  1. Like all tuna best not cooked. Bluefin beats anything hands down if treated properly.
  2. Amazing how over the years the small boats and motors have got better and everyone thinks the good fishing is out past the shelf because they can now reach that area fairly safely. You can still catch big fish in 60 to 100 Fathoms there are no fences out there. Always fish with the bait.
  3. Last week fished around Great Barrier Island NZ using soft plastics, live bait, poppers and jigs. Caught and released over 100 fish a day between six of us. Snapper to ten kegs and kings over Twenty kegs. Just goes to show how a fishery can be if its looked after.
  4. Nice work Damo I,ll be back east shortly with five weeks off hope get a few mid week trips in Regards Bob
  5. Hey Damo have you got the pic of both guys holding the big one horizontally? I think that is a better indication of its size maybe? Regards Bob.
  6. Thanks men for the info will have a go at it this week Regards Bob
  7. Hey Damo Tried to get the film on the go pro up the right way but to no avail. hope you can post your pics soon otherwise I have to turn my monitor upside down all the time. Fished back on Sunday with 25knot NEr Magic carpet ride. Love a following sea!! Regards Bob, PS regards to Mike

  9. has not set their status

  10. Fishing for reds off the hump off stanie we ran into a few inquisitive lethians as well. They stayed with us for an hour or so until we moved off so we could resume fishing. In fact we first learnt of their presence when i casted a lightly weighted bait intended for a snapper and as it sank must of went across one of their backs. Needless to say the drag wnt into over drive before the line was rubbed out. Biggest thing I've been attached to lately. Regards Bob.
  11. Mate cut a gill plate off rip out the guts fill it with ice, core out the top of the brain and run a flexible wire down the center of the backbone to stop the fish from cooking itself from the inside with heated nerve endings after the fight (breaks of all the nerve ending's). A bit like trying to stop the lactic acid building up. The main thing is to cool the fish and set the meat before cutting. That's how I've learn't to look after premo table tuna anyway. Regards Bob
  12. Thanx Winch, I reckon bluefiin has it all over yellow fin and albacore when shashimi. I guess thats why they farm them and the and their highly sought after by the Japanese.Regards Bob.
  13. Thanx mate didn't weigh him but I'd say 55 to 60 they are very round and solid. I'm 100 and 6ft 2tall so I make fish look a tad smaller in photo's. Regard Bob.
  14. Fished last Friday crappy conditions. Trolled from 70 fathoms and in two fifty ran in to four of these puppies in one strike. Kept this for the table the other still swimming. Great to see southern blue's in these latitudes once more. Although I don't reckon they go as hard as a good yellow fin. Regards Bob.
  15. looks like the work of a cookie cutter shark. Regards Bob.
  16. Here's some colour of a nice fin we got last season!
  17. Sure fishlexic, It was caught last season at the Bill fish shoot out at Port Stephens whilst fishing for blue marlin with large lures. These fish are often a good indicator of big blues around and I think the blues probably gobble them up from time to time. Was looking at some old photos and thought this would be a nice one to show. Regards Bob.
  18. Hows the colours of this shorty. (Just prior to release) Regards Bob
  19. Would have tagged it anyway had we had time to muck around but I had my daughters formal etc needed to get back before got home ya no wat i mean? Regards Bob
  20. Last wednesday went for a shark fish off Stanwell Park. Got one bait chomped but no hookup. Had to pull stumps early needed to be home at three for the kids. Decided to pull the lures for half a and run along through the burley trail. Got wacked by the under water blue missile on 24kg short rigger lumo. After he lit the after burners and did his best for a half kilometer sprint and with only a couple of hundred yards before ping time we started to chase the fish only two up. Got him to the boat on sunset with the fingers clamped round the spool in about fifty minutes. Trying to get him closer one last pump and the line broke on the double. Good fun apart from the seventy five dollars worth of terminal tackle. About 180 to 200 kgs ,thick and very healthy no birds no bait just beautiful blue looking water in 85 Fathoms. Great fun the best part of blue bites is the first run. regards Bob.
