pro, if you are in the area I find that often you will be able to recognise the spot through the background regardless and I know that not many people actually tag the exact location of their catch, so the function is virtually useless. Additionally a good website for knowledge and spots is this one, I’ve found I’ve got a bunch of different ideas, views, opinions, knowledge and spots just from putting the places I fish into the search engine or the species that I am targeting, you couldn’t have a better weapon at your disposal.

    Killalea/bass point, advice needed

    Hey everyone,

    Just looking for advice on fishing the Killalea/bass point area, all and any tips will be greatly appreciated as I have never fished there before. I was also wondering if there’s any aquatic reserves or similar places I should refrain from fishing at. Specifically wondering about any general spots to fish and what to use and target.

    Lots of bustups around middle harbour right now so definitely worth giving it a go, kings will sit under the busting up tailor and salmons, so lures that can get deeper would be a good choice if you wanna have some fun bustup hunting, however chucking out a squid garfish or a yakka near the bustups will probably work too, all this is right in middle harbour, so no need to go offshore, only requirement for more success is if you go early morning at the break of dawn.
    Mind you it can be frustrating seeing the kings chase your lure and constantly not hit it.

    P.S on the jewfish front I am no expert at all but from experience  if you hit a couple deep holes in the Hawkesbury on the high tide with fresh prawns or tailor/yakka fillets, you will most likely have success, of course livebaits work too but I haven’t have trouble reliably sourcing them, so never have given it a real go for Jews.

    Hi all,

    Now that the submissions for the dusky Flathead bag limit reduction and size reduction have concluded, I was wondering when we will expect to see the results from that poll and the likely changes to dusky flathead bag and size Limits?

    I feel that this implementation will be a very positive thing for our fisheries, especially the 5 per person bag limit which I believe is far more than reasonable.

    Hey mate,

    Congrats on first fish, I know that spot very well, definitely worth giving squidding a try there specifically from the other wharf at the spot, pretty consistent spot for them, but you have to fish early morning or late afternoon into night. Also caught a king from there too, and a big flattie, lots of fish given the right times and right tides.

    In my opinion, I like most fish, except I will not eat leatherjacket, no matter how good it is I can’t stand it. And I don’t eat bream anymore because IMO it isn’t anything special and they are often really old and usually don’t get a whole bunch of meat off them.

    First king on Soft plastics - middle harbour

    Hey everyone,

    Decided to head out for a morning fish early this morning with live yellowtail and surface plastics, the first hour was met with nothing for the yakkas except one take which just pulled it straight off the hook. Then, small and scattered bust ups started to appear around us, so for the next 30minutes we were playing cat and mouse with this school of mystery fish. Finally I managed to get a good cast in right on top of a bust up which appeared basically at our feet, then, as I am jigging the weightless 5in jerkshad along the surface I see a dark shadow come up from behind and suddenly my lure disappears. I was on, after a 5-10minute fight on light gear (6lb line and 2500 reel) I get it to the surface and to my elation I see it’s a kingfish, my first king on soft plastics. So cool to get these rats on soft plastics, easily the best way to catch fish. Tried chasing the school of kings around for the next hour but they managed to allude us as the bust ups would only last for 10-20 seconds with only a few fish hitting the surface.

    Barotrauma - survival rates?

    Hi everyone, 

    I recently caught a jewfish that suffered from barotrauma, where the rapid change in pressure effects the fish in such ways as bulging eyes and swelled up swim bladders. I thought it was a bit odd that this fish suffered from barotrauma when it was only pulled out of 8m of water, however it released well after about 30 seconds of swimming it and it never floated back up to the surface. I was wondering if fish can survive the affects of barotrauma and why this jewie got it from relatively shallow water? 
    PS This particular fish had its swim bladder protruding about 2cm from its lip and was extremely swelled up

    Hawkesbury River - PB Jewfish

    Yeah I thought it was a bit weird that the fish suffered from barotrauma especially when it was only pulled out of 8m of water, but after about 30seconds in the water she swam off well, we then stayed in that spot for another 20mins and it never floated back up to the surface. I have never heard of puncturing it to get the air out as this was my first fish I ever caught that suffered from barotrauma, but I’m pretty sure she survived.

    Hawkesbury River - PB Jewfish

    Last Friday arvo my family and I decided to head to a house on the Hawkesbury for the weekend plus Monday and Tuesday, and I had one goal, catch a jewfish.

    Friday Night was met with success and I landed my first two jewfish, just small soapies but I was ecstatic. Saturday morning was met with success too and I landed my third and fourth jewfish (still soapies). Sunday was met with a bag of flatties and a very big jewfish lost on light gear land based. Monday was slightly less successful with one small soapie jewfish landed and a very large stingray which fought like a jewfish. Finally, Tuesday wasn’t looking destined for fish, with our checkout due for 2pm I decided to take the boat across the eastern side of bar point to use up the last few yakkas I had. After 30-45mins of no action and our checkout time creeping up on us we were about to head in when my rod buckled. After a good fight I pulled up my best jewfish to date going 65cm, it then regurgitated a few prawns which I then landed a small soapie on 😂. 
     

    Ultimately it was a great trip, landing my first ever jewfish, and a bag of flatties along with a couple mud crabs Aswell.
