  1. I think you more so need experience rather than boat size (although it helps). Take the boat 'Tycon' for example. These guys are gurus on the sharks, they caught two 530kg tigers on 15 within a week in 2006 up at Port....they fish out of a 6.2m Seafarer, they know what they're doing. BUT, I wouldnt go stick a gaff into a mako if it was my first trip and I have had no experience with them....suicide!! They can be extremely dangerous and everything is amplified when you're miles out to sea! And yeh the stories are true. Some of the ones I have heard are makos eating witchdoctors and ripping the back of boats out (dont tow them on wire!), another one is of a mako which jumped into a trailer boat and chewed up all the few lines while thrashing around the deck before the skipper somehow got him out (yeh its true, heard it from the skipper himself) and also mako's suddenly coming to life on the way home is one I hear a lot!! They are nuts thats why i dont gaff them Dan
  2. Through the lack of fin off sydney now and the appearance of bigger fish Kiama and Bermi way it sounds like they have moved south (or the warm water eddy has moved south)...73kg fish weighed the Bermi on the weekend
  3. Fished yesterdayy for 0's. Was veeeeery slow out there, weather wasn't too bad biy bumpy but the fishing was terrible in comparison to the last few weeks that our boat and others have experienced. Very little chatter on the radio for the boats that were out, didn't hear of even one YFT being caught, all talk of stripies and one blue. Seemed dead except for a few stripies....I know Ross was out on Broadbill will be interesting to see if he faired better....good luck mate, but the although I hate to say it they may have moved on for now!! We fished 10 miles south of the mountain on the canyons in 20.4deg water, boats on browns didnt see anything either, the temp there was similar... hope you fair better, Daniel
  4. Fished today for 0's. Was veeeeery slow out there, weather wasn't too bad but the fishing was terrible in comparison to the last few weeks that our boat has experienced. Very little chatter on the radio for the boats that were out, didn't hear of even one YFT being caught. Seemed dead except for a few stripies....I know Ross was out on Broadbill will be interesting to see if he faired better Thats fishing Daniel
  5. The other thing that people need to realise is that not every YFT is sitting right on top of Browns!!! There are other places to fish lol!! We have always caught more fish away from the mosh rather than in it...
  6. Henderson has released a Lowdown Ink Tuna Guide, similar to the marlin one that was posted here a coupla months ago but the weight charts are for tuna. I assume they would be the most accurate for Australian YFT.... Daniel

    Tuna Gear

Tiagra on both acounts. I think a better comparison would be Tiagra 50W vs. Penn Inter 50VSW. Nothing against the Daiwa, I just reckon these two are closer. Daniel
  8. Well said mate . You and Rob dominate us big boats anyway when it comes to taggin beaks haha. Have seen Rob's 'etiquette' towards the big boats on the videos lol, very nice.... Daniel
  9. Dont even talk about the carpark especially interclub time lol!!! Its like browns on a busy day ten fold but there are boats backing up left right and centre. With so many boats drifting live baits 10 metres away from each other dont be surprised if your marlin pops up on the other side of the boat next ya lol It is frustrating but sometimes thats how it is Daniel
  10. When I need to resize pics I just send them to myself on hotmail and that does the job.....
  11. Well done mate, looks like all the homework paid off!!
  12. I heard the big fish have slowed down, from the report above it seems the jellybeans are out in force!!!! Lets hope the barrells come back!!
  13. Easily the best bait you can put out for Big Yellowfin. Only thing is finding the Nannygai is harder than finding the fin lol!!!
  14. Cliff, were there many fish being caught? Heard they have moved South, Kiama way Daniel
  15. Plankton, the pillies were cut into three for the cubes, but the baits that went onto the hooks were full pillies not cubes....we throw a couple of cubes in at a time, wait for them to disappear and then throw another couple...works for me!!! James, looks smaller in the photo for some reason but about 150kg I'd say....wish we could have had a better look but we were trying to get it to f*** off as we had a double hook up on fin at the time lol Daniel Daniel
  16. Hi mate, we used 10kg of Pillies but remember it was only for a half day. 20kg would do the job for a full day of cubing Daniel
  17. Thanks boys, was the best 2.5 hours of YFT fishing I have experienced! Daniel
  18. hey scon, they were caught on 10kg and 24kg.
  19. Gday guys, had a very late start to the day leaving the bay at 1.00pm as we were preoccupied during the morning! With all the reports of fin we pushed out at 26 knots to reach our destination a few miles SE of browns. for our first go at the fin this year. Water temp was hovering around 21.6 and straight away we set the trail. Within 10 minutes we had a double hookup on sizeable fin, half hour later both were gaffed and into the boat, great fish for anglers first and a top start to the day!! Lines back into the water and we hooked up straight away on 24kg to another good similar sized fin which was brought to the boat in about 20 minutes and gaffed, another one on the deck in just half an hour of fishing, and mid 40'kgs for the lot of them!! However we were down one gaff after a fish bent the pole!! The chaos on deck was organized and again the lines went back in the water, this time with a 10kg outfit for some fun. Of course it was the 10kg that went off and an approximate 35kg fin (which didn't realise it was hooked for half the fight!) was brought to the boat fairly easily and gaffed for number 4 within the hour!! Again the lines went back in in search of more fin that were on the chew! We noticed a couple of tuna birds working the back of the boat and straight away to rods buckled over with power as line peeled off. Another mid 40's fish was brought to the boat and its line was reset, however the other fish proved stubborn as it was tail wrapped, make it a pain in the ass to gaff Plus a Big Blue Shark decided to make an appearance in our trail, although it didn't seem to affect the fin!! Last but not least, late in the day as the tail wrapped fish was being fought another rod went off with yet another 40+ fin gaffed. The deck was full of fish and blood and as the sun was setting that did us for the day!! Got back home at 6pm for a big cleanup and to fillet the fish. Great to get out on the water on a beautiful day for our first go on the fin, not bad for a Half Day!! Shaping up for a good Sponsors day! Daniel
  20. Caranx, with YFT being the target I'd say the boats would troll till they find some good water/birds/bait etc. and then they will set the Cube trail for the rest of the day...so majority would be cubing I'd say... Daniel
  21. Maybe a mid sized Avet or an Accurate Boss Magnum??
  22. Yep, definately no need for a chair for 24kg tackle and below. A dedicated chair rod first of all has a longer butt which isnt suited for stand up fishing at all, and the rod itslef (blank) is actually longer. There are also more subtle differences as both rods serve a different purpose, hence they are built differently. How about you just remove the chair and fit a light tackle station, reelax makes two variations with a simple rocket launcher or prep board. Daniel
