  1. Looked like a fantastic day had by all. Unfortunate you had a run in with other anglers. There's always someone out there who gets a bee in the bonnet! Don't let them defeat you!
  2. For catch amd release on sp amd lures can't beat the Cooks River
  3. The spotted dog pattern, brown trout pattern and perch pattern favourite models are x raps cd and j series are my favourite models
  4. They are a finicky bloody fish. 1. Weed types well some days it does not matter where the wed csme from or what colour or texture it is! They're hungry amd after a feed amd if you burley with what you fish with you get fish. Other days botany weed outfishes parramatta weed or they'll only look at cabbage. It's what they're tuned in on. I always say fish with whats local. So if your in the habour aomevnice Parra weedcor cabbage amd if your in the George's some nice botany weed. I still maintain they're visual feeders but at times scent amd colour and texture makes a difference 2. The fly, they're visual feeders and at times so ravenous real or artificial does not matter. moral of the above carry a variety of different coloured flies amd or bait! 30 years amd I'm still learning
  5. Just go to the DPI website it will tell you what you need to know! As for the Cooks it's really a catch and release fishery. Amd a bloody good one at that!
  6. Good effort. And good tailor for the Cooks . Goes to show even though the substrate is polluted the water clarity has fish moving up there. It's a lot healthier than when I grew up on it in the 1980's
  7. Hit North Habour again this morning trying a new spot found using the trusty street directory (yes I still have one). We ended up with a dozen amd all but one on the fly which Paul got. Trevor amd I got the rest on bait. Still a good session and back out at it again tomorrow.
  8. Mate the bream I have found a little tougher but I'm working on them amd some flies I think will work well in shallow water. Quite small size 8 and 6. I'll put a pic up when I finish them. I found bream are more of a dead drift slow twitch technique amd cast to sighted fish or structure with very fine tippet.
  9. Nice going there lads. Once the water clears a bit looking to target a few bream on the fly. In the meantime I'll be sticking with the luderick get into whilst theyre tuned in!
  10. Mate burley does help tune them in to feeding in both forms but I have found they are a visual feeder and when wet the dubbing feels like the real thing. But when they are aggressive and schooled up it does not seem to matter. I had one hit so hard the other day it stripped line through my hand on the take! They can be aggressive little buggers.
  11. Opening weekend your best fishing up around 4 mile trail amd Kiandra especially if we get big rain in September. The rainbows will push up. I do recommend catch and release of the bows as their numbers are lot lower in the system than the browns and the idea is to try to get them to recruit!
  12. Mate normally they move into the estuaries to winter around late April early May. They fatten up develope the roe amd milk ready to run back to the entrances of rivers and bays to spawn either at the mouths or out in the ocean through the spring and sometimes early summer. They have been very late this year. Saying that some fish are already starting to get quite full milk sacks developed, no females as yet. It seems a lot of fish are out of whack this year. The Murray cod stayed on the chew quite late in the Macquarie system amd the trout look like they will run late this year. But that's nature you never can tell when she will do something different.
  13. Look on the ocean rocks. And there's plenty of luderick over summer indict it's when I get my best catches
  14. They're just moving in they have been very high and miss the two months prior. They are a month late moving in I reckon!
  15. Hit North Habour with Josh and one of his workmates today for a crack at the luderick down near the heads to see if they're running in. They did not disappoint the boys got 15 on the weed baits whilst I managed 6 on the fly again. Big numbers are starting to show amd it looks like it's shaping up for a good winter run. Kept 14 to share for a feed and happy days once more.
  16. Personally not a split shot guy for fly fishing but it works well! I prefer swinging a big tungsten cone head zonker fly with a trailing glo bug or upstream nymph with a double tungsten bead nymph amd glo bug. Weight your line according to the flows. And yes all rivers designated trout waters close midnight this coming Monday amd reopen October long weekend in NSW.
  17. It's a fly fishers heaven for trout! Google is your friend loads of guides. Look around the net mate you will find loads. Chile amd Patagonia have some awesome fishing.
  18. Public access available at Denison campground, providence portal where the cabins are. The alpine sawmill fire trail, 4 mile trail at Sawyers hut off the highway amd at Kiandra. The Eucumbene is on Snowy Hydro amd National parks land with Snowy Hydro allowing public access. Please respect the access rules at Denison. It's a great fishery but this year has been tough. Sorts the once a year trout Angler's out from the rest! Lol. To date my best seasonsco. The Eucumbene have been 2014 and 2015. Check DPI website they have loads of info. Hope the above helps
  19. Tie them myself Regan. You can get get a good quality fly from that online world wide site!
  20. It's ice dubbing by Tiewell you can no longer get it, in the process of looking for a substitute.
  21. Okay so they're not on the surface. I use a bead head weed fly leader is level 8lb fluro carbon length to suit the water depth minimum length I run is 9 feet on Saturday I was running a 15ft leader, I add an indicator to the leader and honk it. I use the NZ indicator tool system. I run a floating fly line. So essentially indicator numphimg technique. Works a treat. I have included a picture of the flys.
