This event was at a well known LBG ledge. It was crazy to go for a fish in that swell and that direction. But anyone that fishes these min north ledges knows that steel caps are a good choice of footwear. Alot of the ledges are high and directly above deep water and pretty fishable in some good swell. However his experienced friends should have known better.

Mate, better get some gear in a hurry. Peak seasson now for a few more weeks, then it is a long wait between runs, but they will still come. Entry level rod possible for around $100. You will want a TLD 25 to put on it. That will be tough to get second hand with that butget but. Spooled up with 15kg covers you for Blues, Cobes and Kings.

Mc Goo 8 inch saurie. Does'nt catch all the fish but every fish we have raised in the last 2 seasons has come up onto it first. I don't have any spares anymore, so I do not know what I will do when I lose it. Any good coopy's out there??

Some photo's just recieved from mate. Hooked SE of Peak, 23.5 water. Caught and released Friday 20.03.09.

Got a 90kg Stripe 3NM SE of Peak on Friday. 23.5degree water. Went out to the shelf due east of Plonky to find a temp break before shelf up to 24.5 degree, so worked back and forth the temp break for 4 hrs for nothing. Decided to run home via Peak and got him up on the short corner less than 10m from boat, 3 cracks and he was on. Nice conditions, first fish we haved tagged, 4th fish we have hooked, so bout time one stuck.
Get out there while the conditions are good for small boats, anything can happen!!

Just after some info on getting into some pelagics around Pittwater. Like where to get some livies and where to fish them. Mainly be looking for Kings or maybe even Cobes at this time of year. Staying on the hawkesbury with my girlfriend and the in-laws for a few days and hope to get a fair bit of fishing done before they wake up.
Any tips would be great as it is new ground for me. My boat is big enough to get offshore and out the front of Barrenjoey if thats what I have do.

is catching live bait off sydney rock ledges possible? when you watch lbg videos from places like jervis bay for example, you see them catch bait at their feet from where they would be fishing.
i've never been able to source bait from the same fishing spot, always had to transport them from elsewhere.
Most spots have something there. No bait no fish. Get there in the dark and berley hard. Just before sunrise seems to be thee best

Off the rocks it's gotta be slimies, if you can get the buggers. If there is slimies on the ledge at night, there's predators on the ledge by day. Never seen long tails or cobes smashing bait balls of yakkas, btu seen the longtails in particular smashing, slimies and gars. Has anyone heard of Marlin falling for other baits, exept bonnies and frigates off the rocks ? Would like to know of some other options

Mate, you can't beat the tld 25's for durability and performance for longtails and cobes. Spooled up with 15kg mono, 60lb trace,un wieghted livies, and alot hours on the ledges. Not too familar with south coast ledges but. Also the tld's are light wieght for those long walks. Harbour Kings are a different style of fishing and I don't think you can get a compromise outfit that will do both perfectly. You might be only on the rocks a couple of times a year, so don't waste it. The the right gear. 1 tuna of the stones is worth a full season of harbour kings.

Got the same rod a couple of months ago with longtail tuna in mind. Very, very impressive spin rods. Look way to skiny, but boy can they belt 85g raiders a mile with absolute ease.

Sorry about that lost fish mate, my fault. I guess you call it a learning experience, but i am not quite prepared to give up stunt fishing on 8kg LBG gear yet, but may pick the time to bring it out a bit more carefully next time. Great day but mate, thanks

Nice filletted and skinned crumbed and fried fresh. Cut the blood line out and you don't end up with much fillet, but they are really, really good. Trust me

Get live baits, Depth can matter, but an slightly wieghted or unweighted livey will catch fish if they are around. Kings of the rocks you need LIVE BAITS. Secondly go down their and watch these blokes fish for a while, ask a few questions, good luck

It all depends on what you are fishing for, and where you are fishing. You fish differently for kings than you would for Longtail tuna, different again for Cobia. Though anything can take anything at any time. You don't need balloons on Yakka's, they just are't strong enough to tow a ballon around and are at the mercy of the wind and the currents. I tend to use torpedo floats with all live baiting, minimizes drag on your bait and the predator does not feel the drag on the take and hopefully just engulfs it and takes of waiting for you to hit strike. Slimies will need a balloon attached to your float with an elastic band, rigged so as to break away with a decent run. Without the ballon the slimies tend to tow your topedo around and under the water and you won't see your float for a while. With leaders and lead, goes back to what you are trying to catch. Generally you don't need any lead when live baiting. The bait will always try to get down to the bottom where a predator won't see thier sillouette against the sky, that is until they are too tired or dead. Then just put a fresh one on. With the leader i guess around 80lb for kings and around 40 to 60lb for surface pelagics that don't tend to fight dirty.I forgot to mention, never tried using braid for LBG, never seen it used anywhere either, i think you really do need that stretch and bounce in the line. Has anyone got a gps mark for the salamander wreck inside the estuary. I have heard of the occassional good fish coming from this spot. It is supposed to be well known, but having fished up there of the rocks a fair bit, I have no idea. Will be up there Thursday night.

Scon, me and some mates do little bit LBG at this time of year. Long hours for nothing then one day it goes off and keeps you coming back for the next 10 years. I think we will hear of a big cobe caught by someone in the next few weeks from the harbour or heads. Hope its me!!!

plenty of good spots close to you at bondi mate. Try North and South ends of Bondi beach, Tamma or Bronte with worms for a feed of whiting at this time of year, with bream a regular by-catch. Fish really early and in the evenings, and bad weather leaves the beach to yourself. There is plenty of good rock spots close to you as well. McKensies point between tamma and bondi, you will see people there. Also Eastern ave at Dover heights for tailor and kings and bonito, but you are maybe 50 meters of the water. Or for something more sedate go down to Watsons and fish any of the sand meets rocks and weeds type spots between thier and south head.

The ledge is at Cape Banks, think they call it Jolong, Dodgy climb down in a corner crack. Pretty popular spot
