  1. never caught a Jew but hope to see what everyone is talking about regarding smell soon!
  2. I haven't thought to try that so I'll give it a go. I know there are kings around that spot in reasonable number considering you can see them in clear water.... I think ill try it tomorrow
  3. honestly one of the better table fish. plentiful, and one 45cm one will feed 4 with ease!
  4. nothing worse than losing nice ones to a snag... especially the nicer nomad ones. they have so many hooks its impossible to keep them off snags forever
  5. Awesome catch! do you go that way much for bream? I'm interested in how you manage the boat traffic/wash? Ive been keen to try the area for a while and what spots are comfortable to fish. I was thinking about trying around the boats on the western side of the spit around dawn.
  6. Hi All, I've been trying to make the most of my new (to me) yak in Fig Tree Cove in Middle Harbor. The weather has been poor but I have been pulling in salmon after salmon, to the point where I am now bored of drag tearing off my little Stradic 2500... and felt is spewing out the sides. Depending on wind direction I am basically pulling a drift from point A to point B visa versa. and I am throwing a small metal casting jig (7g) and a paddle tail Zman in a purply silver colour with a 2/0 3.5g jig head fast retrieve for both. Bait seems to stack at the sand flat edge, and at about 6m deep about 15m from the edge of the sand flat. I have seen kings cruising there too and would welcome some tips to target then in the shallows. I have noticed, other people pull up to the spot and basically sit on the bait that was sitting 10/15m off the flat and appear to kill the bite, so if boating I recommend parking back further than you think you should and practice that long cast! This is a video I made recently but have had about 5 identical trips there in the past month. It's an awesome spot to yak, and launching at Willis road isn't too difficult when compared with paddling from Tunks park. I've tried the surrounding bays/creeks etc. but for some reason, all day salmon are firing here. If you have the opportunity to try the spot soon and get onto salmon please let me know! for now I am off to find another spot in the fishing reports to catch something other than salmon!!! CBALLZ
  7. @Tommy TJ you have to do it! the only thing is the wind, but I guess you can find shelter behind dense tree covered shores to make the session less of an exercise in sailing! one thing I want to try on the yak are the boats around this area. https://goo.gl/maps/KxNVkoeBWNLu34Ty9 every time in recent past i see bird activity which looks to be more than seagulls harassing people and I saw a video of a guy catching Kings off the hulls a few years ago.
  8. Hi All, In the past 3 weeks I have been fishing in north arm of Sydney Harbour because it seems to be more productive, landing good flatties, salmon and even my first rat king of the season at 56cm. I Have since been out in both locations and notice a stark difference on the sounder. -north arm STACKED with bait... forget bait balls. calling it a ball implies there is an outer perimiter -Parra near the bridge- DEAD on the sounder at Wollstonecraft where i live i paddled around berry island, the coal loader and to woodleys pty ltd noticing minimal bait while trying to learn how to catch live bait (from other posts on fishraider) however in north arm the sounder was hard to use due to the thick and constant bait balls. the north arm event in the yak netted two 65ish flatties a bit away from tunks park boat ramp, one of which was dead on arrival unfortunately. and another session where i caught this king, a guy pulled in 5 keeper bream on a flat with prawn bait and burley. (none were kept though #responsiblefishing) it seems to be going off in that arm of the harbour at the moment so if i had to pick I would be up the north arm!
  9. thanks @Rebel, @Tommy TJ, @Bluebenbomb for the encouragement, I look forward to being active on the boards
  10. @Tommy TJ Ive been out quite a bit on a kayak to fish but just upgraded to a revo 13 second hand, so far I am just testing it out and fiddling around with navigation using the sounder. I would agree that it helps you land based, especially finding routes to land based spots, and submerged structure!
  11. Hi All, This is my first post but I often read how to articles here after meeting Derek D at Mosman ferry wharf and he spent 45 minutes teaching me to cast properly... and after watching that lure fly so far I was hooked! I also read lots of the how to articles which give me great ideas so I hope this gives someone an idea for a morning or afternoon. The location is North Arm walking Track, I've been catching nice Flathead 55-65cm, Salmon about 50cm and a little flounder. TIDE AND TIME. My observation is the bait fish seem to be stacked at low tide when they are pushed off the rocky outcroppings around the shore. At high tide it seems like there are too many places to hide and success was less common. I fished dusk and dawn over 3 sessions, and the tide really seems to be the main driver to success shore based. I try to keep the lure near the edges, casting at angles along the edge, versus perpendicular to the shore. GEAR + LURES I had good success on almost everything, using some 5" jerk baits on 3/8th jig heads, a 10g blade vibe, a metal, mostly having success with the plastic. I have a slammer 3500, with Shimano Anthem SW, 15lb platypus braid, 30lb FCleader (chasing king gear) this is one of the sessions I had, not sure if linking to youtube is ok, but it gives you an idea of the area and what I was going. If the post is not OK please let me know and I apologise if ive broken rules. One other thing, if you watch the video and have any tips please share. I'm joining the community to learn and contribute where I can. My next post might be a bit about learning to kayak fish off some of Derek D's kayak tutorials. Cheers CBallz
