  1. Luderick have always been my passion and so has fly fishing, of late I've just been going through the motions on the long rod and cemtrepin. With all the surface activity and a few trout trips I've got fly fever and the challenges it presents, well let's just say we had fun and it paid off! I'll let the pictures do the topic justice, but in brief found the luderick after a few lean trips and they liked the fly 11 fish in total all caught on fly by Myself and good mate Paul in the lower reaches of The habour. Enjoy.
  2. Actually spawn season for blackfish is early spring to early summer! They winter in the estuaries then run out to the headlands and bays to recproduce late August September. I have caught them full of roe right up until February! On the subject of fly if they are tuned in on artificial then that's what I now prefer much more of a challenge.
  3. I have been doing a bit shore based lately in the Parra River and have hooked some good Kings amd salmon in shallow bays it's magic mate. You can throw a perfect imitation a mile where you could not on a spin stick! Invest in a good outfit if you choose to as it will last a lifetime as opposed to a cheaply! Here's a salmon from a shallow bay in Five Dock land based!
  4. Times like this is where eye flies and a good 8 weight comes into its own
  5. I'll catch you next time Neil. Heard you run into a few of the boys! They told me the fishing was tough.
  6. It's never been about numbers for me. I am there for the surroundings amd for me it's the sight the stalk the cast the presentation and ultimately the take! Landing a fish is a bonus!
  7. The fish did not really move up heading back now three of us managed total of 18 fish and even the rain did not move a lot of fish. Most fish caught were between 2 and 4 pound. Speaking to a few guys and everyone found it hard. Even the spin brigade!
  8. Mate I'll keep it simple any good soft to medium action 2-5kg low mount rod in 10 to 12 foot for the estuary will suffice. Reel a decent 2500 spin if you can't handle a cemtrepin, for a float ones that take 0 amd 1 size barrel sinkers. 6lb fluro carbon trace and 12lb main in case of sawtail surgeon activity! Greased mono is fine nothing wrong with it old school or not it's just an extra chore! To rig add a sliding rubber topper on your line then a small bead, then your float barrel sinker and a small swivel about 40cm of trace and I prefer mustad 540 number 8 hooks hard to go past. Additionally bait and burley a landing net and a keeper. Pick a spot and fish either side of the tide to see what works best. Have your float a level to the water as conditions allow I normally have mine sitting half a centimetre if that above the water unles it's choppy or a string current. Good luck oh and there's no right or wrong way in the world of luderick fish the way that suits you amd catches you fish. A good place to start for a spot is Clarkes Point at Woolich
  9. Cheers for the day out. Your wife's pizza scrolls are awesome put an order in for the next trip!
  10. Had a top morning on the habour with John, the Guru and Trevor. We managed 18 fish by 10am lots of throw backs and plenty of dropped fish. The luderick hav really come on in the habour this last few weeks. All fish taken on weed.
  11. Mate bream on weed are quite common I have caught a lot in the habour on weed over the years. Particularly when in spawning mode as they are now. Great catch as well. The island can get nasty on a rising tide in any decent southerly bump!
  12. Yep young whipper snappers! Though Luke did very well dropping as many as he landed! He would have had his bag limit and then some if he did not drop al it of fish! Still for a young bloke just starting he held his own! He will make a gun blackfisherman!
  13. Mate when your in town we will take you out for a few!
  14. Good stuff Burger you do better than most blokes who go there! How many buckets of burley to get them going??
  15. Well I fished yesterday with Paul and Trevor for a big donut! Trevor said you should have been here yesterday!!!! Well today was the day. Wemt to one of Dads old eastern suburbs haunts I. The habour he loved dearly for a solo session. A bus and train ride had me in Rose Bay and walking the track to a nice little rock ledge by day break. Things were slow to start no downs for three hours and I thought bugger not here! Well about half todevin they come on downs every drift I had my bag limit by 11am and was still catching and releasing by 12. Called it quits around top of the tide. Quick happy snap released three amd kept 7 for a few friends. Should have been here today!
  16. Good stuff Andrew. Looks like the fish are making their run inside. As for the ups I would say fish swimming up in the burley and sitting higher in the water column. I know your method of depth findings the one I showed you so I don't think you were too deep!
  17. Nice fish there good to see other eop into the luderick!
  18. Long soft 12 foot rod amd a cemtrepin reel traditional blackfish gear. Sometimes you get lucky on 6lb!
  19. Size 6 mustard suicde 9265 pattern, 6lb leader amd 12lb float line. And a noodle of a rod with a 4 inch pin!
  20. I've met some great people here who are now best friends that I fish every week with can't take that away!
  21. Thanks for the kind words Donna. I have met some lovely people and enjoyed helping some out. Don't worry I'll keep the reports coming....
  22. Met up with Cossie amd Trevor for another session off the rocks. A glorious morning with a very low swell, meant finicky fish. The first lot of downs produced multiple bust offs from big pigs on light gear before I turned one amd landed it. Plenty of downs on the luderick but the water was clear and the wash inconsistent. Trevor amd Cossie dropped heaps as did I. All in all we ended up with a good feed. nice to meet you Cossie amd a really enjoyable morning with great scenery!!!!
  23. Met with Andrew this morning for a session at the luderick off the stones. Again a top sunrise light westerly. Amd a dropping tide amd swell saw us into fish from the word go! A lot of lost fish for Andrew amd a few dropped by myself. Called it at 11am with 9 luderick and two nice pigs for a few feeds. Great morning and thanks for the company Andrew.
  24. Hi raiders For those looking at fishing the river for the big browns this year and the future there will be a gate at the campground. This means you will no longer be able to drive direct to the river from Denison campground. There will be a system to allow for access for limited ability Angler's. For more info check the DPI website.
