Thanks Boofhead.
Some advice please:
I also tackled the job last weekend, but on one side, when I removed the hub, the inner bearing disintegrated and fell out in pieces, and the inside half of the bearing is stuck fast to the axle. I tried to move it with hammer & chisel but it didn't move. Next used grinder to cut it at slight angle from perpendicular to axle, and tried again, this time only chipped a few pieces from the inner edge. Any advice how to remove the bloody thing?
Spoke to mechanic down the road today & he said to keep grinding & use hammer & chisel until it splits open.
Safety wise - I learned the hard way to wear safety glasses! When I hit bearing from behind the first time to try & knock it out, some bits flew out & hit me on chin & caused bleeding straight away - it cut badly. Luckily it didn't hit the eye, I still get chill down the spine thinking about it.
