  1. Hello again all, Just thought that I would write a small Bass report also. As I mentioned in my Carp report, I have been getting several very good Bass in the Nepean. Mainly between the weir at Penrith and Jacksons lane. Not too many above the weir, mostly small ones up there so far. I have heard reports from mates and other fisho's though that up the gorge they are also pulling some good fish. I have included a couple of photos of 40cm+ versions of the Bass, pity I was by myself so I couldnt get a descent photo. But the main thing is that the Nepean is prducing good numbers of good sized fish again. This is definately the best season in a long time for the Nepean river. Maybe it is because we had some good floods to get rid of the weed???? Who knows?? Its a pity that the weed is really starting to come back with the warmer weather, by the end of summer it will be choking the river back up again.. The Government really should do something to help. Anyway, here are a couple of pics of beautiful big healthy Bass from the Nepean. One is over 40 and the other 2 are just slightly under. All of them were of course released healthy and well!!!!
  2. As a lot of people are aware there have been huge numbers of boiling Salmon in and just outside the harbour. As most people are also aware - they can get a bit spooked by a boat. Of late there have been a lot of boats chasing the huge schools of Salmon in the harbour and just outside north head etc. which is fine. HGowever, my major issue is there are a few absolute dopes that come tearing into the school with their boat and spooking the fish so that everyone including themselves may get only one cast at them (if you are quick) before the fish bugger off again and you need to wait for them to resurface somewhere else. It is very frustrating that these few deadsh*ts ruin everyones fishing. I would love to throw each and every one of these dopes off north head so that they can sleep with the fishes. I have had a few good sessions where only 4 or 5 boats are around a school and keeping their distance as much as possible and everyone is getting constant hook ups - one after another fish are being bought to the boats. Everyoine gets fish and has a heap of fun. Please - if you are one of the ones that kills the motor of your boat only 1 metre from the boiling school - learn from this post - give the fish a 10 metre or so buffer zone. Otherwise neck yourself - either way it would make me happy. If you are one of the great anglers that keeps their distance from the school and has some idea of how to enjoy your fishing - I would love to fish with you any time. Thats my whinge for the year!!!
  3. Hey all, Went out for a fish the other day in and just outside Sydney Harbour mainly in the hope of some Salmon - they are a lot of fun. We couldnt find any on this particular day which was a shame so we decided to have a bit of a bottom bounce to see if we could get any good mowong or snapper etc. We got a few trevally of course and then we started getting bitten off. My mate changed to a smaller long shank hook and surprise surprise - up came a leather jacket. They were really in plague proportions. I kept the bigger baits out but changed one rod over to a long shank. I then caught possibly the most greedy fish in the world. This bastard had 2 of my mates hooks in its mouth (My mate was greatful that he got them back) and a third which was mine that I bought him in on. The bugger was still eating with two hooks stuck in his mouth. I had to put up a picture of this greedy a**hole. The main thing is that we got our hooks back and he cooked up quite nicely. Him and about 10 of his friends. We had a nice big feed. Hopefully this weekend will give me more success. Saturday I am heading out to chase some Salmon and Kings and then on Monday I will head out for some Jew. Lets see if the Hawksbury can produce some fish for me again!! Good luck fishing everyone!!
  4. Hey there all. Has anyone else found that big Port Jackson sharks are in plague proportions? I went out the Saturday before last and got three of them and then last weekend I got another one in my usual flathead drift near lion island. They are not small either. I dont understand what is going on - are they breeding at the moment or something?? This is just one of them.
  5. Well thanks for letting me know what that filthy slimy mongrel fish is. A green toad!! Filthy bastard of a fish. Lets hope that the Jew continue!!!

