  1. Sadly like most waterways running through urban areas the Cooks is treated like a city drain; not as much as in the past but still a lot of things that should go elsewhere goes into it. I launch at Kyeemagh and on the runout tide the river can smell of sewerage. For many years now I gut all my fish offshore and scale them at home, I won't clean them in the Cooks. Actually eating fish from there I say probably won't kill you in small doses but is best avoided, C&R fishery only I say. Cheers Jiggy

    Engine Over Revs.

Hi Huey, Terrific thanks for the advice. Cheers Rob
  3. Hi Guys, Perfect weather, on holidays, on the water at the trag grounds off Coogee with what looks like kings on the sounder and the motor starts to play up. It had been running fine but when I went to move once I hit around 3000 revs the engine would start to over rev, it would jump up to 4500 or more then drop down and back up. Also I could feel that the prop wasn't biting, waterboiling at the back but not much forward movement. None of the engine warning lights came on so it wasn't overheating etc. It was fine at 2500 revs and I crawled back to the ramp at 7 knots, but anytime I tried 3000 revs or higher the same problem. Checked the motor out in case of bent props, fishing line or anything else wrapped around it and it was fine. Engine in a Johnson 115 and it had a major service in January. Any suggestions on what the problem could be? Cheers Jiggy

    Sea Sickness

I use the travelcalm original everytime I go out otherwise I'm sick as a dog. The trick I found is to take one tablet when you go to sleep and one tablet an hour or two before you head out. Take lots of water and drink regularly. Doing this I find that you don't dry out too much and your not too drowsy at all. Can be rough as and have I no problems with seasickness. My scurvy no good crew has a different cure altogether; cold ones on the way to the ramp. Three or four VB's before we launch and a few more while we are out keep him very chipper. Trouble is as soon as he runs out he wants to come back in! Cheers Jiggy
  5. Have a look at Bonzer Imports as Macka17 has mentioned. Depending on the conversion rate you should be able to get a Furuno GP7000F. Argueably the best combo on the market at the moment. Cheers Jiggy

  7. Hmm reminds me of an incident that happened to me a few years ago now; sometimes they don't show up as an arc. My Dad and I were fishing couple of miles north of Belambi, about 20 odd metres deep and on some gravel. I noticed a big smudge appearing on the sounder, a humminbird wide eye. I grabbed a rod to drop a jig down and mentioned to my Dad that we had a big school underneath us. He looks at the sounder and goes "No its not a school, but it's a big one." I look at the screen and on it was an almost perfect picture of a shark. You could make out it's lower jaw, all it's fins and tail; it was if someone had grabbed a pencil and drew it on while I wasn't looking. I looked over the stern and down deep was a huge shadow that disappeared. I decided that day that a 4.3 metre tri hull was just too small! About a year later trolling in roughly the same area I had another big smudge on the screen that I thought was a school until the sounder gave it a big sharky tail. I didn't stick around to see if we would get a hit! I never thought a sounder would give that sort of return image only arcs. To see it was very interesting, fascinating really, but not good on the underwear at all. Cheers Rob
  8. Hi Guys, I've been thinking about having my boat refurbished as she is looking a little drab. I'd like to get the carpet changed, the gelcoat is a bit faded so get that sorted plus a few other things done to it like installing a new sounder/gps. It's not something I'd want to tackle myself as I am pretty useless at this sort of thing. There are some boat detailers in the phone book that could do the job, but does anyone have any recommendations on one in Sydney? Cheers Rob
