  1. Ads, Went out from terrigal this morning, heavy fog hung around for a while then burnt off and was a glorious morning. Had two reds in the esky straight up and then fish became hard to find, moved around a lot and bagged a few mowies , flatty's ,blurters and a stack of vermin, wind came up about lunchtime so back to the ramp it was .Going out off Broken bay with my daughter tomorrow to see what we can pick up out there. Good luck Bruce
  2. Thanks guys for all your input, I have made my decision and the winner is .....................Furuno Ls6100 Cheers Bruce
  3. G'day Netic, thanks for that link mate will look into it. Shadda, sound advice , i will be going into this with my eyes open. Cheers Bruce
  4. Thanks for your info guy's, all taken on board but the victim seems like it will be a Furuno ls6100. This unit seems to suit my needs aswell as being a quality bit of gear, imported from states $520.00au. What do you guys reckon. Bruce
  5. I know them as cockys, a regular bycatch off the rocks. Don't bother with them as a table fish , better off eating the table!!! Bruce
  6. G'day Whitecaps, Thanks for your input mate , as much as a colour sounder would look good on the dash , i think that a quality b/w unit with a good resolution would be my next stepping stone in the world of high tech , My current sounder is a liarbird dx 200 with a screen picture that looks as if it's made out of lego blocks, that said it does keep me in contact with the bottom (even at speed ) at the depths that i do most of my fishing. I have my area pretty well sorted and seem to catch plenty of quality fish, but would really like to see a clearer picture of what IS going on down there. Thanks Bruce
  7. G'day all, A new sounder is on the cards and i wouldnt mind a bit of input from you guys. My budget is about $500 , most of my fishing is done offshore in upto about 80 m , i am impressed with the furuno and lowrance units in this price range any other suggestions or experience with said units would be greatlly appreciated. Cheers Bruce
  8. Thanks Blackfish, Your I.D looks pretty close to me, another mystery fish gets made.I will comit that to the memory bank and impress the crew next time one comes over the side. Bruce.
  9. None taken Roberta ,But i did think that somebody might be able to ID this fishy. Bruce
  10. Sorry Guys, I didnt even think that i had posted, I was trying to put a photo with it before i put it up for your learned opinions to hopefully come up with an answer. The reason for the lack of photo is that i am a computer numbskull and have not been able to master the art of posting photos on this site (Or any other for that matter ) . So with any luck i will nut out the photo posting bizz and we can see if we can identify my catch. Thanks again Bruce
  11. G'day all, Caught this off Terrigal on sunday, has anyone got an i.d on this one for me ? Thanks Bruce
  12. Mate, they are silver trevally, they go like stink at that size!!!
  13. G'day all, I have just put a new trailer under my boat , it was to replace the trusty 30 year old jawar. IT tows like a dream, is a joy to launch and retrieve and looks great aswell . Do you guys think i'm happy or wot!!! Bruce
  14. Don't know why they do it marty , but i see that sort of thing all the time when i'm walking the hound along the forshore and out on the jettys between Long Jetty and The Entrance. Some of 'em are BIG BUGGER'S . Glad to see you had a great time with the kids, it's not easy to bait hooks, untangle knots , stop fights and keep them interested long enough to catch some fish .Well done mate.
  15. Went out from terrigal yesterday , picked up some great fish, Mowies, Reds, Flatties , 1 nice pearl perch(2 kg) . Best part of the day ?....... Didn't see a leatherjacket all day!!!! Poacher, be ready to do battle with the holiday boaters at any central coast ramps, Be patient or better still , give 'em a hand, still the best way to keep that queue moving and tempers under control. Bruce
  16. Mate, The only way to tell is to get up early and stick your head outside the house and have a look for yourself. Seriously , even on a 1/2 decent day you should have little trouble getting to west reef, But if your not confident, or doubtful on the day stick to what you know. Bruce
  17. Marty, Just be warned ,It is near impossible to get a drift going in any of the channels in tuggerah lakes without running aground, or colliding with someone else, especially during holday times. I think you will find it less stressfull with the kids if you find yourself a bit of a drop-off close to one of plentifull weedbanks and try those poddys & shrimp lightly weighted or under a float , i reckon you will have a good chance of gettin' a feed. Have Fun!!!!
  18. Marty, I noticed you will be fishing at The Entrance soon so try lip hooking thoose poddys and suspending them under a float, Not only will it produce fish but float fishing is a sure fire winner with the kids!! Good luck and let us know how ya go.... Ps. Most lizards in the lakes are only average size so those 5&6 cm poddys will do just fine. Bruce Ooops, got me smilie in the wrong spot
  19. Marty, Also some stud whiting to be had in the north channel especially if there is a bit of a southerly happening (live shrimps are the go), Just scoop the ribbon weed with a fine mesh scoop choose the bigger ones and pop 'em on a #1 hook. Good luck mate
  20. Well, such a warm welcome ,Thanks to all for their greetings. To Rubes, Yes mate it has everything to do with bananas being bad luck at sea, Keep an eye out for me at terrigal ramp as i launch there all the time, just look for the old seafarer 1/2 cab called 'NO BANANAS' see ya on the water! Bruce