    Nepean Bass

Just to clear something up though - You can release the carp although it is frowned upon by most Fisho's. A mate of mine called the fisheries about it and they told him that they should be killed really but it is only illeagal to put Carp back into the waterway's in Victoria, not NSW. So for all of you who love a good carp session - feel free to place all of the Carp back into the water that you catch. Just dont be surprised if a Bass fisherman hits you over the back of the head with a bat!! My mate releases them as he says that they are bigger and a better fight than bass anyway on most occasions so he wants them all to get huge to increase his fun. I think that there is something not right with him!!
  7. Well, I have found the one and only Jew that lives in that desolate wasteland of a river. I was begining to think that there were no Jew left in the river as all of the eels and catfish had taken over and made it their own. Had a good day out a little while ago. Sun was shining, fish were biting, beer was cold, footy on the radio - No women around to harrass me. Great day!!! If people know the system then they will know where I picked this up. Its normally my never fail spot during the summer. Many Jew picked up there last summer but have not got a lot of anything (except the pests) lately anywhere in the river. Also went out last weekend around to Bluefish point. Weather was a bit ordinary but we braved it for a while even after I had a small chunder early on. ha ha. Havent been sick in years and I get sick on my own boat. We sat for a while burleying up in the hope of some nice snapper or kings to come up off the reef, but no success. We then started to head back around towards north head when we saw the huge boil on the surface from a huge school of salmon. We couldnt resist as they are a lot of fun. (although can get bored after a while as they are a bit too easy to hook up) Caught about 20 or so between a mate and myself on the metal lures. All between about 55cm and 70cm. Nice fight on small gear. Lots of fun. Sorry - only got pics on the phone which I have not uploaded onto the PC yet. Anyway here is a pic of the Jew and can someone please tell me what the hell this other fish is. I have caught 2 now - one at Yamba and one at Port Stevens. Filthy slimy bastards they are!!! Thanks, Mr A

    Nepean Bass

Hey mate, I will probably be down there myself with a mate or 2 on sunday. I will be taking worms though as I have not had much success on lures so far this year. (of course I will take the flick stick and lure case down as well) I have been picking up small bass on worms near the weir for about 6 weeks or so now. I normally get down the river to start the season from the start of August the last couple of years as they are coming back earlier and earlier each year. I have been fishing the Nepean system for about 20 years or so I would say and the river has not been in this good condition (except that it is still very dirty after all the rain weeks ago) for about 10 years. I am very excited about the up and coming season. There are several spots further down toward Yarramundi which are more productive for bigger bass but I wont target them until I start getting some near the weir. These spots are a lot harder to get to. Very inaccessible without a Yak. (reminder to self: Buy a Yak asap) It should be another bumper carp season this summer too. Big boys up to about 9-10kgs near the bridge. I know that they are a filthy fish, but big fish and fun fight all the same. If I see you there then I will trot up and say hello.
  9. Andy, Mate I wouldnt worry too much - You should always abide by the rules of the fisheries of course, but it seems to me a lot of people like to get on their high horse and preach on here!! You already said that you hooked it in the Gills - the poor bastard was going to die anyway. I suggest just ignoring people that have a go at you mate - Keep fishing and cherish the fact that you have made a great capture - a fish Good, bad or indifferent, that many of us on here could not say that we have caught!!! Everyone else, especially a particular few, Lets all just stick to congratulating a good catch and sharing success and funny failure stories rather than hammering a bloke hey!! We are all in a forum like this because we are passionate about our fishing and therfore respect the waterways and the fish that come from them. Lets keep that in mind next time someone puts up some photos of a unusual or special catch!! Those who are jealous, go out and target the species and get one yourself!!!!

I have been to the same spot - coroboree. Good little fishing hole there. We picked up some great Barra - Up to 82cm, which wasnt bad for June. I also had a really good guide named Mark. Cant remember his last name though as it was last year and the memory is pretty ordinary these days!! I have been a member for quite a while too and never upload anything. Maybe I should show some photos of the Jew I got on my last trip up the Hawksbury?? Anyway, great catches there mate, Barra and Saratoga. I notice though that you didnt show the catfish that I am sure you had to contend with. ha ha ha
  11. Yeah, I can vouch for that DVD too, it does gove you some good hints, but of course everyone has their secret spots which noone gives up until they are on their death bed! I was lucky enough to know an older gentlemen who told me of a super spot for Jew. Further inland towards spencer. Really nice drop off - it rarely fails. I have picked up lots of nice Jew here. Obviously I cannot give up the whereabouts of this spot as I am not on deaths door yet - I am still too young! I suppose the moral of the story is..... make sure that you make friends with people when you are out on the water. You never know when you might get lucky and find an old senile guy that will give up his gun spots!!!! ha ha ha
