  1. Hodgy, My cousin and I will be spending all weekend of the election throwing Sp's and poppers around your magic water way.......Stewy H charted us there some weeks back and helped us smack 20 flathead on SP but we put most of the back, most 45cm plus - plus a 74cm job (he definitely went back)....good to see the waters warmed up and its popper time once again....
  2. Did anyone else catch the size of those Squid the dude from Adventure Bound (TVS Show) landed last night.....they were freakin huge.....never thought I'd see a squid make a Stella ZZZZZZZZZ....put my Botany Bay beauties to shame. I think he was down in Flinders Bay off South OZ...... That big fella must have gone 3 - 4 kg and was 3/4's the length of his leg strecthed out....
  3. Thanks for the info Roylo, I don't think I'd use it trolling either only for positioning when throwing plastics etc.
  4. Hi Raiders, I'm looking into buying an electric trolling motor for my 3.95m Alley Craft tinny. Saltwater use 100% of the time. I think I'll only need the 44lb given the size and probably shoot for a bow mounted. Although walking through one of the big department stores that also has a crack at selling fishing gear, I noticed a 44lb Watersnake (Javis Walker) transom mounted unit for $369. Any one care to review and tell me what the difference might be between brands, bow and rear mounts etc? Tackle sponsors - feel free to PM with your prices also if you like, I'm down in 'Gods Country' but have been known to travel to sniff out a bargain....
  5. On the APEC long weekend my cousin and I charted a gun south coast soft plastics charter dude (in Tuross) who told me that he's right into poppers also, but they don't start getting smashed really until Nov / Dec when the waters really start to warm up....something about whiting, bream and flathead are a little slow due to water temps etc. The guy seemed to know what he was talking about, he put us on about 20 flathead in 2.5 hours most between 40 to 50 cm's, one went 60 and another 71 all on plastics (let the big kids go and took only a couple for the table)....oh yeah and a bream that went 38cm....he must have had about $3-4,000 worth of hardbodies and poppers but as above says he doesn't normally pull them out until later in the year.
  6. I am boat based....typically the kids dictate most of my movements when down the coast, plus my cousin and I have charted a soft plastic specialist to help us with out technique down at Tuross for all day Saturday so I think my time on the water might be limited....perhaps some other time though...hence the night fish thought....
  7. Hey Raiders, Heading down to Lake Conjola for the long weekend thanks to MR Bush and his public holiday. Has anybody scored any Jewies down there in the last 5 years.....I think there are few deep holes west of 'The Steps'....anyone keen to share their secrets??? Thought I'd try and russel up a few Poddy's and give them a crack one night....or would you suggest 'plastics' might be the secret if they are around???? (first time targeting Jews so any tips would be greatly appreciated)
  8. I reckon they should bring in a bag limit of 20 on Trev's plus the 30 cm's size.....that way you might find among your 20 x 31 cm Trev’s that you bag a couple of the 55-60cm next year.....tell me that wouldn't be heaps more fun than skull dragging 25cm fish in the boat and taking 80 f them back to slaughter at the ramp...they are not the best tasting fish in the sea and you probably give some to the cat....just go back next week and catch another 20 if they are so prolific!!!!! Also they have to be fairly dumb fish and not phased by my much…..my cousin and I landed 8 in a quick session on Saturday at ‘Trevally Alley’ with 4 kids on board jumping up and down, making heaps of noise and just generally being ugly rugrats. Any fish that still get caught under those conditions could really use a helping hand……..
  9. Wow, I just asked if there was any other fishing shows on TV.....I didn't expect as a new member with just two stars and on my first post, you'd go to the trouble of producing an entire series for me, just so i could get my weekly fix of fishing on the box.....I'm looking at getting my house rendered and adding a second story, you don't want to cover off on that little desire at the same time do ya?
  10. That same pic is on Stotty Lyon's - Botany Bay report of a week or so back. There a link on Hunts Marine web page from memory, he said one of his students nail it from memory....whether it got the chance to swim again I'm not sure.
  11. Yep in fact I'm one of the hobbits that grew up, married and moved three times in 'The Shire', no doubt I will die and get burried in the shire too.
  12. Hi all, First post but love the site...... Tell me if I'm wrong but are there any fishing shows on the commercial networks at the moment? ET, Ifish and Rex no where to be seen (I know you can get all the re-runs of Fox).... I did notice Alex Julius had a morning show some months back. But now there's nothing..... I don't understand, given the nation is surrounded by the ocean, the number of rivers, lakes, estuaries, streams and dams available in this great country is astounding and from what I remember Fishing is considered one of Australia's most popular past times. Anyhow, given you are all die hard fisho's like myself, your probably all over it too, but a couple of months back I stumbled upon Adventure Bound 8.00pm Thursday nights on channel 31 (TVS) and Finshin Trip 7.30 pm Friday nights channel 31 (TVS). Both great shows, Adventure Bound is the pick for me, probably a little more professional than Fishin trip....my favourite episode was when they were smashing (and getting smashed by) massive Kings off Jarvis Bay trolling live squid off down riggers. That’s about it, so here’s a tip all you blokes: - get in early and do the dishes for your misses - tell her to have a soak in the bath from 8.00pm till 8.30 pm tonight - then hand over the remote so she can watch Sea Patrol, ER, CSI something or other trust me it's worth it. - (PS my misses tells me that a few of the guys are easy on the eye, so maybe she'll sit through Adventure Bound episode with you) (my apologies to all the female fish raider members for some of my gross male generalisations above, perhaps you'll be battling to pull the remote out of 'The Man's' hands and get it off the footy channel) See ya.
