  1. testlab

thats why we dont use it in boats it will eat things brass alloy rubber.i use methenol (100% alchole)as my fuel for my bikes just run 2stroke 98oct fuel thruogh when i am finished and a bout twice a year clean out the oil in the bowl.if you start your engine evey week or 2 weeks no need for draining the bowels.it will be fine

no stoush but you do put strain on your cyl walls and piston skirts for no reason

  2. had a quick word with my older brother who is a omc master tech.only time you run the carby dry is when you want to store the engine for some months and then ONLY with fogging oil sprayed into the engine while it is running via the open carby through were the air cleaner is.if i dont use my boat for a while up to 2 months i just start it up in the back yard on the ears every sunday after lunch

    cheers

  3. running a two stroke engine dry is the bigest mistake anyone can make.NEVER if you have pre mix because what you are doing is runing the engine WITHOUT LUBICATION no oil to lube the cyl walls means the piston will pick up on the wall of the cyl and ware.this in turn makes your motor have less compression so it run at a lower hp as the motor is not running as it should.

the add on tv for you car oil with all the little cells of oil clinging to your motor shows that oil is needed for lubing the motor.

take the grease out of your reels and see how long it lasts same as running you outboard dry dont do it.

if huey said to do this i would very much live him to put it in writing the benifets you motor get from running with no lube

my other hobby is building and racing classic dirttrack bikes and i know first hand what happens to a motor without lube

so all you outboard mechanics on this web page tell us the benifits of running a motor with out lubrication if only for a few seconds. they all ad up

  5. hi

i used to own a 18ft sharkcat it was just fine for eveything as long as you drove it properly never broadside to the swell.they are heavy and use 2 big motors if you have a landcruiser and money for service 2 motors and fuel they are the best.now have a seafarer viking after a vsea.mostly fish on my own now

    cheers

  6. hi

just recived my solar battery charger and all it is is a plate and some wires i was going to just sit it on the boat cover while in the back yard has anyone got 1 of these and how do you mount it my boat has a tarp over it all in the back yard

    thanks

    jim

  7. i did this to an 18ft cruise craft years ago but i took off the motor first it is very easy to do on and off in the back yard getting it back on dont hook the trailer on the car to wind it up the trailer will move under the boat

    cheers

  8. i had the same problem with my 70 yamaha changed the fuel pump all good now.if the motor runs when you use the bulb to prime the carbies and stops when you dont then the bulb is doing the job of the fuel pump.

    jim

and yes running the motor lean will destroy you motor as

1 not enough lube with fuel/oil

2 engine running hot chance of melting pistons

3 exesive ware from overheating and poor lubrication

  9. at least 25 years ago first gamefishing trip with botany bay game fishing club.fishing for makos.good burley trail mullet, bread soaked in whale oil(not leagle now}started at the shelf and drifted south east.after loseing 3 makos biting through 185kg wire put on a larger wire trace landed 1 and it was despatched to the front tired on via tail rope.last trace now used it was loaded with togles or s/s bars in the trace for holding on while gaffing sharks.put 4 small mullet onto a 12 or 14 shark hook.it sank as i was letting it out and stuck my 50lb game rod on the rod holder went for a break and a drink.the everol starting to screem now so i sunk the hook and hung on.thinking large mako here sat in the chair and started to give it the beans.big mistake after 3 hours owener of the 28 berty calls the fish a great white from up in the fly he saw some light and dark colour.another 30 mins up comes the bigest yellow fin i have ever sean and also to this date.the cycles were way past the tail fin.crew estemate well over 100kgs.the first toggle comes up and my mate grabs it and quote i got you now,i am out of the chair and over on the lhs of the berty.makes got the toggle trace and skipper tries to set the flyer in the sholders of the monster fin.he hits the head and only stirs up the fish.mate still has toggle locked in his hand and over he goes and under the water.silly me didnt back off the drag and the poor old everol spills off line again.it breaks thank god as the line was wrapped arond my mates wrist.he pops up by the burly bucket.quickly the other crew members drag him in white as a ghost.it was a 2 day comp and the next day i could on just reel the line in.chris got his wife to pick him up at stgmbc he wanted to go home.

this is a true story later that month a big yellow fin was caught off wollongong with a steel trace in it it was over 100kgs

chris has the line burn scar on his wrist stll.
