  1. And here's all the cooking! Passionfruit, lime and coriander carpaccio and some classic fish tacos! There's something about researching, catching and cooking your own fish (and having it turn out to be damn tasty too!) that is just so satisfying! Fillets cut down to size Fish Tacos! And the carpaccio! Once again thank you all for the help!!
  2. Hey All! A few weeks back I put out a post asking for information regarding rock fishing around Jervis Bay and was very happy to receive a fair amount of information that led to some awesome fishing! As someone relatively new to rock fishing (only caught salmon and slimeys) I was keen to catch some bonito and kings and Jervis Bay certainly provided. Overall roughly 10 bonito and one rat king (60cm - just too small!) were landed across 4x 2-3hr sessions at mermaids inlet (it is still "closed" but in my opinion the track is pretty safe as long as you aren't being an idiot and there were 4-5 other people fishing there every time I was there.) of which I kept 6 of the bonito and made some (in my humble opinion) lovely dishes. On the last session I was quite bummed as a ~90cm king had a curious tap at my 150mm minnow but no hookset was made 😭 I want to thank those who helped me out with info, other sessions at the boat ramp, rock pools and beaches were quite successful but the real fun was definitely the rocks and I have the itch to get out there again! Attached is a photo of one of the bonito fighting pretty hard, more photos will be sent in replies as they are too big to fit in one post! Will
  3. Hey mate! Sorry to hear if this has happened to you! The remedy I know of is to submerge it in water that is as hot as you can tolerate! Friendly reminder not to burn yourself though! From memory this also works with red rock cod and bullrout amongst other stingers
  4. Hey all! Heading down to stay at Currarong beach for a week in late Jan/early Feb and would love to see people’s experience with fishing the beach there, along with any help with rock fishing on the Beecroft Peninsula. I’ve been wanting to catch bonito for a while but have never really attempted it, and I’ve done a fair bit of research about the outer tubes and it seems like the place for it. I wouldn’t call myself a seasoned rock fisherman but I’ve done my fair deal of rock fishing to know what I’m doing, but would love to just hear general information about fishing there especially for bonito (open to other species however!) As for Currarong beach, would just be looking for advice for general beach fishing as I’m not after anything specific there. I’d be fishing with my 11ft 10-20kg sea bass rod along with a 5000 spin reel
  5. Hey Mate! NB Local here so happy to provide really the only place I fish nowadays because it consistently provides for me. Taylors point wharf (https://goo.gl/maps/LTfAxH2YMHr1QJ778) I don't fish it as much in winter because it slows down quite significantly and seems to get overcrowded with (very) undersized snapper and bream, however the times I have fished in summer I tend to catch yakka from the wharf (Bread mixed with sea water for barley and unweighted chunks of prawns for bait) and then used fillets/chunks of said yakka on standard rigs and caught legal bream 30-40cm (all thrown back so they should be there for you!) legal tailor, trevally, along with banjo and shovelnose sharks. All your standard Pittwater wharf species are there, and I've seen both arrow squid and calamari caught off the wharf, although I've never really given them a try. Largest thing I've caught there which took about 25 mins to get to the wharf was a huge stingray! maybe 80cm-1.2m across? Although definitely not a target species of mine was good fun on a 4kg rod! Best of luck wherever you end up! Keen to see a report!
  6. Thanks guys for the quick replies! Has anyone here had issues with yakka and parasites in regards to sashimi? I thought it would be fun to bring some soy sauce on the boat as I’ve done it on a charter with kingfish but of course if it’s high risk there’s no harm in bringing them back and doing all that preparation
  7. Hey all! I am considering going out and trying yakka/yellowtail sashimi as I've caught some 30cm+ fish recently (I am aware these may be cowanyoung - also curious about their sashimi quality) As ive heard multiple reports that it is quite delicious! I am just wondering about the safety of eating them fresh in regards to any chance of food poisoning, if it would be okay to eat them within a few minutes of catching or if it would be wise to chuck them in the fridge for a few hours beforehand? Curious if people have had any good/bad experiences with this!
  8. Hey All, First time posting in Fishraider after a long time lurking and reading posts. I'm curious if anyone has fished Jerusalem Bay recently and what's working (specifically baits and locations if possible)? planning to go out this Saturday weather providing! Cheers!
