Singles work well on larger poppers. Use the decoy jigging singles with the inline eye and they are perfect for the job.

Spearos get in the way alot once sun is up...get there early.

Global knife....awesome for working on fish like kings....wouldnt trade it in at all...

Tried to PM but didnt work. I know we arent meant to put links to other places, but go to this shop and he is good to deal with. He sells gear you wont find at all in Australia. Patriot gear is nice and very limited here but has some great light tackle gear thats not available here either.

Not likely to be a rebranded saltiga. Saltiga have very nice blanks and rods like the 80TN are awesome....and retail in the hundreds...ie. 500 plus...you wont be getting anything like that for $75.

PR knot, FG knot, twisted leaders. All of those will cast through small guides and not choke the cast as there are no bulky parts of the knot.
-
Metals like sea rocks in small sizes, snipers, raiders in 25grams, small minnows.....bonnies hit them all the time.
-
Use the smith wax and its great. Else , use candle wax. Lubricants should be used on rod joints.
-
No worries. Will run them through the drag meter. It should work , though the meter is for braid. Else will do the spring loaded scale.

4500 Catalina...sounds right . Mine does the same.
Saltist 30th...too low. I am sure mine pulls more and I dont have carbontex in it yet.
Loading up through the rod will give you a different drag reading. I always test mine through the rod so I know what the combo will do in the field. Tie up to a tree and load up to test it out.

Macs have a black dot near the gill raker /pec fin region.
-
Mullet are just as good....

For bream the smaller riv2sea, stiffys and those type will be fine. For tailor, halco rooster poppers are a good start.
Metals- spanyid raiders and snipers are the ones I recommend.

Yep, thats about right for the record. Some 50kgs were in the latest nz fishing mag. Pretty sure they max out around the 60kg mark.
And yep, the tele isnt the most accurate source of truth.

Abu7500C3 are great at casting, but even with carbontex or smooth drag the drag isnt as good as other reels out there. Depending on the line class you want to use, look at the saltist o/h or toriums. And you can upgrade the drag stacks in those if needed (carbontex and drag stack metals) and it will pull even more. They are under $300.

It was the length, not the weight.

I picked up an o/s twinpowers several hundred dollars cheaper than one here. And twinpowers here are almost identical to the stella prices...as long as you are aware of the pros and cons , go for it. I support my local as much as possible, but some things are just to expensive due to the pricing polices the distributors have here.

How much do you want to spend...if you have the cash then Varivas avani from Japan. If you want something a bit more budget orientated, then tuf line.
-
The runway area holds a few of these big guys. Picked one up as well from there a few years ago on the troll on a small minnow. Great fun !

I would leave jigs out of carry on to be safe. Long thing and metal, they will slow you up through xray and then they may not let you take them on. No hooks or line line allowed on carry on either.
Rods...not sure - depends on your airline, ring in advance and check. Mine, even the short ones have gone in luggage not carry on.
-
If you are going on a trip, probably best to stick with something that has a proven reputation than find out on a big fish the reel cant perform to the specs.

Tailorman. ...those saltist 30th's are great..Love mine for spinning with.
Scotty, flat out retrieves for bonnies and sambos isnt needed. I prefer higher geared reels as you can slow down, but anything with 5.2:1 and up will do and make it easier. I used a shimano sienna 2500 for ages and that was 5.2:1 and was no probs. The saros is 5.7:1 and would work too. Not sure why daiwa dont have a small reel that has 5.7:1 and above. The saltist is quick and thats a 4000 size. I have a 4500 size daiwa that has a 5.3:1 ratio and no issues using it for high speed spinning.

If you put the normal sneaker shoe liners in it helps to stop your foot rubbing on the head of any bolts or bulges as well. In winter, wearing the rockhoppers it is much more comfortable and keeps your feet warm..

I put cleats on the bottom of my rockhoppers as well. Works well...

Will look forward to reading the news this summer of newbies that get flattened at these spots this summer ! Might want to elaborate on the dangerous climbs down, iffy water level rocks, broken in cars, and idiots that cause trouble at these spots too.
