  1. AWESOME - Just AWESOME ...... Jim, What time of day did you find the fish ? And did you leave them biting, or did it go quiet? Jeff
  2. depending on what model Ugly stik, but unlikely to be a good deal. Im looking at a Stradic 8000 from overseas and you can pick them up for around $200. Also 6000 model is pretty big. I would be looking at 4000 or 5000 for a 6-10kg rod.
  3. a couple of weeks ago I picked up 4-5 slimies off Chinamans Beach near the spit bridge in 20m of water. Again, sound them out. Balmoral is currently plagued with baby sweep. However there are smallish yakkas in amongst them.
  4. fishmaniac, We 3 were next to you in the other boat when you landed that monster. Awesome day and congrats on your PB. We ended up with 3 legals and lots of rats. Hopefully we can do this again next week. Cheers,
  5. Normally get my yakkas inside the harbour, then head out. There is a ramp near long reef, but its under repair atm, also, it a very hairy ramp to launch and retrieve from.
  6. Hey Dicko, My boat is a 4.8m fibreglass cuddy cabin with 70hp 2stroke. It goes well enough and I can comfortably cruise to longy at around 20knts on a calm day. So the trip takes about 30min. Yeah I have some coords as well so I try and visit a few on the way out, but normally when I get there I just cruiise around looking for reefs with fish activity. We should hook up for a joint attack on the kingies. Let me know next time you're out. Cheers man, Jeff Hey Kiro, Long time no hear. Yeah def need to do more yakking. Im actually thinking of yakking in middle harbour this Wednesday morning. If you can make it great, otherwise another time for sure.
  7. Quick report for Long Reef on Saturday. Picked up 10 livies (yakkas and slimies) from around Balmoral and headed out to Longy. Got there around 8am and was met with 10 other boats. We stayed a couple of hundred metres south of the group of boats and found a small school of activity on the sounder. We dropped the livies down and immediately had a big run. Wasn't expecting it so soon and didnt have the drag set, so I got reefed in 30 seconds. Next put down a whole squid and it too didnt last long. This time I was prepared and immediately put pressure on the fish, but still line was peeling off fast. kept increasing the drag on the 5000stradic and slowly gained some line back. This king was fat and probably the fatest kingie Ive caught. It went 75cm. Daleboy also landed a similar king shortly after, but he was using a fresh slimey strip on his little rod spooled with 15lb braid. We had to up anchor and chase this one down, as daleboy was losing more line. After 10-15 min we got him on board. All up we landed about 8-9 kingies but only 2 were legal. We also lost a few more. So all up a great day's kingie fishing. Conditions were fantastic out there.
  8. Good work Greg, I was the other boat slow trolling the same area and said gday. I didnt have the same success as Greg, but it was a superb day out on the water. I found it tough going without being able to find any live bait that day. Jeff
  9. Thanks for the report. Hope to get out tomorrow in the yak.
  10. We were out Friday arvo trolling the heads. Got a couple of hits but failed to hook up properly. Im guessing bonnies. Sambo schools came out late in the arvo, but as usual, fussy as anything.
  11. Went headed out to the Peak on Sunday morning. Only 1 other boat out there (charter boat) I think they landed something decent, but we had no luck jigging or trolling so headed back in for zilch.
  12. Still open as of last week. Pretty sure it was open on Friday too.
  13. Ah congrats on your success. You have every right to be excited. Good work mate.
  14. Southerly, Can you let me know where you got those slimies? A month or so ago I found them around CG. But havent seen them since. Cheers, Jeff
  15. Good onya Ali, Its great there's still people willing to share their knowledge. I am fairly new to Botany Bay so will def contact you for some tips. If you need a couple of tips for Sydney harbour, just PM me.
  16. NICE squid. Never seen a fluorescent squid before, but can you imagine working that at night for a jew? java script:emoticon('',%20'smid_12') I dont know if I would want to eat anything that glows ..... /Jeff
  17. Wow, 10 jigs lost. I would have given up after 2 jigs. thats gonna hurt the hip pocket. Good on you for persisting.
  18. Hi all, After using the advise from fellow raiders, we had a bucket of yakkas ready for the peak. The yakkas were caught at Moll Point. Hit the peak around 11am in a stiff easterly with a bit of chop on the water. Livies go down and we start jigging, and jigging and jigging until our arms are sore. No luck on the jig front, even though we see activity on the sounder. One on our mates lands a keeper kingie on the first drop of the yakka, but thats it for the next hour. We keep drifting over the peak and persist jigging whilst having the livies out, still nothing on the jig but we finally get some action on the livies and a couple of rats come on board. We give up jigging and start using slabs of fresh slimies and some salted slimies. The action picks up and the slimey baits are working. All up landed 8 kingies, but only 2 legal. Also a decent Morwong. Most caught on slimey baits, a couple on live yakkas and zip on the jig. Also saw others landing rat kingies and bonito. By around 2pm the wind died down and the conditions are fantastic. Off the water by 5pm. All in all a good days fishing. Sorry no pics. Next time. Will prob try long reef next time, after reading the reports from today Jeff
  19. Great effort there. If you could provide some further detail that would be great. I would like to try Longy as well. Today we hit the peak and managed 8 kingies, but only 2 were legal.....Still a good day for me.
  20. looks like a good day to hit outside. I'll be hitting the peak and maybe onto 12mile with a bucket of yakkas.....
  21. Thanks for your replies all, I will give these spots a try, I have plenty of burley so I guess if they are around I should find them. I know slimies are the bait of choice, but Im actually after yakkas as I dont have a good livie tank set up and yakkas do much better in a bucket. I normally keep a few slimies as slab baits though.... Im heading out to the peak tomorrow - hopefully with a bucket of livies ........ Any other raiders doing the same???? Cheers, Jeff
  22. Thx, Im not very familiar with the Bay. Is that the wharf next to the hot water outlet? where are the "sticks" exactly?
  23. Gday Raiders, Any advice for spots to try for a reliable source of livies around Botany Bay? Its been very hit and miss for me, unlike Sydney harbour. Thx, Jeff
  24. spongy

    Dory Time
