  1. G'day, Took my son and his two mates for a fish today. Launched early from Cooks River and had lines in the water soon after. Good to see the Fisheries people up early, saw them on the way in and out. Tried off the fuel jetty for a while and hooked heaps of small snapper, none of any size, but a lot of fun. Did many drifts in the deeper areas with no luck. Decided to give the beaches ago a long the foreshore. finally found where all the whitting and flathead were. We fished 20metres or less off the sand for the rest of the morning for about 20 - 30 whitting and about 20 flathead. One of our better days on the bay lately. Ended the day with about 15 good size keepers. Barry.
  2. Ah! So that's what's probably happening with the lack of grey nurse as well. They've all moved inland. I bet no one's looked for them there! LOL TIC Barry.
  3. G'day all, Had plans to get up early this morning and be on the water just before sunrise. A good plan ... but it didn't happen that way!$#%? A late night and daylight savings stuffed us up. Eventually arrived at ATB about 0730, not many trailers in the car park but plenty of fog/mist about. Headed for Coal & Candle at a very slow rate with all lights on. Came across some clown towing a wakeboarder in the soup. Some people shouldn't be given anything sharp or be in control of anything with a motor. No waterways boys around, all at the boat show at Akuna Bay. Eventually the soup cleared to a nice day and we got some lines in the water. Got into a bunch of whiting, a lot of small stuff but we did manage a few nice keepers for dinner tonight. Hooked into a stack a bream, all small stuff, but a lot of fun. By midday it was like George Street. So many boats of all sizes. Time to head for home. Got back to ATB to find it packed, took some time to get the boat out. Another great day on the water. Roll on summer. Barry.
  4. G'day guys, Sorry to hear of your damage, but at least, as everyone else has said, no one got injuried. I have had the same thing nearly happen to me ... so many times, that I'm in the process of making two removable brake/taillights to mount high on the stern of my boat. I do think that boat trailer lights are too low and not too easy to see, although there are many drivers that do'nt drive that well either. Good luck and hope to see you back on the water soon. Barry.
  5. G'day all, Heading off this Monday for a 10 day cruise ( does that sound a bit like Gilligan's Island? ). One of the stops is Vila. Does anyone know if there is any duty free fishing tackle to be had there? Regards, Barry.
  6. G'day all, Went up the river for a fish on Saturdaywith my son. On the water a bit late, arround 0630. Tried off F&S for a while with no luck. The fishing's been a bit slow of late. Only a few bites, but nothing serious. About 1030 the southerly hit along with a few good downpours. That saw a few boaters call it a day. Decided to head back towards ATB and fish the various sand flats in the bays, on the way. While fishing the flats, my son, who was up front ( bowrider ) let out a yell. " Oh, my goodness!" ( not the exactly the words he used, but the same meaning!? ). He said that a large flathead had followed his bait all the way to the boat. He thought it was about 60cm+. I told him that he was seeing things and to cut back on those " V " drinks. At his persistance, I went up the bow and witnessed him "entice" this flathead three more times. I could not believe what I was seeing. I wished I'd had a camera with me, as it would have been agreat shot, and proved that I was'nt going mad. I think he underestimated it's size, it was 80cm+ and very dark. One of the largest I've ever seen. It got to the point of me nearly straightening my gaff and jumping in after it. I did seriously concider it but sanity kicked in. We tried every bait and lure we had, with no luck. He gave up and so did we. A great day and a bit of fun, and something to tell his kids one day. Regards, Barry.
  7. Hi Huey, Having not been a boaty for long ... can you please expand on the battery/wingnut issues? This setup seems to be quite common on many boat packages. Regards, Barry.
  8. To all those involved, well done. A great setup and a great day on the water. Got to meet & greet a number of raiders at the ramp and at the sign in. Sorry we could'nt say for the weigh in as we had a previous appointment to make an appearence at. Looking forward to the next one. Again ... well done guys. Barry.
  9. Top job Marty, looks great. Well done. Barry
  10. G'day all, My name's Barry aka Mrwooley, age 52 and I live in the suburb of Mount Annan. My interests are fishing, camping, motorcycles/quad bikes & model trains, not in any order of preference. I've been fishing since about 7 or 8 years old, at which time my best mate and I used to wag school to go fishing at the old ferry wharf under Gladesville Bridge. As my best mates no longer with us, it brings back great memories every time I drive over that bridge. I have a 14 year old son who enjoys fishing and wake boarding, so I make a concerted effort to get us out on the water at least once a month. I love his company and wish to make the most of it while he still wants to associate with his dad. They grow up too quick! Hope to catch up with some of you either on the water somewhere or at the next social, on the Bay. Regards, Barry.
  11. G'day all, Being a new member, I'm looking forward to this next social event, but not being familiar with the Bay, having never fished there before, could someone please tell me the locations of some of the closest ramps to Cooks Park. Is there one in Cooks Park or are the ones mentioned in the social notice the only local ones? Regards, Barry.
  12. G'Day, Count me in. As a new member, my son and I look forward to catching up with everyone. Barry.
  13. G'day all, I'm looking for a way to keep my rods off the deck in my bowrider, while I'm motoring to my favorite fishing spots. I've looked at various options but none seem to work well for me. My last option would seem to be rocket launcers. I'm after some views on the cheap aluminium ones... do they work or do they fall apart? As do'nt often go outside and also that I may be upgrading boats next year, I do'nt want to shell out for the more expensive S/Steel versions. Regards, Barry.
  14. Many, many years ago, my mate's dad used to take use fishing. Ever time there was phospherous about he would take us to Lane Cove Park, near the weir, or to the netted off swimming area at Bobbin Head, and jag for mullet. He always thought that it caused them to swam. There must be something it it, as he always got heaps. Regards, Barry
  15. [G'Day all, First post, hope I do it right!? I have a 475 freedom sport and have been looking a the possibility of mounting those "in -built" type of tackle boxes. The only place I can find that would seem to work is in the 'walk-through" to the bow, in the side panels of the dash. Has anyone else tried this, and does it work? Barry
