    Yakkas

Hi Jason Most of the yakkas west of the bridge will be caught around wharfs and jetties, with a boat i would target them in north harbour and middle harbour where there are endless supplies of them. Squidking.
  5. Here is a pic of the kings holding up over the wreck in middle harbour on the day i caught the fish. For those people who belive the king was not caught in middle harbour, think what you want. Cheers Thesquidking
  6. Hi guys, Sorry about the poor effort with the pic. I know for next time. The gear was a live fibre rod 15 to 24 kg, 50lb braid, 80lb leader and twin hook rig. Cheers
  7. Hi guys I hit the harbour quite late this morning with a 7am start, but with conditions so good i was confidant. Plan of attack for today was catch squid then fish for kings in middle harbour. I found the squid to be very scarce this morning and only managed 2 med size squid. With the 10:30am high tide fast approching i headed for middle harbour, sounded out a favourite wreck of mine and saw lots of bait and kings shadowing the bait schools. I set up the downrigger and sent the bigger of the two squid down, within no time the live squid got nailed big time!!!! With 50lb braid screaming off my reel like it was on free spool i quickly grabbed my rod and started to fight the beast. It was a torrid fight and i thought i would not see this guy as i hooked him very close to structure but for some reason he swam to open water, a few minutes later up comes a 93cm king! YES BABY! High fives all round and my day was done. What a great season we are going to have. Regards Thesquidking
  8. Hi guys, I hit the harbour early this morning in search of squid and it didnt take me long to find them, by 7:30am i caught 7 squid and dropped 1. With good reports of kingies being caught my hopes were high to say the least. I was not sure where i should try first, hit the main harbour? Try near Goat Island? But instead i thought ill try one of the many wrecks in middle harbour, if ones not firing try the next i told myself. First stop the sounder was showing alot of life. I could not even set my four rods before the first two hook ups! Dont you just love it when you drop your first bait and within seconds your reel starts screaming! I was fishing alone today but the next two hours i could not even sit down for two minutes as baits were getting hit one after the other. I ended up catching 9 kings and got dusted by 4 or 5 kings. The kings ranged from 67cm to 76cm. I kept the first 5 and released the rest. Excellent day on the harbour, the weather was great and the fishing was awsome. This season is going to be a ripper. 9. Hi guys I have been thinking about installing a rocket launcher on my boat and was wondering if any one knows where i can get them made around the sydney/ liverpool area? I am not to fussed whether s/s or alloy. My boat is a quintrex runabout 4.35m so i dont really want top of the range stuff just a decent rocket launcher that will store my rods neatly out of my way, although i dont mind paying for a quality job,as i seem to be taking more and more rods out every time. Hope someone can help. Regards Squidking.
  10. Hi guys Today i was looking at my fishing photo albums and came across my 6kg chopper picture that i caught a fair while ago while i was fishing for jew off the beach. I wanted to share with you guys a pic out of the norm and to show some anglers what can be caught not to far from sydney. The fish weighed at just over 6kg and caught on a whole squid bait in March 2005. Cheers.
  11. Thanks for the reply guys, The Dory was absolutely delicious for lunch today! Cheers.
  12. Hi guys With the water temp so cold i decided to fish the harbour today for some trevs and also throw a livey out for a dory. We ended up with a nice dory a swag of trevs a couple of bream a flatty a just legal whiting a few choppers some under sized snappers and a few yakkas. Not a bad catch for August. Cheers
  13. Hi guys Can someone tell me why my picture did not post up correctly? Thanks Thesquidking Hi squidking The picture has to be a jpeg or gif format. Your picture was a bmp format. If you open the picture in paint and save as jpeg THEN attach it to your post it will appear as above. Cheers mrsswordfisherman
  14. Hi Ali, I few years back my mate spent alot of time fishing for jew off Maroubra beach and did quite well although he did not catch big jew his biggest going 13kg from Maroubra, but got a heap up to 8kg. If you put in the effort and time with fresh baits sooner or later you will get into the jewies. Thesquidking
